Versatile

I purchased my ice cream maker in August as a birthday gift to myself, but I was rather disappointed when the sealed box was missing the Dasher attachment. As a result I couldn't make my planned birthday ice cream cake. I called and the sent a replacement which arrived after a month. I froze my bowl over night and tested using the recipe provided for the vanilla ice cream in the book however it didn't set as I expected. So I cleaned the bowl left it in the freezer for 3 days and made a batch of my rasberry cheesecake ice cream and it came out like a dream. I made by strawberry margarita sorbet and had great results. I would suggest keeping it in the freezer at all times or at least 24 hours as the gel between the Chambers need to setup. This weekend I'm testing my coconut froyo so I'll give an update [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Loved it at first...

I received this for my birthday last July. I LOVED it and it worked wonderfully. I was able to make my favorite flavors that I can't get regularly at my grocery store (bubblegum, chocolate malt, etcetera) but after using it three or four times, I put it away. This summer, I pulled it out a few days ago and froze it, all ready to make some fresh fruit flavored ice creams. Instead what I found was a pool of blue liquid at the bottom of my freezer and an ice cream maker that only half freezes recipes now. I am disappointed that my attachment is now useless after only a few uses. Since it is still leaking the freezing agent, I assume it will soon not even half freeze anything.

Does not fit professional 6000 hd model

Received this as a Christmas gift, was very excited to use this during the hot summer months! I made my ice cream mixture, and was dismayed to find that the attachment does not fit my KitchenAid mixer. I made sure that this attachment was correct for my KitchenAid model, which it is. The drive assembly is too small to fit onto the drive shaft, either way that I moved the drive assembly it did not fit. This is very disappointing, as well I received the instructions for a completely different ice cream attachment with a different drive assembly. I'm unsure if this was just a packaging error or this just does not fit this KitchenAid model.

Was sent a Replacement and IT LEAKS!!!!

I was sent a replacement, and guess what? Yep, it sprung a leak in the exact same place as the first one. Followed instructions both times. This last one I was only able to use one time before it failed. STAY AWAY! STAY FAR FAR AWAY!!! There are far better products out there. THIS IS GARBAGE!!!!!!! Had to put 3000 glue over spot to stop leak but it cannot be refrozen or used.

This attachment is the BOMB!!

Justed purchased and brought home. Immediately washed bowl and dasher and put the bowl in the freezer. I made pineapple sorbet according to the recipe in the book that came packaged with the attachment. Following the directions in the book this sorbet came out delicious! Perfect consistency and taste. Topped with a fresh raspberry. Very pretty dessert and I can’t wait to make more.

Not durable like other KitchenAid attachments

I absolutely love my KitchenAid stand mixer and attachments. My mixer itself is 20 years old and still works perfectly. This ice cream maker is not even close to the quality I expected. I purchased it in January when a major department store in our area went out of business. I made ice cream once but noticed that the bowl didn't stay cold enough. I refroze and tried again and that's when I realized that the bow has a hairline crack around the circumference and I had almost no liquid inside to freeze! No wonder it didn't work! The department store has since closed otherwise I would have returned this ice cream maker. I didn't have trouble with the dasher like some other reviewers but I can see how the plastic might not hold up over time. Disappointing coming from the same company that made my mixer that has held up so well over the years. I was expecting a much higher quality ice cream maker.

Not worth the money

I have had my eye on this attachment for a long time now so I finally decided to purchase this icecream maker. I used the chocolate recipe included in the instructions and I ended up with chocolate soup. I separated my custard in two batches because I didn't know how much it would expand. My first batch went in the freezer after 30 minutes and I tried to do the second batch but my bowl had defrosted to much and I had to empty out my now liquid custard and rechill both it and my bowl. After 24 hours I re attempted my icecream. Again I ended up with soft soft soft serve. I own a traditional old fashioned that requires salt and ice and I will go back to using that machine. At least my icecream is icecream not semi goopy sludge. I can't even call what this kitchen aid ice maker makes as soft serve or icecream. So disappointed since this was something I had wanted for such a long time.

Don't always believe what you read

I bought the ice cream attachment about a month ago after deliberating whether to or not. The reviews for one thing really did not promote the product. I have you know that my fist batch of French Vanilla ice cream was a hit! I followed the directions to a T. Especially letting the bowl freeze at the freezer's coldest setting for over 24 hours. And despite one glitch, like heating the batter to a boil when it was supposed to be heated slightly, causing the eggs to cook, giving a curdled appearance. Didn't have cheese cloth on hand so my extra fine colander worked like a charm. Now it is true what they say, serve immediately, for it is much like soft serve. But if you are patient and wait a few hours for it to chill in the freezer.... Perfection! A treat my whole family enjoyed! Bryers and Mayfield has nothing on my ice cream! Can't wait to try Raspberry sorbet!!

Poor Design

I bought the ice cream attachment a few years ago, however I only use it one or two times a year. Recently, I put the attachment in the freezer to "pre-chill" befor using and 24 hour later I found it to be leaking a blue-colored liquid out of a small area near the top of the attachment. The liquid leaked onto the floor of the freezer (see photo). I did go ahead and use it, (and it works fine) but it continues to leak. After reading others' reviews, this appears to be a known problem with these attachments, and hopefully this design has been corrected. While I love my KA stand mixer and other attachements, this one is a dud. I would not recommend purchasing this unless I had assurance that this leaking issue has been addressed.
