Amazing for guitar projects
After using Rustoleum and experiencing bad results, I decided to give Krylon a try. BEST DECISION EVER. The nozzle sprays evenly and just the right amount so I never experienced any run or drip, and I didn't have to worry if I was spraying too close. Sprayed 1 tacky coat, then 2 wet coats 10 minutes apart, and let it dry for two days. Then sanded with 600 and I never had any issues with the next layers, in fact the newer coats ended up even nicer. After I sprayed my color, although it was suggested not to, I applied Clear Gloss on top of it the same way, about 10-12 coats (3 per day), and let it dry for a week after the final spray. Then I sanded with 1000, 1500, 2000 and 2500 grit and then hand buffed and polished. I never thought I could have this finish quality without a spray booth or spray guns. Patience is the key. Also read weather and humidity conditions before you spray, it seriously can affect your project.

Inconsistent texture and color
We refinished a wood frame daybed using the Catalina Mist, satin finish. We bought 5 cans and ended up with about three different shades. The texture also came out very inconsistent. Parts came out almost like a semigloss, parts came out like a dusty matte finish. In fact, after spraying/drying, we were actually wiping off a "dusty" layer of paint. Our project came out terribly but we're already committed, so now we have to buy more just to try and correct this terrible product.

This stuff is the best ever for DIY projects

I've been doing DIY projects for 50 years and spray painting was always my last resort for painting furniture, toys, etc. The finish was never smooth and took so long to dry that bugs, dust and debris was always embedded by the time it was dry enough to handle. Not anymore!! Follow the directions for prepping the surface and for ambient temperature, humidity and wind speed, and watch a smooth, professional finish develop before your eyes. My husband works for a major manufacturer of automotive finishing products and even he was amazed. I've used more than a dozen cans of this paint in various finishes [glossy, metallic, satin, etc] over the past year, painting everything from brass cranes to wooden tables and have only had one failure. Obviously the nozzle was bad and the paint spit in large globs and droplets all over me, the floor and the frame I was painting. Recommend you do a test spray over lawn or covered surface before aiming at the object to be painted. [The store gave me a full refund for the messy can I returned.]. Other than that one negative event, everything I've painted has had a smooth, factory finish at the end, with the gloss level accurate and durability great. In addition, it comes in a wide variety of colors, so I'm able to match even unusual shades of colors used in a room. Highly recommended!!

Outstanding, glass-like finish

This is an outstanding spray paint in a can that can allow you to achieve a very controllable spray grade finish that is as good as anything you can achieve with 'spray' capability including rivaling professional spray guns. I achieve 'glass-like', factory finish with this paint which is why I want to share some insights. There has been some critical reviews of this paint that I believe are the result of the fact that the best method of application for this spray paint is a little different from Rustoleum spray paints for example (other products people are first used to). My experience with the Rustoleum products is that they go on heavier, and as an oil/enamel take a typically, very long time to dry (my experience is overnight). The heavier coat per application makes it harder to control the 'layered' spraying that achieves even coverage and glass like finishes. The ColorMaster goes on very thin but dries almost immediately allowing many subsequent coats in rapid succession (5, 10 minutes between the coats). If you try to achieve complete coverage too quickly it may run. Furthermore (my experience is with Satin white), the first or second coats hardly begin to turn the sprayed object to 'color'. Stay patient because you will see why this is an asset and not a hindrance when you get to the final finish! Recognize that after several applications, easily achieved with the fast drying nature of this paint, the color buildup will occur. Because the paint allows you to apply thin layers, you can achieve an even, very smooth finish and it is dry to touch in an hour! When objects are sprayed dust or dirt circulating in the air will stick to the surface between coats (unless you are lucky enough to spray in a 'clean room'). Also, you may think you prepared the surface for paint, but when the paint is applied certain imperfections that were not visible may now show up - this is just a fact of prepping and painting. With a Rustoleum product you have to wait until the next day to lightly sand it out! With the Colormaster, I can lightly wipe off any dust that sticks between coats because it dries to touch (this may be a 20 minute between coat application). I can also sand with say 400 or 600 grit between coats the same day (in an hour or so). Several coats of ColorMaster, say 4-5, a light sanding of 600 grit even with an orbital, and 2-3 final coats and I have glass - even on wood! Again, I cant do this with the Rustoleum - because its not even dry yet. Bottom line: the fast drying capability of Colormaster not only is an asset if you want to handle the work piece the same day - this fast dry capability allows you to tend to the surface between coats within minutes. Overall, I find the colors brighter and more appealing, and ultimate surface smoother, than any other brand. Note: always shake the can thoroughly and start the spraying on cardboard or a test object to make sure the paint is spraying smooth and not spitting. I find that the Colormaster has a short shelf life and if it sits too long 3-6 months an occasional can will 'spit' (i.e.; not spray smoothly).

Works Great

I feel like the other reviewers here do not know how to use spray paint. It requires light coats! I love their products and it has the closest color to tiffany blue. This stuff works great. If you do go heavy on the application you will get orange peel. Take your time and watch some videos. If you take your time it will turn out great

Great For Painting On Tee Shirts!!

The above review mentioned the paint getting 'all over' certain things...Maybe it depends on your project ???, but I had absolutely NO PROBLEM with this paint dripping or getting on anything other than the item intended. I sprayed this paint on a t-shirt laying on newspaper outdoors. I LOVED how well this worked and how quickly it dried. Gorgeous color, easy to use, no mess for me.....this ABSOLUTELY gets 5 stars!!! I'm actually going to buy more colors for future projects :)

Price in store and online is vastly different.

I paid $6 online only to find when I picked it up in the store, the hardware section had it for $3.47! I returned it and got the other one of course (hassle) and it was the same sku! I wrote them thinking they would want to make an adjustment for other customers and their reply was that they were happy that I had found it cheaper in the store! I have no complaints about the product, haven't even used it yet, it was the hassle in the store that got it the low rating. Typically I like Kryon products! Good coverage and easy to use!

Wait more than 24 hours for recoats

I just painted a pinewood derby car for my daughter, and put on the first coat, waited close to 30 hours, and knocked off the gloss with some 1500 sand paper, and upon recoat, the whole car turned into a crinkly mess. Now I have less than a week to completely strip the car and start over before the race.

Stunningly poor product - absolutenly NOT as advertised

Used the gloss gumdrom followed by the gloss clearcoat. Was painting a basswood guitar body & this paint is absolutely worthless. Took months to dry but never did dry, paint melted n peeled off at room temprature. had to sand down to wood & respray multiple times. Directions on can are wildly inaccurate as krylons own "tech support" said to leave each coat 5 days between additional coats at which point it still wasn't dry a mere touch would leave fingerprints. laying it on a surface would leave deep gouges even on a completely smooth surface.

We are sorry to hear that you didn't achieve satisfactory results with our products. You will be contacted soon for further assistance. Kind Regards, Krylon Customer Support

A good paint gone wrong

I used to love a Krylon spray paint, but something has changed and their new formula is just awful. The paint in question was 2 cans of semi-gloss white, bought on two separate dates, about 6-8 months apart. The coverage was so poor I thought that they had not shaken the can throughly, but I was mistaken - the paint coverage was just that bad.

Coverage was about the consistency of sprayed milk; that is NO coverage and continuous runs. I even followed directions with multiple thin coats but still there was no coverage and it continued to run.

I let the paint dry for 36 hours then tried to recoat, only to discover that the new paint wrinkled the previous cost into what looks like a wrinkle finish. This stuff is just plain awful.

It also smells so bad that ventilation is a must, but the still odor remains until the paint dries.

I guess the once great paint company has ceased to exist. I will never but Krylon paint again and will spread the word to avoid Krylon at all costs.
