This christmas I offered my child the emerald night, with all the recommended additions. I bought 1box of straight and curved rails with it. To my surprise (obviously should have done better research) one box is a U. I went back online to order another box, but sold out and not for sale anymore. What was left was to buy the flexible tracks, from the reviews of flexible tracks I was warned that they don't function well, but I bought this combination box and crossed my fingers. The straight tracks are great and no problems, but in order to make the loop, we need most of the flexible tracks and the train gets stopped on the flexible tracks. For hours we have tried to make it work, but the maximum the train went, without stopping at the flexible tracks and only at full speed , is once. Untill they offer again a box of regular tracks, not the flex tracks, my son his train set is to look at, not to play with, For the first time lego disappoints, on something as simple as tracks, but what fun is a train that stops almost every turn?

Lego train track is pretty standard. There is not much to say about it other than if you get into Lego trains, you will need more of it. Generally, it snaps together easily and stays together pretty well. My complaint with this specific set is all of the flexible pieces. These pieces come in handy to make some final connections to maximize track space or if you have a complex track setup with switches. If you put too many of these together in a row, the track is wavy (looks silly for a train fan; kids think its funny however). You don't need all the flexible pieces this set provides. Two more regular straight pieces and a reduction in flexible pieces would be great. One other note: Some people have mentioned trains slow down on these flexible tracks. We have not noticed that. What we have noticed is that the trains are louder when the roll over these tracks compared to the normal straight and curve tracks.

Hi LEGO! I have been a fan for my entire life! I still own all the Lego sets from my childhood, and now I am reliving the excitement with my children (3 boys and a daughter). Having said that, I am very disappointed that this is the only set to purchase additional straight tracks! (As a Lego purist I think the flexible track is cheesy and useless, and can easily find the full curved tracks on the secondary market for 0.50 cents each). The net result is the cost to expand our track layouts we are forced to pay $2.50 per 5” length! (Hardly a bargain). That works out to be 0.50 cents an inch, or six dollars per foot! If you want us to buy more exclusive/hard to find/specialty train sets, and build massive layouts covering an entire room or more ;-), please consider this is a barrier to your own success. To be fair, this has been the only real complaint I've had with an otherwise brilliant product!

Electric trains get stuck on the Flex Track

I see where LEGO is going in offering Flex Track. Though the intentions are good the unintended outcome has been not so good. I have seen on many occasions when using an electric (remote enabled) train if you are going at slow speeds or come to a stop over the Flex Track the train will get stuck. This is frustrating thus resulting in me not using Flex Track at all. Flex Tracks make building tracks harder. When using the standard curve track it helps guide our little ones to meet back to the where they started building. With Flex Track it is sometime more difficult to make a complete track. I propose this kit be changed to a combination of a few Flex Track and in its place bring back the Standard Curve track. The flex track is great for those master builds of creative bends but for the novice or beginner its not a good idea. LEGO, please bring back the Standard Curve track. Cheers

I have bought two of these track expansions, but I was quite confused when I went to find a curved track pack- and was baffled by the fact that LEGO have stopped selling them!! For me, a LEGO trains collector myself- curved tracks are essential! They make it go around! I am however quite satisfied with the straight tracks included. They add length and with 8 tracks in a row the train can build up speed. Great addition. As for the flexible tracks... -_- I do not agree with the way LEGO advertise them- yeah they are okay for inclines and bridges, but they often cause my trains to slow down and derail when on a curve. I can see that LEGO try to encourage you into buying something like #7938 and #7939, because they include a handsome amount of curved tracks. Money is cruel, but i dont fancy having 6 cargo trains... :( I hate giving bad reviews to LEGO... but it's a no from me.

Flex track is awful. This set is especially questionable: 4 flex tracks make the equivalent of 1 straight track or 1 curved track…doing the math, you’ll only be able to do 1 90 degree curve with this set (note, the 8867 set has enough to make a full circle). As everyone has already mentioned, the drawbacks are many: RC trains do not run well on long lengths of these (very bumpy/noisy), traction is an issue, they don’t look anything like a train track (ugly). So far, I have had 2 uses for these: as a substitute for the lack of a ¼ length straight track which helps to fill in alignment gaps in more complex track configurations (i.e. adding 1 or 2 flex tracks to make 2 sections meet correctly) and as a fancy multiple or 'S' curved length of track (which was neat to do once as a test, but not something I keep in the layout). I would also love to see the return of the curved track and a new sales approach of selling separate track parts in larger bundles. 8 straight tracks and 1 90 degree curve…come on…you’d have to spend a fortune to circle a normal size Christmas Tree (which was my first track creation). Come on Lego...give us what we all want!

I have not encountered the problems others have had with flex track. I like them. They allow so many more track layout possibilities. I like having the ability to create curves of different radius. I also like having the option of using them as straight rails or as half rails. They are very versatile. I believe it takes four boxes to make an oval which would cost around $80, but its a huge oval. A lot of people would find it hard to find the room for it configured as a large circle. I may change my opinion as I use more flex track. Right now I have a good supply of the traditional straight and curved and only one set of the flex rails. I hope LEGO brings back the curved rails along with the double switch points and cross track. After all LEGO is about options so that people can build what their heart desires.

My son loved this addition to his existing Lego train/track set. He wanted his train to go around our Christmas tree this year. It worked great!!

I think we can all agree when making a lego city or a lego layout where we plan on having a lot of trains straight track is the essential and hard to come by. Most Lego train sets come with no or very few straight track so we all come to this set. Lego track is very overpriced and I think the flexible track is not very useful, unrealistic, and looks bad. Now yes flexible can come in handy if you have a tiny spot to fill whether is a curved spot or a straight spot. But sell it separately. Flexible track does have its own set, but why doesn't straight track? I think a set with 8 straight track for $9.99 would be a life saver for those who need bulk quantities of straight track and don't need or want the flexible track. Also what ever happened to the old track sets. The double crossover set was amazing and was very popular to consumers, yet Lego discontinued it. Now to get it is $150+. Also the simple cross over track we saw in every era of track from 4.5v to 9v yet they decided not to make one in RC track form. What ever happened to the old Lego track days. I think if you just need extra track this might be a good set for you. But if you just need straight track in bulk quantities of it I can not recommend this to you.

I read review after review that say the flex pieces are junk, yet I find they are very useful when used with straight pieces. I put one flex piece between each straight piece of track to make a very large radius turn and if I want to make the radius smaller, I just add another flex piece between each straight to make that curve smaller. The flex pieces included in this set are also useful when used to make odd shapes and difficult to connect circuits. I don't reccommend the flex pieces to be used all together in one piece as it makes the track bumpy and the looks of it just doesn't fit in with the normal track. I do however hope LEGO doesn't stop making these pieces but also hope Lego would make larger curve pieces so we can make larger layouts with not so sharp curves. Have you ever wondered why straight track is so hard to find? well most fans always bought straight pieces and added a 1x3 plate and 1x2 plate on each connecting point to make them into curves, very very large curves. This is why straight track is so scarce, AFOL and LUG groups buy up all the straight pieces. Please LEGO, bring out more track designs as well as ways to make it easier to do bridges and inclines
