Loved the book! I like that the book can be a Bible Study for a person or a group. Katie writes like she is talking to you from across the table you are at. God winked at me through the whole book but especially slapped me over the head when Katie talked about Martha needing rest. I am so glad to find this book. I have alwaya heard negative comments about Martha and being a doer myself, I thought I was made wrong because I wasn't like Mary. This book has helped me embrace who I am and and helped me let go of some shame.

About This Item
Are you a Martha who feels guilty for not being a Mary? Do you want to sit at Jesus’s feet as Mary did—but you feel the need to get things done? In Made Like Martha, Katie M. Reid invites you to exchange try-hard striving for hope-filled freedom without abandoning your doer’s heart in the process.
Through her own story and rich biblical illustrations, Katie reminds you that it’s not important whether you sit and listen or stand and work. What matters is that your spiritual posture is one of a beloved daughter who knows she doesn’t need to earn God’s love. Your desire to get things done is not something to temper but something to embrace as you serve from a place of strength and peace—knowing Christ already did His most important work for you on the cross.
With “It Is Finished” activities at the end of each chapter and a fiveweek Bible study included, Made Like Martha helps you find rest from striving even as you celebrate your God-given design to “do.”
“ Made Like Martha will infuse your life with a fresh perspective as you learn both to embrace your God-given personality and also discover how—and when—to rest and retreat.” —Karen Ehman, Proverbs 31 Ministries speaker and New York Times bestselling author of Keep It Shut

Be who God made you!
A great book for the Do-ers.
Will I benefit from this book if I'm not 100% Martha? Yes! I'm more of a Mary, but I very much have Martha tendencies. This book helped me see there are situations when I try hard to earn approval or want all the good-girl checkmarks and times when I lean more Martha. Made Like Martha helps the Martha in us breathe easier. Katie unpacks how to work with the personality and tendencies God has placed in us and how to grab hold of God's grace rather than working for our worth. The book is chock full of practical helps and examples as well as a Bible study. Along with the Bible study, this book would make a great book club read. This is one I'll be recommending to my Modern Day Martha friends and even Modern Day Marys who can go into Martha-mode at certain triggers.
No more competition. God loves me for me.
The first reason I pre-ordered this book is because I met the author, Katie Reid in person. I loved her heart from the first conversation. The book is like sitting down with her and having a heart to heart talk about how we, as women, project so much responsibility on ourselves and feel pressure to be more and do more. Through scripture, Katie confirms that we often set standards that we can't achieve in our human capacity. Made Like Martha describes our tendency to think we don't measure up to be daughters of the King of Kings so we take on more of a slave mentality. Jesus doesn't expect perfection from us. He doesn't expect us to be anyone else besides who God created us to be. Jesus loves us for who we are, he asks us to love him back with full devotion to him. At the end of each chapter there are applications to help you practice what you learned. These can be just for your insights, or they can be for a group study. However, this book is written for individual study, but is even more inspirational when shared in group study. The chapters are recapped at the end of the book with questions for deeper learning through discussion with other women. By reading this book together and digging into the scriptures, women will come to love Jesus more and understand God's word better.
You Don't Have to Change Who You Are!
First and foremost, this book is an invitation not to stop striving, but to do it for the right reasons. Katie has written an honest, gut-check type book that not only makes you examine your heart for the work you do, but for the reasons you might be trying too hard. How can we each both be a Mary and a Martha? Which is the better woman to follow after? Doesn't Jesus still love them, regardless? As a lifelong type A "Martha," I have always felt convicted if I didn't feel like I should stop and release all the items on my "to do" list. Doesn't Scripture say that Mary "chose the best thing" by ignoring all the "many things" waiting to be done, while Martha felt she had to keep on going? Katie calls our striving what it CAN be--the good stuff--then opens our eyes to the parts that could use a little work. She does this in a way that is both supportive and encouraging, being she is a Martha herself. I could identify with how she felt she was being lazy or disobedient to who God created her to be by just stopping all the flurry of daily life. It's difficult for a hard worker to place everything on hold without thinking of the end results. The good news is that all this striving and goal seeking is not what's necessary to have the love of God! We're His chosen daughters. We don't have to live or work as if our value depends on it. He has already paid our cost and made us enough. He loves us just as we are, whether we relish in enjoying the present, calm moment, or enjoy the work associated with goal setting and changing our communities. I felt like someone who has been where I am was sharing her thoughts with me over coffee. It's a relief to know I am not the only one who finds encouragement in meeting a goal or dreaming a new dream--even if that dream might have a lot of work attached to it. There is also a Bible study in the back of the book and additional resources available online that you can print out from her website, which I loved having access to. This book is perfect for those who think that being a go-getter means that we must continue trying to meet new goals in order for God to accept us. If we just did this better, or just worked harder....these are all mindsets "Made Like Martha" will challenge and, prayerfully, change. Wonderful read and I will share it with my other hardworking sisters who need support! *I received an advanced reader copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own and I was not required to leave a positive review.*
Made Like Martha is a Must Read!
Katie Reid has written the book I didn't know I desperately needed to read and embrace. But the Lord knew. “Made Like Martha” encapsulated how I was feeling without knowing I felt that way. Katie's vulnerability and honesty spoke to my weary Martha soul. All my striving, trying to be more, and not embracing who God designed me to be awoke to Katie's beautifully written truths. “Made Like Martha” is about believing we are enough and embracing who the Lord created us to be. We don't need to “do” or “not to do”, we don't need to strive, we just need to believe and live out “being” His beloved daughter. Nothing will ever change our place in Heaven or His eternal love for us. “Made Like Martha” is rich in faith, biblical stories and truths, relatable modern-day stories, action steps, and thought-provoking questions. Katie is genuine, honest, and soul-baring as she walks you through her story. She writes with passion, “I get you”, and a faith-filled spirit. Katie breaks down the walls of feeling like being “Martha” is somehow bad. She shares, “But God says, I have designed both Mary's and Martha's and I love them both.” I love that Katie has sprinkled her great sense of humor in the telling of some of her life stories. Katie tenderly peeled away the layers and reveals the heart of Martha, the other side of her story, and God's vast love for her doer soul. She broke down the barriers I felt trapped behind and opened the door to a radiant light that I had allowed to become dim. I, too, had forgotten how to be a daughter to the Lord. I was so caught up in the “doing” I forgot how to just “be”; to be in His Presence, to be His beloved daughter, to be who He created me to be, and that I am eternally loved, no matter what, just as I am, in my God designed Martha-ness. I absolutely loved “Made Like Martha” by Katie Reid! It is a book that I will be rereading again and again. Warning, have your highlighters and journal ready! I don't think there was a page I didn't highlight! This book has been such an eye-opening blessing to me! Thank you, Katie Reid, for writing such a life-altering book! I can't wait for your next one!
