Lizzie McGuire Soundtrack
The Disney Channel's Lizzie McGuire series has been a big hit with the kids. Now here's an album of songs from the series that's bound to be a hit also -- with kids of all ages. While there is a youthful focus to the tracks assembled here, there's still a little something for most tastes.
Take for example Hilary Duff's (aka Lizzie McGuire) cheery and melodic "I Can't Wait." It's light without being lightweight -- an acoustic-driven song with a ramped up chorus and sweeter-than-sweet vocals. Then it's a hop, skip and jump to Smashmouth's version of the War classic "Why Can't We Be Friends?" An eternally catchy track played at full tilt with a ska twist. Great stuff!
The vibrant Jump5 don't let things slip for a second, rolling out their hot dance number "All I Can Do." It has a great beat, a burbling bass, and features an uplifting chorus and a key change that adds extra pep at just the right moment. Swedish pop foursome Play chime in with a dance track of their own, "Us Against The World." This song takes flight on celestial harmonies.
Jessica Simpson is right at home in this company and adds a dimension of her own to the album with the Latin rhythms, hooky chorus and anguished vocals of "Irresistible." It's a worthy segue into the Jackson 5 classic "ABC" that, no matter how many times you hear it, always sounds as fresh and peppy as the first time it hit your ears. Meanwhile, S Club 7 dips into the past to find a '60s pop vibe to weave their new-millennium magic through: "Everybody Wants Ya" is a song that encapsulates pop pedigree at its best.
Next up it's The Wiseguys (featuring Greg Nice) with their pop/dance/hip-hop cut "Start The Commotion" which, like S Club 7's offering, is a mix of old and new: rap rhyming and '60s Brit pop vocalizations. It's one of the more intriguing songs on the album without a doubt. Another teen queen, Mandy Moore, chips in with her soothing love ballad "Walk Me Home," before the tone reverts to the get-up-and-dance mode with the funky Fan_3 track "What They Gonna Think." Tons of fun for your feet.
The disc closes out with the great voice of Dana Dawson doing her thing over a disco beat on "Have A Nice Life" (yet another awesome dance number) and the brief "Theme Song To Lizzie McGuire." Both of these tracks are polished pop and add to the CD's appeal as a real party disc.
It's great that there's still fun, wholesome TV shows for the younger set, and it's an added bonus that a CD like this can come from those programs. Lizzie McGuire is musically engaging and good for the soul. Grab a copy and spread the love around.
