This laptop works great! First time gaming on a laptop and not sure how I was gonna like it. Runs very smooth for all games I have used it for and have had no performance issues. Mainly league of legends. Have had no issues or complaints. Use this laptop over my high powered desktop. Would recommend.

Great Gaming Laptop
Desktop Power in a Portable Frame
The MSI GL63 8RE-639 is a true workhorse laptop; it's power and speed are optimal for gaming and heavy tasks, and it's screen quality and portability are ideal for everyday browsing and study sessions at the coffee shop.
It's spec list is impressive. The machine boasts an i7-8750H from Intel's Coffee Lake processor family. With 6 cores, a 2.2 GHz clock rate (and a 4.1 GHz max turbo clock rate), the processor eases through any intensives tasks that I've thrown at it. The GPU is equally capable: the machine rocks a NVIDIA GeForce GTX1060. The Pascal-powered graphics card plays games buttery smooth: the world of Forza Horizon 4 looked picturesque as I slammed my vehicle into a tree at 110 mph. The laptop's screen is the ideal compliment to its powerful GPU. The machine has an onboard 15.6 inch FHD screen (resolution of 1920x1080) that plays well with the GPU, but that also enables the laptop to maintain a portable form factor. The laptop's entire frame is measured at 15.07"x10.23"x1.16" and weighs in at a light 4.8 lbs, lending itself well to portability, and avoiding much of the bulkiness of other gaming laptops. How the designers were able to cram in the aforementioned specs, 16GB of RAM, a 256 GB SSD and a 1 TB platter hard drive, Bluetooth support, a SD card reader, a 720p HD webcam, USB 3.1 ports, a USB C port, quality speakers, and a Tron-esque keyboard backlight, I don't know. I do know that the finished product is a powerful machine that handles anything from gaming and VR to spreadsheets and netflix with ease. I am writing this review as part of a contest. That being said, the power, performance, and impressive spec sheet of this machine mean the laptop is absolutely deserving of the 5 star rating.
Money well spent
It comes with everything you need to start gaming on the go. I got a desktop last year and got a laptop this year. The laptop out performance the desktop out of the waters. Gl63 8RE 639 Review
So before Christmas I purchased the HP Pavilion gaming laptop 15, with 8gb ram, 1050 ti 4gb Vram. However it was a decent laptop I wouldn't recommend that at all. I returned it due to not being even able to play "The Division" at 60 fps which is like a 4 year old game. So I decided to just look around and decide on a laptop I could keep for a while, since I know that laptops can not compare to desktops because of the upgrades that you can do. I am a casual gamer. So I finally saw a review on linustechtips for the OVERPOWERED laptop which is out of stock on Walmart. But however regardless of that laptop which would need dual channel ram and a brand i've never heard of before I would be taking my chances. MSI Micro-Star International has been a top seller and leader and a well known brand. So I decided to purchase this BEAST of a laptop. Yes I said BEAST. Its amazing it does everything great. Some people say it can get hot but honestly I have not ran into that issue, plus dragon center is a plus that will help with over clocking and also cooling. If I ever run into a heating issue MSI laptop has a button that will max your fan instantly which is awesome. I like the fact that intel is giving away Black Ops 4 with this but honestly I wish there was little more options I don't think it MSI who controls that, but I wanted to add that in the review. The SSD drive is super fast, i've never owned a ssd and i'll tell you that this thing boots up in 10 secs or less. Also it boots up my games super fast big difference than a normal HDD. It comes with the 256 Gb SSD which is enough by all means and a 1 TB HDD that is just extra space that will be useful down the road. The keyboard is good and types fine and plays games just fine fast responsive time. The touchpad is very nice especially having the buttons. Overall this laptop will be your go to gaming device until you upgrade that desktop, even then the laptop is a beast and will be a great gaming device for your travels. Another plus is every so couple of months you take a short survey and it will extend your warranty that is a big deal breaker and amazing that a company would do that. However Msi does giveaways for writing reviews on there products. My review is genuine and legit regardless if I win a gift from them or not. This laptop was on rollback/ sale for $1,088.99 when I purchased it and I used a couple of my Walmart giftcards to substract the taxes so all in all this is a steal of laptop. A lot of bang for your buck
First off I love the design. It is a really good looking computer with awesome red accents. The computer can handle a lot and isn't entirely too noisy either. My only gripe about it is that the keyboard takes some getting used. 5/5. I would recommend this computer to anyone starting out in PC gaming.
First gaming/rendering/design laptop!
So far everything has been great about this computer. My video rendering times have been much faster than my previous Macbook (9:36 min/sec vs 1:34 min/sec) on a 8 minute video file. I've only played a couple light 3D games but handled those well. The SSD and RAM seem very quick. The only issues have been with Windows but that's not MSI's fault. I thought the computer would get hotter than it has but usually around 49c/41c for cpu and gpu with Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, and many more apps open. The screen is adequate but not amazing. My Macbook had a better screen but was a lot slower. There are tradeoffs. I heard about the "awful" screen on this but was expecting MUCH worse. If you want perfect, spend more money. I use an external monitor so it really doesn't affect me. The only real downside so far is not enough USB ports. But that's really on me since I have a wireless keyboard and mouse each with a USB receiver. But a simple USB hub will solve that.
1060 gtx worth it
Ordered online and picked up in stores a couple days later. Very fast computer and handles multiple applications open very well. The Dragon Center is very helpful and lets you take control over your computer. Registering computer was easy and was playing the free Black Ops 4 about 2 hours after getting laptop. Runs at all max settings and looks great. The 60 fps monitor is ok for the games, but I've hooked up to a larger monitor and works great.
Perfect Laptop NOT so Perfect Screen.
Very powerful laptop that can handle almost anything you throw at it. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is the screen its very terrible. If your looking at the screen at a certain angle the color and picture will look different like night and day. If you dont mind paying close to $1000 for a powerful laptop with a NOT so good sreen then this is the choice for you. I returned mine and got an HP Omen with a better screen and exactly the same hardware specs for about $100 more.
GL73's little brother, but still packs a punch!
I've been a PC gamer all my life, and have built my own PCs, as well as gamed on laptops. Boy have times changed and laptops are as powerful as desktops now and this GL63 is a great example.
Start out with the features:
- Great 15.6 inch screen
- VR Ready (just pickup a VR set like the Acer or something.
- Windows 10 64bit
- GIANT Speakers w/ Nahimic sound for that 7.1 surround sound when you plug in your headset
- 3 USB 3.1 ports, 1 3.1 Type C, 1 HDMI, mDP, line in and out, oh and an SD Card slot (thank you MSI!)
- Backlit red keyboard, (because who doesn't like backlit keyboards?)
- 1TB HDD + 256 SSD (more than enough for editing your montages)
- Gen 8 intel i7-8750H (6 cores and up to 4.1 ghz)
- 16gb RAM DDR4-2666
- Nvidia GTX 1060
This laptop is not the highest end possible, but it should be more than enough to tackle most games you throw at it, and will probably run any game on high settings above 60 fps with most games running comfortably around 100-200fps on this.
The cooling really needs to be addressed here...There were dozens of people trying out this laptop under a decent load, and it still stayed cool, you could feel MSI's "Cooler Boost" actually working, which contains 4 exhausts, 7 heat pipes, and 31 fan blades...resulting in 20% better airflow.
Lastly, what a lot of people overlook is MSI's unique warranty....I think they're the only PC brand I can think of that offers a 1 year warranty WITH 1 time ACCIDENTAL, you'd just need to register as soon as you buy it!
For $1,349 what else would you want?

Worst laptop experience
I bought this laptop on Thanksgiving and my experience with it was a nightmare. The first piece was a defective piece which was not worth the trouble I went through to correct it thinking it was a software issue. Customer service from MSI was not good and had to buy recovery usb to try and fix the issue. Troubles I face with it were 1. It would crash with BSoD atleast 4 times a week. 2. If I leave it on standby and camback home after a workday, screen would not turn on and needed to force shutdown to get it working again. 3. After using the recovery USB to reinstall windows, it was not really that much different from a brick. Could barely use for 15 minutes before it would hang up for 30 min. I returned the laptop for a replacement thinking I was just unlucky to get a defective piece. The second one was not as bad as the first one, I no longer faced issues 1 and 3. Issue 2 would occur once a week without fail. Even though it was not as annoying, it is still a problem as I would have to use this laptop to run my test projects and the prospect of losing unsaved work is never good. I have my 5 year old Dell laptop still and it never caused any problems. Going to buy dell agin. Adios MSI.
