Amazing Picture from an Amazing TV
I've had this TV for a little over a month and am still discovering different features and still astounded by the image quality. Many who are looking at these OLEDs already know how great the image quality is but i did not expect to use some of the additional features such as the ThinQ seamlessly integrating with alexa/google home, gallery mode serving as an attractive screen saver, and multiple HDR modes which all look fantastic. The C8 serves as an amazing centerpiece to my living room and I expect it will for many years to come. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Breathtaking colors & sound w no soundbar
How many to bring the television I never in 1 million years thought of buying a 65 inch television by LG I stayed back and examined all the TVs from a distance this one caught my eye because of the outstanding colors I really can't say enough about this TV with high definition in your home this TV looks as beautiful as it did in the store. I am very overwhelmingly happy with my purchases it was a lot of money but this is my entertainment the quality is beyond exceptional nothing like I've ever own before, certainly worth every penny the colors pop you've literally feel like you're in the room where it's showing. Just so breathtaking I can't get enough [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Best TV I've ever owned
I'm a retired broadcast engineer with over 45 years in the industry. I've seen the best quality video available over those years. With today's UHD resolution, high dynamic range, and wide color gamut the bar has never been higher. This TV delivers on all three of these aspects.
Smart TV features are thorough. The user interface is pretty intuitive. The speed of the Netflix interface is the fastest I've seen. The remote is packed with features too.
Probably the most visible feature is the essentially infinite contrast ratio due to the ability of OLEDs to deliver full total black output.
The upper two thirds of the screen is extremely thin.
The only negative I've experienced is the Google home interface to the LG ThinQ internet interface. The ThinQ app works fine, it's just the interface to Google that's the problem. And, this may be totally Google's fault.
One more thing, and this might not be achievable, I wish the screen surface wasn't so glossy and reflective. It's acts as a good mirror where the screen is black. You'll need a dark room to make the best, reflection free experience.
Bottom line, buy it!
Reference level image quality!
So I'm really picky about image quality. Being a retired professional photographer and state government exhibit director the way things look is an obsession. I spent many years carting around big view cameras loaded with black and white film packs, and many, many hours in darkrooms printing exhibition quality images. Even taught it in college, so I'm obsessed. In my museum work I installed many monitors in exhibits up to and including a huge, 240lb. cathode ray tube based high definition video projector (that took a week to calibrate). Image quality is a thing with me, no kidding! Owned a lot of tv's, cheap and expensive, and calibrated many computer monitors so Photoshop is running at 100-percent accuracy. The image quality on this LG OLED display is second to none. I am just blown away by it's ability to render a perfect grey scale, complete with absolute, reference level black, and gorgeous chroma and highlight details. At the SAME TIME! This is a first as I've never owned a video monitor that was able to render not just shadow detail, but highlights as well. Skin tones, after a minor calibration are just stunning. And watching a classic black and white film is just awesome. The LG software is excellent and precise. I'm a happy customer. This beautiful tv is a keeper! Best purchase in the last couple years! My tv was full HD 1080p but it was about time for an upgrade. I've seen many tv's in store and really didn't know what the differences were besides side by side comparisons. After online reasearch I found that all the reviews for this LG product were positive and everyone really enjoyed it. I went back to the store to see this model again and I was sold. Got it delivered to my house and like a kid on Christmas morning I immediately opened the package and put the tv up on our entertainment center. This is a show stopper and I'm completely satisfied! A think screen of color
I bought this tv about a month ago to replace a 10 year old plasma tv. The plasma had a good colorful picture that could be viewed from almost any angle. I wanted a tv that would live up to need. This LG is much lighter in weight which made it easier to hang. The LG can also be viewed from just about every angle as well. It has great features, including Alexa controlled. If you are like us though and streaming tv through a Roku player that feature evades a practical use as it cannot change channels.
We love this tv, with the exception of one aspect. We have this tv in a den that has a lot of outside light. During the day and night we have it set to the Expert Bright setting. This seems great for evening and night but is not bright enough to be top notch during the day. I have briefly tried the other settings and it seems that another setting might work reasonlly well during the day but not yet figured out which one. In other words, it is unlike the plasma in that it is not bright in any setting. This seems to be a tv that needs to be adjusted for daylight and dark. If the tv was always in low lightening, it would be a super tv. If we figure out a good setting for daylight that still means that adjustments will have to be done every day. When we get used to that it probably will not be a factor at all.
On the really good side, the tv has much more realistic color to me, than a plasma. You really get to see true black and in lower light you seem to get more natural looking scenes without the glaring bright colors. I think I can find a setting for day but I haven't wanted to take the time. If the tv holds up for a long period of time without problems, I would say it is a great tv to purchase.
