I just got into braising after I took a braising cooking class. Well, I learned that the best of the best of course is the La Creuset braising pots. Well, it turns out after doing some research that the Lodge Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven does the same thing..and...and..it looks the same. It may be a little heavier..but it's worth it. I've braised and stewed in it already and if you deglaze the pot, you shouldn't have too much staining...my pot just started to stain, just a little bit..but that's ok. The food will stick and fond will end up on the bottom..but that's why you deglaze the pot..plus..you end up getting a great sauce. Hands down..if you aren't willing to pay 350 bucks for a La Creuset..then get the next best thing for about 50 bucks...great deal.

Quality Dutch Oven
The Lodge Dutch Oven would add to the décor of any kitchen. I purchased the blue Dutch Oven, which was just as pictured. It is absolutely beautiful. I plan to leave this out as it adds such beauty to my kitchen. However, I requested additional "rubber bumpers" to prevent the item from being damaged when it is necessary to store the product. I received the requested bumpers immediately from Lodge's Customer Service (EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE). I would highly recommend the purchasing of any Lodge products based on the quality of their products as well as their Customer Service! I feel you will not be disappointed and plan to buy more of their products myself.
Just what I wanted, great product
I have many Lodge cast iron skillets and pots. Because I make a lot of caramel, I wanted an enameled pot for even heat distribution and consistency in cooking, as well as one that would not transfer flavors to other dishes. Now that I've made several batches of caramel, I am so pleased with this Dutch oven. It's beautiful, well-made and although Lodge's enameled cookware is not made in the US, the rest of their products are. This is exactly what I had hoped for.
Exactly what I'd hoped for and the price is amazing! I needed a dutch oven that, with the lid, was good to 500 degrees. Most I found that met that criteria were over $200 and many in the $300 range. It's heavy (as it should be) and well made. It was shipped to my home and there was no damage. It came packed with plastic or nylon clips that prevented the lid from rubbing on the bottom. I love them for storing it at home!! I'm thrilled with my purchase and would recommend it to others.
Not what I expected
After the first use the enamel changed its color to pink-brownish. When I contacted the company, I was told that some foods can stain the enamel and I should use backing powder or even bleach to make it white again. But my other pot from a different company didn't change its color. It makes me think that the coating is either very thin or the quality overall is poor. I used backing powder, it didn't help.
Not Worth the Low-Cost
I ordered this Lodge 4.5 quart dutch oven through Walmart because they offered a much lower price than anywhere else. Big mistake. The first one came with a sizeable chip along the rim where the enamel meets the cast iron. I re-ordered the item and the second one came with a chip on the lid and several defects in the cast iron that the manufacturer tried to cover up with enamel. I have other dutch ovens made by Lodge that are in perfect condition, so I'm well aware of the difference. These dutch ovens from Walmart are, obviously, factory seconds - thus the cheap pricing. Needless to say, I returned the second one and will not try again.
