    Pleasantly surprised!
Contrary to the bunch of negative reviews I read, I found the chopper quick and effective. Reading the reviews were helpful in using it since Wall*Mart didn't provide an instruction sheet. Filled the cup only 1/2 full. I didn't push it down, I struck the plunger firmly 10 to 12 times and the onions were cut up nicely. Not as precisely as by hand, but much much quicker with fewer tears. The blade indexes each stroke. Took three cupfuls to dice one onion. Cut the celery stocks into lengths that fit loosely in the cup - 1/3 full. Struck the plunger 8 to 10 times and it worked fine on that too. Never made any mush some folks mentioned. Done, I filled cup with soapy water and hit the plunger 15 times to clean the blades. I also filled the food chopper full of water and drained and shook it. (not sure that was necessary or very helpful) There were still several thin food pieces stuck to the blades so I pushed the plunger down and twisted a little to the right to lock it down, then I got them off with a tooth pick. For $6+ I think it's a great deal!

    Do Not Purchase
I purchased this product as I transition into a plant based diet. I wanted this product to help save time chopping vegetables. It does not work. I could barely chop garlic. It does not chop onion, green peppers, or anything. It was a complete waste of money. I am writing this review hoping that other people researching this product will not buy it. Invest in another product capable of doing its job. Again, this product is horrible invest your money in something that works.

    Mainstays Food Chopper

I had lost the cover for the blade on my Papered Chef chopper and threw it away. I needed another chopper for Thanksgiving dinner preparations, so I actually purchased the Walmart Mainstays Food Chopper in desperation. I figured that I wouldn't be out much money ($6.00) if it wouldn't work; but to my surprise it works as well as my PC chopper and the blade cover was easy to remove and reassemble after cleaning. I purchased another chopper at a local kitchen store before I purchased the Walmart chopper and the blade cover was always a source of "frustration" to reassemble. I will recommend the chopper to others. Thank you for stocking a product that does work very well without being very expensive to the consumer.

    Perfect for chopping nuts

This is perfect for chopping nuts. Electric Choppers grinds thrm up to very small pieces, like crumbs. I bake a lot of zucchini bread, so I will be using this pretty often.

    Minimum essential

Bought this product for about $6 and it does a good job on onions and celery. No use or cleaning instructions with product. Durability may be an issue later on, but for $6 it is a good deal.

    Doesn't work

This unit has a design flaw, the provided cup is too short to allow the blade to rotate, which is necessary for chopping. Every time you push the handle the blades are supposed to rotate, you can see this if you operate it in the air, the blade goes past the end of the cup and rotates for chopping action. However, when you place this on the cutting board, the blade can't travel it's full length, due to short cup, and there is no chopping action, the blade merely goes up and down. I tried to chop manually by removing the cup and using my arms to chop and rotate, but then the tomato I was trying to chop got stuck in the blade and that didn't work either. Will return.

    Hard to believe...

I didn't save the wrapper because I thought how much could go wrong with a simple non electric chopper. Everything! I was amazed how much it didn't' work. The only t hing it chopped half-way decent was some cooked chicken and that wasn't too great. Wouldn't chop celery or carrots. I quit trying at that point and I'm bringing it back even without the wrapper. Wish I would have read reviews first, but I didn't think there would be any on an item this small and inexpensive. Oh well. I will bring it back and keep looking for a different one.

    Does not work

It doesn't come with any instructions- but it's pretty self explanatory. However, it just does not work. Cucumbers are turned into mush. It doesn't cut through the peel on green peppers. When I cut the peel off, the peppers just turned into mush. Chunks get caught in the blade, so they don't even get "chopped". I will not be using this item again.

    Masher

I got this as part of my mother's day gift and tried cilantro which it did not cut through just left indentations also it wouldn't be ideal anyways since it doesn't have a rotating blade. Also tried cherry tomatoes and it mashed them but didn't actually chop them.

    Horrible Chopper

Waste of my money! I could not get an onion to chop at all, just coudln't get anything to chop! Doesn't come with instructions or anything. The Blade is made very poorly. I threw it in the garbage.

    1. The blades move in and up and down motion and there is no spinning. Everything you do is manual. And this product does not work.
