This fan works, but I do not like the lack of quality is the best way I can describe it. I purchased this fan and an Optimus. I have used the Optimus for 4.5 years in the den without issue (except the Optimus remote interferes with DirecTV remote, seriously). I chose to go with Lasko this time because the box fans we have in the bedrooms are Lasko, and the Optimus was delivered with a crack in the foot base of the stand. This model of Lasko pedestal has a molded round disk base, so no legs to be broken. The Optimus has slide over clips to keep the fan grill together. And here is my biggest issue for dropping stars on the Lasko… it has lousy plastic clips that just pressure pop into place. It was delivered with a broken top clip. The broken part of it was not loose in the box, nowhere to be found. Even if I had found it, it would have been useless since it is supposed to be a solid molded piece of the back grill that just “pops” into a hole on the matching front grill…. So I used the twist tie that was around the cord. I can only assume it was a returned fan. I chose to not return it for a new fan because I have no confidence that something else may not be broken or missing on the next one, and my work around does not interfere with use.
The remote, as noted, does not come with the 2 AAA batteries. You'd think for a $50+ fan, it would include the batteries, but I knew there were no batteries going into the purchase. The remote is small (3.25 x 2.25 x < .75 inches) includes a tiny (1/2 inch x ¾ inch) Velcro adhesive patch to stick on the back of the remote in case you want to mount it some place. I had thought of doing this when I was purchasing the fan, but I don't think I could find that TINY Velcro spot to return the remote, especially since I plan to use it at night in the dark bedroom. It is not a very sturdy remote and I have yet to check the distance it will function. If I decide to use Velcro, I'll expect to apply a larger strip than the one included.
The difference between my fan and the picture is that the bottom grill of the fan sits down over the top third of the electronic area. I do not know if the picture is with a smaller fan than the 18” but this is also something I need to investigate regarding if it will interfere with the remote. All I've done is check that the remote works from 6 feet away, directly pointing at the fan.
Another thing, I purchased the white model, the picture is not shadowed, the fan blades are gray plastic, not white, and mine have rough edges, meaning the plastic molding was not cleanly done.
Quietness… the Optimus is quieter, but it is a 16”. I have to test the Lasko 18” as I try to sleep.
I also do not look forward to cleaning the fan blades because of the grill clip issues.
In summary, I expected more from this remote fan since it is twice the price of the non-remote model. If I was to make another purchase, I'd go back to the Optimus brand.
