Since being introduced to Sedaris's work in a college course, I have been an avid fan of his endeavors. If I had to rate "Me Talk Pretty One Day," I would have to say that this work is second in quality only to Sedaris's newest release, "When You Are Engulfed in Flames." From describing his hilariously dysfunctional upbringing in North Carolina to his difficulty in adapting to life in France, it is very hard to find a page where there isn't anything funny or painfully true to laugh at. This audio collection adds a new dimension to the work, and the narration by the author himself only enhances the humor it already contained in its textual form. However, I was somewhat disappointed when I finally received the cds in the mail. I had expected that this was an unabridged collection, and was saddened to see that some really funny pieces were omitted. In particular, the absences of "Big Boy" and "You Can't Kill the Rooster" were extremely hard to bear. In future, it would probably be a good idea if this website would properly specify whether or not the audio book is abridged or somehow altered. In Short: This is a great audio book to listen to while driving or doing housework, but don't expect to find all of your favorites included.
