I bought this unit in August of 2016. I live in a 900 sq. ft. house and my central AC unit quit. No AC in August in Texas is not good. The AC guy couldn't get here for 5 days and no idea how long to get parts. I cranked the thermostat all the way down. It made the house tolerable until my central unit was fixed. This little unit has energy saver, remote control, digital readout, easy clean filter and did better than expected. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

LG 5000 BTU
EZ install ,About 15 mins to install in the window, suprisingly quite !! I just cant understand Why now the manufactures are now telling us that a 6000 BTU will do such a larger area ? When I sold appliances 5000 btu cover about 12 by 12 room . Now the new ratings are saying that 1000 btu will cover a additional 100 square feet with a 6000 BTUsq feet! They must have changed something Big time . If BTU rating have changed I was not aware of this fact . Just saying 1000 btu will not cool a small closet .
I am still in love with this a/c unit though I do wish I could get rid of the rattle that has developed. I have stuffed paper around the filter panel to try to keep it to a minimum because the unit is actually a lot quieter than the unit this one replaced. After almost a year it is still keeping my bedroom very cold which helps me sleep at night. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Put this in my Master bedroom window May 6th. This replaced a Frigidaire 5000 BTU unit I gave away. The first thing I noticed was the air output had no up and down adjustment; only side to side. I turned it on, and was surprised at how noisy it was. Especially when the compressor turned on. My last unit, you couldn't even tell when the compressor kicked in, it was so quiet. When it got the room to the preset temperature, I discovered that the compressor kicks on every 4 minutes and runs for 30 seconds or so, then turns off. Waits 4 minutes then kicks in again. Wondered why it has to turn on so often all night, which is the only time it runs. The room is only about 200 sq. ft. and the outside temperatures have not even hit the mid summer highs yet. Also, when I turn it on using the remote, it always goes into energy saver mode, which is not where I use it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Take Two (for a $$ loss)
Very cheaply made. Compressor would not start on the first one (purchased elsewhere on sale for significantly less) and LG would only reimburse me with proof that I had purchased a new one of the same model. The original store no longer stocked them. I was fortunate to find this one here at Walmart. The one purchased here at Walmart is working and actually seems to have smoothed out since I installed it.
You get what you pay for.
Pilot holes for screws too small; can only get screws part way in. No place on body to get a good grip; hard not to drop and difficult to remove from box without cutting self on sharp metal on back of device. Screws not magnetic; you will drop them constantly and if they fall inside the device its difficult to get them out. I guess you get what you pay for.
Put it in window, used a outdoor mount, as Windows slide to sides, not up n down! Can't say I'm impressed with L. or R. direction. Blows up, down, L. and R., at all times. No matter where u aim it! Waiting for 1st bill, then can say it it's worth it! Undecided on price, or put old back in!! H.D. saves 30.00, however!!!
Disappointing Compressor Noise Level
In August 2016, I bought the LW6016R 6K BTU AC - "Recommended" based on it being in the top recommended window unit reviews of Consumer Reports. Although the unit cools well and the price was reasonable, the LG's compressor is much louder than the new Fridgidaire 6K BTU window unit I bought for another bedroom this summer (2017). The LG disturbs my sleep at times and is too noisy for watching television without having to turn up the TV's volume. I am disappointed that Consumer Reports did not note this problem of the compressor noise in their review. I had an AC repairman come to my apartment to check out the units - he told me that LG's compressors are just louder than Fridgidaire's and that there is absolutely nothing I can do to lessen that noise - it is normal for the LG AC units. Too bad I cannot return the air conditioner at this point. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
