Bought this umbrella for our little fishing dock....i think it was on sale... I built a cement pad just off the corner of the dock, set the umbrella stand on top to the not-yet -dry cement and put 6 inch lag bolts in each hole on the stand and tapped into the wet cement... once the cement dried--- the stand was rock solid solid... (i used 6 bags of 60lbs ready mix)... My only disappointment , it would have been nice if the Umbrella could swivel around on the stand (future design???)...other than that , I,m happy (not my Back) and it looks great and gives good shade....

The second time we cranked this open, the string became extremely taut, and seemed like it would break. You can hear it make a 'thunk!' noise as it gets tight. It is almost impossible to crank it with one hand, that's how tight it is. It must be a defect, as I've had crank umbrellas that NEVER did this before! The tilt design is awkward - if you think it will easily tilt to give you shade, it will not - you have a 50-50 chance of creating the shade desired. As a plain umbrella, it's okay -- unless you get one with a messed up cranking/line mechanism, as we did. I would not recommend this product.

Bought two of these and they are a great buy. Be ready to buy some large 2'x2' patio paver stones to mount for the base unless you buy the optional water filled base. I had to tighten some loose screws in the support structure as well. The quality is not top of the line but what do you expect for $79. Once I had them setup, they look and perform great.

The cord that operates the pulley system to raise and lower the umbrella broke on first usage. Needs a stronger cord!

We purchased this umbrella for our backyard in AZ. The photo that Walmart shows is not the correct bottom for the piece. The bottom that it comes with needs to have approx 6-8 screws bolted into the ground to keep the umbrella from blowing over. The umbrella itself is a good quality and large, but, the bottom portion is not very stable.

  • A. Yes, this umbrella does have four tilt positions, but it only tilts in the oblong position; the umbrella is not square, so it is difficult to have it positioned near a wall (like the house).

  • A. As per assembly instructions, it is supposed to tilt in three (3) different angles. If you've noticed, there are three holes on the pole. - the high, medium, and low tilt. Once you've determined the angle you want, just insert the piece of metal attached to a chain into the hole on the pole (above the pull ring). The assembly instructions have pictures/sketches, so it's better to refer to it.

  • A. It tilts, but it is weird - you have to lower it, then crank it, and it raises one side. It is awkward to get the angle you may desire. Ours has such a tight, taut line, that we are afraid the line is going to break, and render it useless. The line is already frayed, after just 4 times raising and lowering it. I don't recommend this umbrella.

  • A. Walmart.com does offer a water/sand fill base also (It was $50. on sale); but we didn't get one, we just put heavy concrete blocks on the "feet" and it works fine, but it did take several of them to get to 150 lbs.

  • A. It comes with large crossed bars to act as "feet" but they need to be supplemented with 150 lbs of weight. We used large concrete blocks on top of the feet, but you can purchase something more attractive made for that purpose.

  • A. No, but it comes with 40"x40" cross-beam base supports that can be tap-con into patio stones. Have to buy the patio stones separately. Need about 150 lbs of weight in the base to support properly.

  • A. The only base this comes with is the one you see in the picture which is not really a base at all. This cannot stand on it's own without falling over since it's very top heavy. I bought this same one last year and had to drill concrete screws thru the holes in the "base" in order for it to stay in place on my patio. I've read other reviews for similar umbrellas where people have tied (very securely) to deck railing...can't vouch for that method though. You definitely need to either place something very heavy on top of the metal base (which as you can see in the picture, is just 4 bars extending from the bottom pole) or secure it in place with heavy duty bolts. Since the pole does rotate in the base, you can change the direction of the umbrella without having to remove it from the base. Since mine is bolted into concrete, for the winter, I just took off the top portion and left the base (which sits about 3 feet or so high) in place. I found that you do need to secure all 4 legs on the base into the ground (a very high wind pulled it from the concrete with only two bolts installed, although that was my fault for leaving it open one stormy day). It's a great umbrella if you can deal with leaving it in one place securely.
