As a long-time lover of LeapFrog products, our family was excited to have the chance to review the LeapReader! Big Pros: - It really is a big improvement over the Tag pen, which we have two of - the ability to recharge the Reader directly is HUGE for a family that already uses way too many batteries =) - Another favorite new feature is the larger storage capacity for stories and songs. - I really love that the pen teaches writing and correct stroke order - our daughter has had a problem with that. Possible Cons: - I haven't been able to test this out for myself but I've heard that files for the newer books are larger than the old Tag books, which cuts down on the implied benefit of more space on the LeapReader. - I also know that not all Tag books are compatible with the LeapReader, so that could be disappointing. - I really wish that the pen would write on regular paper because the special paper gets used up quite fast - I know that a lot of other parents appreciate that it doesn't write on other surfaces, though =) All in all, the kids have found the pen so easy to use and we are really happy with the upgrade. In fact, my husband had been working with our 3 yr old to learn his letters but he only knew a few of them. After a couple of days just playing with the LeapReader and the alphabet book that comes with the system, we discovered that our son had learned almost all of the other letters by himself! If that doesn't show the value of the LeapReader, I don't know what does LOL. *we received this product free for our honest review - all of the opinions are our own*

LeapReader Taught Our 3 Yr Old the Alphabet =)
Great system for the emerging reader!
My daughter loves playing with this, there's so many options and things to do. We have a few of her favorite books, like Doc McStuffins and Disney's Cars. There's the options to read word by word, read by page, and even read the entire story. Also there's games to play, and it has definitely encouraged her love of reading. Check out her demonstration at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9A5GTnj4oHI
It helped my grandaughter learn everything she need to know for kindergarten in just 3 weeks. And she still learning.
Just what my 5 year old grandbaby needed to assist her.
My 6 yr old feels in controll when using leapreader, gives him encouragement that he can read and decide when he needs help,,we both love it... as always walmarts shippments always received before scheduled date
Children love it! Buy it!
This is great from ages 4 to about 8years old. I have a 3year old and a son that is almost 6years old. We got the volume 1-4 book sets, USA map puzzle, solor system, and the human body! My 6 year old doesn't want to put it down! It reads books to them one page at a time or they can push on each individual word to have it read. Each page also has games on them. Your child is having fun while learning! It has audio books, learning songs, and trivia they can listen to. Cool for the car as well because it has the thing to stick your headphones in! Have not had it long but I can see us having lots of fun together! My 6year is loving the USA puzzle map! Learning states and things about each state! My 3year old is enjoys helping his brother with the different games.
You need a desktop/lap top with USB port, to download the books onto the pen. Easy download. Make sure to get the right corresponding books.
Good for the kids
My child just picked up the reader immediately and used it repeatedly. He is only 4 and not in school yet, but he started to make strides in his reading. I would recommend this product anytime. It has already met its price point.
This product is just the pen. The book is a summary of other books that you can buy and that you can use with this pen. Also the writing sheet is just a sample including just the letter A, z and the number 2. You have to buy the writing book. Is a great product but I was expecting more than a pen.
Doesn't include much
I didn't realize you had to buy a lot more stuff to use this. There is just a taste of stories and one sheet to practice writing. It should have been more clear about what is included (excluded)
