I received the Mainstays Global Black & White Quit in exchange for an honest review. The multi block print design looked nice so I thought I would take a chance and try it, although finding out that it was 100% microfiber polyester I didn't have high expectations. (The only items I'm familiar with that are microfiber polyester are cleaning rags!) When the box arrived it was so light that again I wasn't optimistic. Well, I have to say polyester has come a long way!
It is very lightweight, but it gives a nice layer of warmth over my vellux winter blanket.
It also has a soft cool cotton feel like a Kantha quilt and is even channelled like a lot of them as well-(see photo) and it feels really nice when pulled up high around your neck on chilly nights.
Black edging goes around all four sides of the printed side and the back is solid black which looks nice folded down when making the bed. It overlaps my King bed by about 12” on either side (they list finished size as 104 x 90).
I particularly liked the details in the print that give it a broken-in vintage look. However, there may be a potential problem with that very thing. As I was trying to get a closeup picture to show the “aged look” I found a spot of fraying near an edge (see photo). This got me to thinking that maybe the black areas in the pattern where dye appears to be lifted -giving it a somewhat faded look- may be achieved by some sort of “stone-washing” like what is given to jeans and that may make the fabric more susceptible to this “fraying” that I discovered. So I decided to run it through the wash (cold water/gentle as advised) just to see if there were any more problems.
It washes well-the frayed spot was unchanged and still had same overlap on sides of bed, so no shrinkage, and came out of dryer (delicate temp.) looking great with virtually no wrinkling.
All in all, for the price and look, I still think its a great deal, (I'm buying two matching shams as soon as I'm through with this review!) although with constant use it may not hold up as well as other options.
