this product meets my expectation

I would recommend this lodge iron skillet to my friends. It is as good as I needed it to be. But just be careful grabbing it. You will need mitten.

GREAT quality American made!!

I have been searching for a nice cast iron skillet. I should have known Hayneedle would have it! I purchased the 12 in skillet and absolutely LOVE it! The quality is superior and I was especially impressed that the manufacturer has been in business since 1897. I really like the pre seasoned finish. It's so easy to clean too. The assist handle is a great idea since it's heavier being cast iron. The skillet does not come with a lid, however glass lids are available. I bought the 12 in lid and am so pleased that I did. It makes a perfect set! As always, my purchase arrive quickly and was packaged really well. Thanks again, I'm a happy customer!

My favorite pan EVER!

I hesitated buying this because I'm am disabled and thought it would be too heavy but the extra handle takes care of that. I also have a glass top stove and people have said not to use cast iron and I disagree. It's fine as long as you don't move the pan around more than necessary. When I first got it I coated it with coconut oil (any oil will work) and let it sit for a few days. I then used a paper towel to remove any excess oil. My first dish was fried potatoes and onions and yes, some of the potato stuck to the pan but I turned the heat off, covered the pan and the moisture from the steam released the stuck potatoes after about 15 minutes and the potatoes were still nice and hot. Learn to use cast iron and you will forever love it like no other pan and I've had my share. I never use soap, I just let it soak and wash it with a soft cloth. Much healthier than non-stick pans and cook better than stainless steel. I use low heat and I now pan bake foods like cauliflower and Brussels sprouts. Good eatin' for sure!

A must have for steaks!

This cast iron skillet can take high heat to sear steaks and then withstand 500 degree oven heat to finish cooking them. Also this skillet is great for cooking frittatas. It came seasoned but I did another seasoning by rubbing it with a thin film of vegetable shortening. Then bake in oven at 350 degrees for an hour. After seasoning, no matter how bad the mess, this skillet is easy to clean. As a suggestion to clean, while skillet is still warm, drop in about 1 tablespoon of salt. Using wadded up paper towels, scrub (tongs help if you have them) inside skillet to clean. Dump out cleanings and excess salt. I then rinse in with warm or hot clean water to wash out any residual matter. Then wipe out. To ensure no moisture is left, I then place skillet on a medium heat for a minute or so to burn off any remaining moisture. I store my cast iron stuff in the oven and leave them in there when baking or roasting other foods. Cast iron ware is superb!

Love this pan!

I love this skillet because it makes whatever I cook in it taste so wonderful plus I also own the 12 inch for larger amounts. I always order pre-seasoned skillets and then season them again to ensure that food will not stick and it never has. You cannot go wrong ordering these. When I season them, I simply turn the oven to 350, put Crisco inside and all over the outside, including the handle, turn it upside down on a baking sheet and put it in the oven for 1-2 hours. Let it cool and wipe out any extra shortening, and put it away, ready for anything I want to make in it. Also, I never use soap, I simply add hot water to the skillet after I've used it ad give it a good scrub with a natural bristle brush, dry it well, put it back on the stove with a little oil, rub it on the inside and let it sit on the hot flame/burner for about10 minutes....turn it off and let it cool. Then, I just put it away ready for anything!

Well made

I received this cast iron skillet for Christmas. I had previously purchased a small 6 inch one just to see if I was going to like cooking with Iron. I loved it. It cooks meat so much nicer than a non-stick skillet that has the coating that scratches off. Cast iron of course is heavy and it gets hot, so you must always remember to use a towel, pot holder or a silicon handle wrap. I am very pleased with this skillet and although it says that is seasoned, it really needs to be done again. To do this, I just rubbed the skillet lightly with olive oil, wiped off the excess and turned it upside down in a 300 degree oven and let it bake for about 45 minutes. I just let it cool in the oven. Took it out, rinsed it off and it was good to go. After seasoning it myself, I can cook the dreaded eggs in it with no sticking whatsoever. Great skillet. I want more!

EXCELLENT

I was so happy to get this, my current cast iron set has wood handles... and I can use them in the oven but it darkens the wood. this however has the cast iron handle, all one piece and easily goes in the oven. The size across and depth is perfect. the depth actually surprised me a little because I expected it to be a little shorter. the best part was the pre-seasoning. Now I know some people have purchased pre seasoned cast iron ware and have noticed a dark dust on the item. Carbonization people. Carbonization. Pre seasoning keeps your cast iron ware non stick. its done with oil and after being packed so long, oil will carbonize. This is why it should be washed with mild soapy water, DONT scrub, and rinsed well BEFORE using. As a matter fact, any kitchen ware that'll hold food should be washed before using (and I know not everyone does!) - anyway sorry for the sidetrack. This is a GREAT product. Lodge did good!

You can't go wrong with this skillet!

Bought this for a couple of reasons, first, it was inexpensive, but more importantly, I had a recipe for corn bread that stated to bake in a 10" cast iron skillet. I have several, but they're all buttoned up in the camper, sealed for winter storage. The price was right, so I got this. I can't say I'm the least bit sorry, one little additional seasoning, (Crisco around the pan's inside, in the oven at 350 for an hour and a half), and the cornbread came out without the least bit sticking. This pan is not only way better than teflon, or whatever the "non-stick du jour" is, it will last forever! I love cast Iron cookware, and this one is a great, well known, and seasoned name, and a quality buy. Thanks Wal Mart for having these out for sale.
Perfect size for up to three people. More people than that get the 12". Single person a 9" will meet your needs. Seasoning method: New skillet: wash and dry completely. Cover bottom of oven with aluminum foil. Remove all but the center rack. Place skillet in oven and preheat to 200 degrees. Remove after 5 minutes and liberally coat all surfaces of skillet with crisco. Wipe off excess leaving a THIN coat of oil. Back in oven at 300 degrees for 15 minutes. remove and wipe off excess oil. Return to oven at 400 degrees for two hours. Do this procedure three or four times. After cooking, allow to cool, wash with water only. Hard stuck food can be removed by scraping (lodge scraping tool work well) boiling water in skillet on range. Set skillet on range at medium heat. After it warms coat inside of skillet with crisco. Then wipe off excess. Turn up heat to high until you see wisps of smoke coming off skillet. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
Pan is well made, love the 2nd handle for taking this pan out of the oven. Cooks great whether on top of stove or in the oven. Perfect size. This is a great deal, $10 less than anywhere else, same pan, same name brand, and free ship to store. Don't hesitate
