Great product, great color!

My friend recommended this over the expensive brand (starts with a LeC). She owns both and says the Lodge is the one! Check out this photo of this really great bread I made using it.

Cast Iron Dutch Oven

Beautiful enameled cast iron dutch oven. Excellent quality for the money. Cooking a big pot of pinto beans right now..low and slow. The other day I cooked a pot roast and the meat was very tender and juicy. Looking forward to cooking a pot of chili when the weather gets colder. You will not be disappointed if you buy this Lodge product.

love it

meant to buy a dutch oven for the longest and can't wait to use it very often now with the weather getting perfect for stews, roasts and such

Lodge Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Ovens

The 6 qt. Lodge dutch oven is the 4th piece I have purchased at Walmart. There is absolutely no doubt that I love cooking with these pieces! I have used them on the stove top and in the oven both. The food comes out delicious and is evenly heated throughout whatever is being cooked because the entire pot retains the heat not just like your basic stainless steel pan that only heats up the bottom of the pan. Theses pieces are very classy looking sitting on top of the stove top and very easy clean up! I don't put them in the dishwasher, just a quick cleaning with soap and water and brand new again. Last week I cooked a turkey breast & just the look of it when ready to eat was so appealing that we looked at it in awh for a bit. Needless to say it was the best turkey breast we had ever eaten! My next purchase will be the 7.8 dutch oven size once I find a good price. The only draw back is that these dutch ovens get hot completely so you need to keep that in mind and pot holders close by.

Happy with purchase

I purchased the blue 6 qt Dutch oven. I started to go larger but read reviews that 6 qt is fine & it is for me as well. The inside of the lid does not have rings or bubbles if that is important to you. I purchased Lodge because the price seemed more reasonable than some other brands. I own a Lodge cast iron that I have used for camping but wanted enamel coated for other types of cooking where I don't have to be concerned about the flavor of the food changing due to the cast iron. My first dish to make was chicken & sausage gumbo. It was smooth cooking. I was happily surprised at the difference between cooking in my new Dutch oven compared to cooking in a stock pot or pan. The oven maintained the heat evenly and constantly. I only cooked on low & med low heat as that is all it takes to bring to a boil. I cook with gas. I will take very good care of this dish as I now consider it one of my favorites. Now I am wanting to trade in some of my frying pans for enameled cast iron. It is a great way to cook and clean up was easy.

Big pot, low bucks

I had been looking at LeCrusset (sp?) pots for several years, wishing I could afford one. The prices on those things are ridiculous! Then I saw that Lodge was making the same type of product and was charging less than half the price for it. I looked at the pot at my local Walmart and was very impressed. It has the same heft as the other brand, it has beautiful exterior colors to chose from and the white enamel looks just as good on the inside. I made a big batch of onion soup for my first recipe in the pot. I sauteed onions, lowerd the heat and caramelized them, added liquids, etc and the pot worked perfectly for everything. I never had to turn the heat above medium because the mass of the pot holds heat really well. This was the best batch of onion soup I ever made. How much was due to the pot, I'm not sure but I have to give it at least partial credit. Cleanup was pretty easy, but it's not a non-stick pot so don't expect it to behave like one. I would DEFINITELY recommed the Lodge enameled cast iron cookware. I'll be buying a smaller sized pot later and it will be the same brand, for sure.

Awesome Product!

I have been wanting a Dutch Oven for such a long time. My husband gave me the option to purchase one as an early Christmas present right after Thanksgiving. I read a lot of reviews and though I know there are several "higher end" and more expensive choices, I decided on the Lodge Color Enamel 6-Qt Cast Iron Dutch Oven in Brown. I have NOT been disappointed at ALL. We had ordered ship to store and picked it up and reviewed it there in the store to make sure there were no issues with the product before we took it home. I cooked a delicious roast with a wine, mushroom and onion gravy and it cooked perfectly! I have since used this a number of times each with fantastic results. I am SO happy with my Lodge Dutch Oven! I recommend to anyone who purchases this or any other enamel product, Do NOT wash it in the dishwasher no matter what the instructions say. I wash mine by hand. Remember it says chip resistant not chip proof. A little extra care goes a long way.

Great quality and value for this 6 Qt. Dutch Oven.

I had to replace all of my pots and pans because we purchase an Induction Cooktop. I did a great deal of research on-line and in-stores before I made my purchases. I found that the Lodge Enameled Cast Iron cookware had extremely high ratings and were much more econmically priced than other manufacturerers. Walmart On-line had the best priced Lodge products of all. This was the first time that I have ordered from the Walmart Site. I ordered 3 Lodge Cast Iron Enameled Pots and skillets plus one cast iron chicken fryer. In that we were moving to our new condo and 10 days, I needed the items quickly in order to cook at home. The Walmart Site was easy, the emailed estimated time of arrival helpful, and best of all, each item arrived ON TIME! This 6 Qt. Dutch oven is great! Having just received it, I have only used it once for a large pot of Spaghetti Sauce. It did a great, quick job of browning the ground turkey and pork sausage, simmering the sauce, keeping the sauce warm for serving, and keeping the leftovers in the refrigerator. Only down side is that it is heavy. I am very happy that I chose this item.

Excellent quality and value

This is a high-quality product that you normally would not find in a store that only advertises low prices. I fully expected to get a lightweight version that would work OK. I am happy to report that this Lodge Dutch Oven is heavy-duty and has the same wall thickness and base found in other units that cost several hundred dollars for this same size. I especially like the steep side walls that provide a larger flat cooking area on the bottom. Buy this with confidence. It was also a favorite pick by American Test Kitchen in one of their 2007 magazines.

Hairline Crack

I purchased the 6 quart on recommendation from a cooking magazine. The Le Creuset was the best in the dutch oven category, but at $300, was way out of my budget. The Lodge was considered the best buy. There is a 1 inch crack beginning at the top, but I cannot say for certain if the crack was created from shipping or cooking, since I used it immediately. I used it on the stovetop and in a 350 degree oven. The crack was observed while washing the pot by hand after using it. I did not notice it when washing before using. Honestly, I'm too lazy to return or use the warranty. I am just hoping for a year's worth of cooking out of it. Having said that, it is very heavy and keeps heat in magnificently. I was impressed with its cooking capabilities, though this is the first heavy dutch oven I have used. The lid is also solid and seals very well. The knob on the lid feels heavy duty and the pot has nice handles for lifting.
