I got this laptop around Black Friday and so far its phenomenal. Every game I've played so far like Gears, Apex, Monster Hunter look great compared to most TVs with its awesome little 144hz screen and honestly plays better than consoles in a lot of aspects. It does run hot, but rightfully so and not really at worrisome temps according to Omen command center. The price on this thing is crazy good for the specs too. Compare it to 1400-1500 dollar range laptops and the only difference in most cases is going up to a 2070 or 2080 and a larger ssd. Not worth the 4%-7% graphics card difference. I am going to upgrade the ssd for 100 bucks and it's easy on this thing really. Oh, and it looks awesome!

great gaming laptop for cheap
This seems to be a special walmart edition of this laptop. It has 144Hz screen, even though it is not in the description. It has great build quality and looks great. It runs hot, but it seems expected for a gaming laptop with these specs. In gears 5 it can get around 97 in performance mode if laptop is laying flat on desk. I did not notice throttling and 97 is not in the dangerous temp range, according to HP monitoring software. Raising the laptop to improve airflow helps decrease temp a bit, getting just above 90. I'm waiting for my cooling pad to arrive to see if it helps. I wanted a laptop with the numeric keypad, but now I think it would be better to just have a bigger, more spaced, keyboard without it. I don't take any stars for it because, for a laptop keyboard with numeric keypad, I think it has a good layout given the space restrictions. Overall I'm satisfied and impressed with build quality when compared with other models same price range I looked at other stores. I'll update with pictures later and tell if cooling pad helps anything.
Perfect mid-tier gaming laptop.
Extremely well put together gaming machine. On arrival, the only needed to set up was the usual new windows setup, minimal bloatware pre-installed, some drivers needed to be updated. Shipping was super fast, ordered past the next-day eligible time Saturday night and it arrived Monday afternoon in factory new condition. My laptop came with everything described in the description i7-9750h- Nvidia RTX 2060 6GB - 16gb ddr4 2666- 256GB ssd+ 1TB HDD - 144hz IPS display. Thermals are excellent, never saw cpu go anywhere near 90c while stress testing with performance mode on. Extremely happy with this purchase (1,049 Rollback price)
I picked up this computer 11/20/2019. Tested on testufo.com the refresh rate of this computer is 144Hz. I am not having heating issues. The USB 3.1 port is a thunderbolt port. All else is as advertised. In my opinion this is a great value. My only conplaint is the monitor doesn't have G-Syinc, but at this price it was not expected.
I love this HP OMEN 2060 16gb memory and 256 SSD with 1TB HDD its fast and stores more memory than the previous 128SSD and its video card is has a better graphics than the 1660 TI and the 1060 and for the previous comment this is not a MSI this is a HP OMEN theres a big difference between the two and the CPU does run a little hot but not to bad it had does have to exhaust fans and the Frame is made out of carbon fiber plastic so it does have a great feel to it the awesome thing is you have 3 USP PORTS 1 in the back and 1 on the left and right side of the Laptop and a HDMI PORT in the back to keep the wires from cluttering up your desk, another awesome thing is you change the Keyboard by THE OMEN Command CENTER to any color you want to and its bright enough to see at night but the 3rd and most thing is the price for $1,199.00 is better than paying $1,349.00 at HP.COM so your saving some there its a great laptop and most of all i cant wait to get this for a Christmas present for my son to play FORTNIGHT AND WORLD OF Warcraft and you can run the FPS for both games around 120-130FPS and thats what you want in a gaming laptop and the specs are awesome so i highly recommend this laptop to all you gamers out there and happy hunting to all you all.
Excellent Laptop at a Great Price!
Was looking for a laptop to replace my custom built desktop PC that was starting to get old. It had a i5-4690k OC'ed to 4.4ghz, 16gb ddr3 at 1866mhz and a GTX 970. I was worried about making a lateral move coming to a laptop even though it was newer since laptops user lower power draw components that end up being slower than their desktop counterparts. This laptop has proven to be a nice upgrade with the added bonus of mobility. This particular HP Omen is the best deal by far at it's current price point (on sale for $1049 for Black Friday 2019). Nothing anywhere on the net comes close. You can find similar laptops in the $1300-$1600 range so this price was fantastic. Pros: - i7 9750 6 core processor with 6 additional threads for apps (like video transcoding) that can take full advantage of hyper-threading. Great at multitasking and maximizing CPU bound games like World of Warcraft. - 16gb DDR4 at 2666mhz in dual channel. More than enough RAM at a very fast speed to handle ANY AAA game. - 256gb SSD for Operating system and a couple apps or games you want to load/read/write faster. SSD does not contribute much to framerate but drastically reduces load times in games like Skyrim when going to and from buildings to outdoor areas. - 1tb 7200rpm HDD great for storing all your games. I use Steam and save most of my games here as well as other important files like my IT tools and VirtualBox machines for testing purposes. - RTX 2060 6gb DDR6 VRAM This is what makes this laptop so much better than all other laptops in similar price range. Most laptops at this price have either previous gen card or a GTX 1660ti at most. The RTX gives you access to the new ray tracing technology and this card is no slouch allowing you to play most games at high to ultra settings with fantastic framerates well over 60 in 1080p gaming. This card is only 4%-7% slower than a RTX 2070 max-q! I am an avid gamer and an IT professional. This is a fantastic laptop. There are only a couple "cons"...really only 1 "con" and a couple things I wish were different. Con: - This laptop only has a 60hz refresh rate. This is not a huge deal but I thought it was 144hz like most Omens. This only really matters for people playing FPS games like Call of Duty and Fortnite. It is still a nice display and will work fine for those games but not "optimal". That was really the only con. I kinda wish I got a 17" laptop, but it won't matter much when my new 32" Samsung monitor arrives. Also, it is a shame that Nvidia had to loose so much power on the RTX 2060 by undervolting the laptop version to only pull 80-90 watts. This has NOTHING to do with HP and is no fault of theirs but it is a shame that it is 30% weaker than the desktop version. Also Nvidia deceives would be buyers by not using the max-q name at the end. Make no mistake, this is NOT the desktop variant but a mobile variant much like the 2070max-q and 2080max-q. Again, this is on Nvidia and NOT HP. Nvidia needs to clean up their naming scheme. NOTE: Many people complain about gaming laptop cooling. Yes some are better than others but if you invest in a gaming laptop and do not buy a $20-$30 laptop cooler that sits under the laptop and is powered via USB than you are a fool. I do not care if you drop $3k on an alienware....you better expect high temps with high clock i7 like the 9750 or greater and a proper RTX mobile gaming card. If you want high+ resolution and framerates than ANY laptop is going to get very warm. I only gave this laptop 4/5 stars due to 60hz IPS monitor. It still looks nice but should have been at the very least a 75hz. Construction is great and aesthetics are pleasing. Love the RGB keys as well though they do show oil but it is to be expected on black. I color all zones red as I love and embrace the r/black color scheme. Excellent Laptop at a Great Price!
The Real Review: Abysmal Build Quality
The first piece I got had screen bleeding and screen-panel hinge was squeaky. I ordered a replacement, the screen bleeding was even worse now and it had a defective usb-port, the hinge was better now though. As for using the laptop, it's a good experience but for gaming, you'll have to attach an external monitor for the screen is that bad. Apart from that, the speakers crackle a lot, so you'll have to get a headset or external speakers. All in all, I'm never buying an HP product again, due to this I missed a lot of other good deals.
