I bought this product based on the color of the cap alone, not by a review. I was actually looking for another product when I saw the reviews for this one, and felt compelled to leave a review of my own, simply because my project (6, actually) turned out so well. I'm kind of a "Spray Paint Queen", meaning, I do it really well. No drips, no runs, I WAIT the proper time between coats, etc. *** But MOST importantly: I PREPARE my projects properly BEFORE I start. *** I cannot stress this enough. Every single piece and part must be completely free from dirt, grease, AND whatever YOU cleaned it with, IF you want professional looking results. But NO paint is a magic wand. Even if a can... of ANY brand... of paint says "primer included", it doesn't mean you can skip any of the steps I mentioned. It simply means you SHOULD be able to skip the PRIMER step. Plus, paint must be stored at room temperature, NEVER allowed to freeze (like out in an outdoor shed or your garage), and needs to be USED at the proper temperature as well. You cannot re-apply to quickly, or too closely either. But, follow everything the manufacturer has listed, and your projects will turn out awesome, too!

Absolutely GORGEOUS color AND Finish!!
Snapper Lawn Mower Cherry Red Gloss
There was ample concern about using this product, based on the reviews on this web site. The site shows five star and one star ratings, with more being one star.
My rating is five star. I would recommend this product.
The Cherry Red color is correct for my Snapper 21" self-propelled walk behind lawn mower restoration.
The Krylon web site shows the Cover MAXX aerosol to be their best paint, with the best coverage and the best durability. The durability is very important for a lawn mower because of the horrible operating conditions.
My preparation was correct, with a clean, oil-free, bare metal sanded surface on steel.
The ambient temperature was in the specified 50°F to 90°F range, at 80°F.
The single-coat coverage was excellent. It would be sufficient for a quick paint job. For my project I followed the instructions and applied multiple thin coats, waiting 1 minute between coats.
My experience is that even though this is specified as a Gloss finish, the actual finish is more of a Satin finish. The Rustoleum Professional aerosol I use for other projects has a much higher gloss.
Painted well prepped Steal Filing Cabinet
Two to Three light coats no primer and it now looks like I have a baked on finish. I am not sure why the negative reviews maybe not as good on wood, but it looked great on an old metal filing cabinet that needed some TLC back to life.
I did sand off everything that was stuck onto it,(Tape, labels, a little rust) scuffed all surfaces that were painted it was the usual tan some places were bare metal others were still tan and painted over everything with Cherry Red paint. I was worried when I was painting that the appearance between bare metal and panted areas would not look right. But the key is NOT to over paint at one shot. Three light coats provided a great even baked on looking finish.
Thanks great product.
I have a question. I used covermaxx flat black on metal fenders on my motorcycle and turned out really nice but should I spray some kind of protective cost on top? I don't want it to be glossy though.
Gets the job done
I don't know what other reviewers are talking about . MaxxCover works like a charm . The parts came out great with a nice even coat . They look factory new as far as I'm concerned . If you prep the parts correctly and use a few light even coats then you can't go wrong .
COVERMAXX #9198 BLACK / MATTE
We use this paint for model railroad steam engines to represent the original color of AMERICAN FLYER trains of the pre-1966 era and we have found that this is the best color match for this purpose. Covers great and when used in conhuction with the CLEAR / MATTE gives a perfect finish
Whats the problem?
I've used Krylon products for all sorts of projects and I'd put them over any other rattle-can available from local retailers.
Most recently, I used Maxx in Satin Italian Olive (OD Green) on my project car's trunk lid. The spray pattern was very good. It coated evenly and dried extremely fast. I was able to layer many coats at a time without runs.
Also, I've never had trouble with clogs or drips like I do with Krylon's biggest competitor (you know who I mean).
Obviously, a spray can is never going to be a replacement for a professional paint job, especially if you're looking for some kind of high-gloss, but for home DIY, I've not experienced anything better.
I will not be using this again.
The first CoverMaxx Red coat went on great over a well prepped CoverMaxx primer base. I waited over 24 hours as directed and added some CoverMaxx white. It lifted & wrinkled. A few hours are now wasted to start over with a different paint. not to mention, the money. BE CAUTIOUS.
worse can of spray paint i ever used
first time ever using krylon cover maxx ,it will be the last time, it left shinny spots, lines and lots of overspray that left paint powder on the surface that had to be vaccumed off, the over spray also made the finish look and feel like like very rough blotchy sandpaper.I now have to re sand and prep surface all over to respray, i will not be using krylon maxx it is a big waste of time and money . A big dissapointment having used other krylon products with good results
Covermaxx should be "coversome"
I love the sea glass color and was super exited to use it. I've always used krylon on other projects, but this time was sad to find it wouldn't cover completely and the can was labeled "25% more" but seemed to have less paint than usual. Shocked and disappointed.
