We had fun building it (me and my 8-10's), and more fun playing with it. Though when an elf joined in the unexpected party degenerated. Clever design, especially the round window. The door with the G-for-Gandalf was a major hit with the kids. Lots of food, Bilbo's book, and two Stings, so this set is good for before or after the Unexpected Journey. If you intend to play with the set, as we did, the base of the building needs bracing, we added thin Lego strips to all the joins under the base. The front fence is fragile, so either move it back a little or strengthen it with some bracing. Or let the dwarves make a fire. A fun set which has been Bilbo's house, a Mirkwood elf's hide-out and substituted as Radagast the Brown's hut in the forest and overrun with animals. Summary: Pros: Great design, lots of play potential, lots of little detail Cons: Needs bracing to keep the base together, dwarves make short work of the front fence. Families rating 10/10

This set, is BOSS! Its big, and I think that its supposed to be for both the Lord of the Rings and for the Hobbit, because it also comes with Sting. Now, pros and cons: Pros: Bilbo Baggins (Shire clothes): Great, and has a double sided face, one with a smile, and the other with a nervous kind of expression. Balin: My favorite minifig of the set, and my favorite dwarf in the Company of Thorin Oakensheild. Dwalin: He is awesome, he comes with a huge hammer, a pale green cape, and a long brown beard. Bofur: One of my favorite dwarfs, he has a weird looking hat, a pickaxe, and a brown cape. Bombur: Good but funny looking dwarf, he has an almost sandwich board piece for his beard and belly, and does not come with a cape. Gandalf: One of the best characters, he has a grey beard, grey hat, grey cape, and grey body (he IS Gandalf the Grey), and a staff. Hobbit Hole: GREAT!!! Its perfect! Of course, they couldn't fit everything, but it was good anyway! Cons: None. Hope you thought this was helpful! Until next time, Mastrbildrspek...

WOW! I love this set. It is truely my favorite Lego set that I have ever built. What do I love about it? It would be easier to list things that I don't like (which would be nothing). First off, this hobbit hole home is nothing like any of the other lego houses or homes that I have built in the past. The structure is solid but it appears to slope at all angles. This is the first Lego home that I have that also has its own garden and walkway. The bench in which Bilbo is sitting on at the start of the movie is also included. Inside the home, there are many details that fill the home up. The writing nook and table with food. My favorite details would have to be the circular window and door. There are some similar elements to the Hogwarts castle throughout the home. The minifigures included all look like they did in the movie. All of them have customized weapons and outfits. This Lego set was very true to the movie. Thank you LEGO!

After receiving the most recent Lego catalog, with 'An Unexpected Gathering' advertised on the last page, I immediately knew that this was the set I would purchase with my saved up birthday money! This set is absolutely wonderful, with extremely detailed outfits for the dwarves, as well as a fantastic interior, full of rare lego food items, such as a pretzel, baguette, cherries, etc... I was personally blown away by the detailed minifigures, all holding their accessories. Bombur is especially interesting with his braided beard attached to his "round" belly. I am very impressed with how much detail LEGO put in the characters and the entire set! The interior is my favorite part of the set, since this is where most of the play experience occurs. It is full of many types of food to feed the hungry dwarves, as well as cool furniture, such as a table, shelves in the corners of the house, and Bilbo's writing table! I am so delighted that LEGO took the time to create this wonderful set. I would recommend this set to any Hobbit / Lord of the Rings fans!

Lego did a great job, lot of details. I'm a Lord of the Rings fan and love it!! Must point out though that the Hobbits feet should have been skin colored as in the Lego Lord of the Rings game.

This set is an amazing replica on the out side the inside has a lot to be desired of though for instance only one room and a small table that only fits 6 people instead of 14. Its mini figures are amazingly detailed including Bombur's head piece which gives him a bald spot, a beard, and a large stomach. the food it comes with is a good assortment including wine bottles, beer bottles, drumsticks, apples, carrots, and cherries. There is a nice fire place with cooking utensils [pots and pans] and a chimney. The desk is to tall for bilbo and you have to stack two chairs on top of each other for him to reach although the maps and book are well detailed. and last the structor of it is sound although you should pick it up by the bottom just in case, the roof comes on and off easily. I recommend this set for The Hobbit fans and my advice is to by al green base plate large enough to fit under it for extra support.

It seemed weird to me that this set used multiple green smaller plates with nothing underneath as a "placemat" as is found in other sets. So when you pick up this finished product it's like holding a cracked egg in your hand and trying to not let the mess out of your hands. This set should have come with a base plate, even specially curved to accommodate for this set so when it is moved it's not going to break apart. I find that frustrating as Lego is usually much better about such attention to details. My 10 year old son built it, while I worked on another set nearby. He did build it correctly (as I thought the fault was with him at first) but that was not the case. It's a very detailed, amazing set otherwise and a nice change of pace from the usual forms of houses or buildings but it seems that is really a downside to this. If your not planning on moving it from where it's at, no problem.

this set is larger than it looks it is the most detailed set ive ever had it was my first hobbit set. The best thing about this set (besides the amazing appearance when it's finished) is the minifigures it has 4 dwarves gandalf and bilbo all with weapons. - I'll start with gandalf cool hat and cape his staff could've been more detailed but otherwise he looks cool. -Bilbo detailed hair double-sided face and of course sting no cons for bilbo -Dwalin The best minifigure in this set a he has a huge unique hammer a light-green cape and tatooes very detailed minifigure. -Balin my second favorite of the company of dwarves (my favorite is Gloin) he comes with a sword red cape long white beard and wrinkled face. -Bofur he has a double-sided face a unique hat and pickaxe. -Bombur also a double sided face dwarf (both happy) he has a beard and an enlarged stomach. Problems- My main problem was breaks not little ones either i had major cracks as if an earthquake happened so i recommend people not to play with it but it looks so detailed and amazing i keep it on my shelf as a collector item.

This set is very cool and is probably my favorite set of the middle earth line. It can be used for both the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings. The figures are great. You get Bilbo Baggins in an exclusive print. Dwalin and Balin who both also come in the Lonely mountain set with different prints. Bofur and Bombur are exclusive to this set and you also get Gandalf the Grey which is the same as all the other Gandalf the Grey figures. Onto the main set: This model is accessories heavy and that is very cool. You get a dining table and alot food elements. there is the book where Bilbo writes his story. There is also the map of Middle earth showing the Shire, Mirkwood, and the Lonely mountain. In the front of the model there is also a garden in the front of the model where Bilbo grows his veggies. Overall I think this set is fantastic and If your interested in the LOTR and Hobbit line this is a must. Also since the last wave of the Hobbit sets are comming out this set will eventually be discontinued. So pick it up as soon as you can you wont regret it. The build is fun and the minifigs don't disappoint

This was the set I had been eye-balling ever since the Hobbit sets were announced. It has a great collection of mini-figures, a lot of great accessories with food, weapons, and maps, and Bag End itself is really quite detailed in the construction. This took me only a little over 2 hours to build - a lot of smaller pieces came into play! The only thing I wish LEGO would change about its sets is the sticker system. It's frustrating trying to stick a 'wood-grain' sticker on a very thin lego piece. It would be nice if the pieces were just manufactured to have that texture. That being said, the pieces look great and add a lot to the set. The price point is a little jarring - though LEGO fans shouldn't be surprised at this point by how much the officially licensed products cost. Overall, I would definitely recommend this product to a friend!
