  • A. I don't officially know about "the dual capabilities", however, I can use the full 8GBs of storage. I tend to do more studies on this product in the near future.

  • A. Dual Layered (DL) means the disk can record up to 8gb of video on one side only. Double Sided would refer to recording on both sides of the disk which I would not recommend because they tend to get damaged.

  • A. No, it means the DVD will burn up to 8.5GB at two depths on on side. DVD DL burners are common and now come standard on most computers. There are DVD DS which will burn from both sides, but they are not common nor usually desirable. Many game disk use the DS technology.

  • A. No and yes. The disc has dual layers on one side and you need a DVD Burner rated for DL DVDs. They will hold up to 8.5 GB. as compared to 4.7 GB. for single layerDVDs.

  • A. I don't think you turn it over. So far I've used just the one side and it records 8.5GB= 240 minutes, meaning I can put 2 movies on one DL disc or record a 3 1/2 hr. movie on a DL disc. I've recorded hundreds of VHS tapes with movies recorded from TV to DVD -/+R RW & DL. all work fine. I use RW for movies I may want to erase later on. The keepers I use DVD+R DL & DVD+/- R.

  • A. No, you do not use both sides. The writable side is dual layered.

  • A. Dual layer means that you need software that can burn the dual layers of this DVD. It also means that it has twice (almost) the capacity of a single layer DVD. It only has one side that is burnable.

  • A. Actually, it's dual-layered, not two-sided. And you will need a dual-layered DVD drive to burn anything to disc. You can view a dual-layered DVD on a regular DVD drive though. The disc's can hold up to 8.5gbs of data. Hope this helps...

  • A. Dual means there are two layers of 4.3 Gb on one side for a total of about 8.5 Gb.

  • A. Dual layer means it can burn up to 8.4 gb. There is no 2 sides about it. its all on one side. its Called dual layer for having 2 layers on one side so it can hold double the memory a standard DVD can. So yes you can burn those videos over 4gb onto these and should work great!

  • A. No, it will not play in all DVD players. If you still have the instruction manuals for your player it should list all the different types of discs that will play in it (+R, -R, RW, R, Blu-Ray, DVD, CDR, etc.). I have found that these play in a wide variety of players from these manufacturers: Phillips, LG, Sharp, and Toshiba.

  • A. Yes. It will play in any player type as long as burn session is finalized. I have had problems with DVD-R's on some hybrid DVD media players such as those found on Media Center configurations and dual DVD/VHS players.

  • A. DVD+R DL (double layer) media discs are compatible with all current DVD video players and DVD ROM drives as well as new DVD+R DL drives. This disc is ideal for most all household and business applications.

I have always purchased the best priced DVD+ DL disks, regardless of the reviews and never had a problem. In my experience the majority of bad reviews are typically a result of bad software, bad burners or a combination of the two. I still believe that. However, in this case, I tested on 3 of my burners and at 4X to 8X I had 100% failure, at 2-2.4X I had 60% failure. At 1X write speed I am able to salvage the disk and achieve 95% successful good writes. I retested my burners with other known good quality 8X disc and I am able to get that rated write speed out of my burners and software with those. I think WalMart.com and other sellers should pull this product from sales as it just appears to be "Junk" to me based upon my experience. I could return them for refund, and to WalMart's credit they do make it easy, but for me it is still too much of a hassle for $25, since I can write to most, just not at 1/8th the rated write speed. My use is short term, so a good burn is all I need. I would not trust them to be readable for family pictures, movies, heirloom documents, etc as who knows they might only have a very short life even on a successful write.

These disk are ok. I did get about 5 coasters until I realized that even though the description of the product says it can record at 8x speed, the reality is that you will have to adjust your recording speeds to 6x. Once I made this adjustment I did not get anymore coasters. I have always used Maxell disk for recording DVD's and never had any issues recording at 8x. However, for the price of this Kodak 50 pack, I really cant complain and recording at 6x is a very minor adjustment for the money I saved :)

So far I have had to throw away 4 disc after spending all that time recording then computer said an an error in recording so I'd have to toss it out. A waste of money and my time. I thought Kodak was a reliable company. So much for buying well known brands.

Up to this point, I haven't had any experience with Kodak DVD's, usually I purchase another band. They work exactly as advertised and were a great bargain to boot. The yellow & red Kodak logo that is used is kinda bold to look at but what the heck, for 8.5gbs worth storage & good price, I'll get used to it.

I got these on the site to store site for just in case the other ones I also ordered, didn't measure up. The other brand had worse ratings. Ironically, these turned out to be horrible. Every disc quit and gave me an error about half way through the burn, when they was probably moving to the next layer. The other brand worked just fine, every time. Both were exactly the same, specs. wise. Guess much depends on who made the DVD ROM, to begin with.

Purchased them online and got them home. I couldn't use them for anything. They produced errors each of the five times I tried to use them. On the other hand, the Walmart associate who helped me when I returned them was fantastic. It is always a pleasure when picking up an item or in any way dealing with customer service at my local store.
