Installed the 913 lock myself. Played first a bit with the mechanics and electronics familiarizing myself with the functionality. Should however not have played with the electronics: after the the insertion I realized I had filled up the memory for 16 numbers. Had to check how to factory reset the lock. I did not remember the numbers I had tried for testing and I had to now to "play" with resetting. This was somewhat frustrating. Well, it pays to "listen" to the advice in the manual.
The lock was a replacement for an earlier Kwikset which made the replacement straight forward: old lock goes out new one goes in. One feature I particularly appreciated was the self-control of the device: when I demonstrated the lock to my wife she noticed that the LED green/orange color displays for unlocked vs. locked SEEMED not to work. I was puzzled, because with the door open the indicators about the lock status worked! I realized very quickly that the previous cutout for the lock-bolt was not deep enough: this did not allow the internal bolt to be locked against a push back protection. Cutting the bolt receptacle in the door frame deeper allowed the bolt to slip in all the way and indicate correct engagement via the LEDs! This also meant that the previous locksmith (now I am one too) never paid attention to this property of these Kwikset locks. Liked also the Smartkey feature to set the lock to accept my previous house keys.
Overall - this was a very satisfying experience - not only was the installation straight forward, the setting of the codes logical and natural (although the necessary factory reset was a bit of a pain until I had verified it worked as described) but it caught the incomplete engagement of the locked bolt. Great! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
