  • A. If you are looking for a quality, inexpensive Blu-Ray Player, the LG BD530 is the perfect candidate. It plays both DiVX and MKV files and is able to access internet features such as YouTube, Picasa and Accuweather; but, unfortunately, lacks the ability to stream Netflix. I copied and pasted this from bfads.net when looking on their website.

Plays DivxHD, AVI, MKV directly from Blue Ray Disc

I have used this Blue Ray player for more than 2 weeks now and it plays the following without any issues directly from Blue Ray disc as well as DVD, CD and USB: DivxHD AVI ( I haven't tried all codecs but whatever I tried worked without any issues) MKV AVCHD I was successfully able to play couple of 720p 4.35 GB mkv files with that's encoded with H264 & DTS audio with subtitle without any issues. Subtitle worked perfectly fine. Files with DTS audio plays flawless directly on TV speakers without requiring any additional DTS receiver. MKV playback is awesome and Up-conversion works great.I can clearly see the difference between regular playback and upconversion (the files I have used were IMAX HD documentaries and Disney Pixar movies i.e. quality of the original file was good to start with). I tried Verbatim LTH some very cheap media from Meritline and Optical Quantam BD-R burned using IMGBURN in my LG WH10LS30 Blue Ray burner and everything worked flawless. Blue Ray disc loads really fast the picture quality is crystal clear. Also quality of You tube and picasa is great. Overall, it's great inexpensive player that played many media from various sources. It played various file formats not even supported by Philips 5982 Divx player but I still can't retire my WD Live as MOV & MP4 is not supported.

I bought this player and connected to my Onkyo receiver then to LG 1080p TV. Looked very nice at first. Played the one blu-ray disc and the clarity was same a DVD. Then I tried an MP3 CD it worked fine. I turned off the TV , it automatically powered down the Player. tried to power on and it won't power up. finally I have to unplug and plug back in. Additionally I tried to play a music CD , after playing a minute it skips a second or two then continue. I called tech support , they asked me to do a reset (hold power button for 40 sec). That did not resolve any of the issues. BTW the tech support was NOT really welcoming. Addition to this I have an up converting LG DVD player and it had the power down issue and tech support says its designed to work like that with LG TV(power of the player when TV is powered off). So If I want to play a music cd I have to keep the TV on.

I paid only 65.00 for this player and to be honest I did not expect much but to my surprise this is a very good player. I have played MKV files from usb stick, ACHVD files that I burned to DL-DVD's, Bluray disk, and burned Bluray disk. It played them all. The only gripe, well not a gripe but more of a wish would be Netflix streaming but for the price you can't have everything. For anyone that has never owned a bluray player like myself now is the time to jump onboard.

I bought this blu ray player to play avi/divx/mkv files, and it worked wonderfully for a week. After that it would take 20 minutes and numerous attempts before it would finally read the files from a disc. Usb works fine, blu rays and dvds work fine, but 98% of the time it won't read files from a disc, unless you keep letting it eject and close again. I'll be returning it shortly as it is absolute junk.

Bought this for Christmas, and was having a great time with it...watched blu-rays, and lots of netflix on it. Then out of the blue, stopped working the other day. Lasted less than 90 days. No Power. Tried plugging it in in different outlets, no luck. Luckily, it was before the 90 days, and I was able to return it to Walmart without any problems. Now to go shopping for another Blu-Ray player...

I have been looking for BD player for 1 year and never seen LG BD player for 65. this player plays most of the Bluray titles. You connect your harddrive to it( I connect 1TB hardrive) and it will play your music, movies and photos with ease. You can watch youtube videos without any problem and firmware upgrade is very easy. For $65 it is a jackpot.

Cheap Player, No Longer takes Firmware Updates

Customer review by Happykook

I had owned two of these players for a few years and could not have been happier with them. They always played the Blu-Ray Movies nice and the USB worked great for hooking a portable HD up and playing music and movies from it. As far as networking, it is wired, and all that you get is Youtube, Weather Channel, and Picassa. Why these three who knows, I didn't buy it for online usage so I didn't care. What I do care about is firmware updates to keep the player current to the newest Blu-ray disks and for the last few years the updates worked great no matter if I did it online, or downloaded the update and installed it via disk or usb. That is until now... I realized that a new update was needed when I bought some new Blu-Ray movies and both my players spit them out, saying they are unreadable. I put them in my newer LG Blu-ray wifi player (on current firmware) and it reads just fine. So I check to see if an update is ready, and there is one. But now on both my players it will download the update, but when it goes to install it, it freezes and won't do anything, I have to pull the power cord just to get it to reset. So as time goes on these players will not be able to play newest Blu-Ray disks because they won't update anymore! I'd recommend getting a newer player, this one just doesn't keep up anymore!

I received this player last Christmas as a gift and I wasn't quite sure of the quality, I had never owned a LG product before. I found it had excellant picture and the ease of use was great, and the features are ones that I believe I would find in a more expensive competitive brand. I like the fact I can connect to the internet and get more information, and updates. After owning this model for six months I went and bought another BD530 for my bedroom. I highly recommend this product!

This is one of the cheaper models that plays well but does not have the capabilties of ones a little more expensive. This is not a wireless unit and there are no adapters according to LG support to make it so. if you do run a hardwired internet connection to it the only thing that gets is accu weather and youtube or picasa if you want to share family pics over the internet for a fee. this is also the only way to get your software updates for this system if they ever come available.

This blueray player is very easy to set up and very intutive to use. It also has network capabilities and the manuel is very well written. It goes without saying that the picture quaility is absolutely great It was a good investment for a starter system, and I am a novice at this sort of thing and it installed without a hitch. Will buy again from LG when I upgrade.
