Turns shabby into chic!
We used this product on some furniture that was actually in very good condition. We just wanted to update the look of our home to country coastal after we moved. Combined with teals and light blues and greens this product on furniture gives a great look without much labor! I've always done woodworking and step one is normally SAND, not so in this case. I did wipe the project down with a clean rag and some isopropyl to strip any old wax off though the can states that's not even necessary. There is s specific type of round faux horse hair brush that you can get at Walmart that makes application even more professional looking. Simply stir the can for a minute and apply directly to the surface. We laid it on thinly on one table and gave another two coats and distressed the edges with sandpaper. It's not necessary though there ia a wax that comes in black or white which simply rubs on and allows you to from then on spray dust/wax as usual. The black also adds an antiqued look so try an inconspicuous area first. Our dog chewed the leg on an otherwise perfectly fine coffee table and this came to the rescue, otherwise I'd have been filling with wood putty and sanding. Walmart carries a large selection of "chalk" products, give em a try, it's a fun hobby and looks awesome!

Do not waste your time or money
I bought this to refinish a wood vanity and was excited to find a bright white. The chalk paint goes on nicely but as it is drying little specks of blue bleed through the paint. I shook the can before opening and used a paint stick to stir the paint while I was using it. No matter how many coats I applied and where I painted blue specks appeared. I sanded my entire vanity before I painted so I know the blue specks are not from the vanity. I even painted on a different piece of wood and the blue specks appeared on it also. I am extremely disappointed and I have wasted twenty dollars on a can of paint and my time.

Love the paint

I received the KILZ Chalk Style Decorative paint in the color white in exchange for my honest review.

We just recently had to replace the molding around our back door. We purchased our home in 2007 so there has been some wear and tear. After replacing the molding, we tested this paint on the wood surrounding the door. I am not a paint connoisseur, but I was really impressed with the quality of the paint. The paint was really easy to apply, and I was very pleased. We are new to this home improvement stuff, so we did not do any prep work before painting the door and the paint applied seamlessly and even. It doesn't take much for a full coverage finish. One coat coated the door very well, but we went ahead and did a second coat to be on the safe side. This paint dried really fast. The door molding was completely dry after approximately 2 hours. Most paint has very strong fumes; however, this paint did not. I was a little concerned because we do have a small dog. The clean-up was a breeze. The paint easily washed out of the paintbrush. We didn't get much on our clothes but the little we did came out also.

Very thick, covered well

My almost teenage girl decided it was time to update her room to a more mature look now that she's almost a teenager. She decided a grey color would be serious enough. I wasn't sold on the idea, specially when she asked for paint, but I told her that we could make gray an accent color. I got her KILZ Chalk Style Decorative Paint in smoky eyes color because it wasn't too dark nor too bright. She loved the color as soon as it arrived, but I would not let her paint the walls nor the furniture. We went shopping for unfinished accessories instead and let her paint those. Without using any primer, she just started painting. She hand shook the can for a few minutes and it was ready to go, no lumps. She used the clamps that secured the lid to open the lid. The paint was thick enough that it wasn't dripping on her. And she did not need to have a second coat because it covered everything very well. A few things on her desk, dresser, and reading nook are now gray. More painting is needed before she considers her room complete. But I have to admit I do love the color.

Great paint

This paint is great. I repainted my bathroom vanity and it looks great. Went on so smoothly I didn't have to add another coat. So easy to clean up with soap and water Now I'll need to buy a bigger size to paint my daughters dresser that is black. I will try and make it an Emoji theme. I'll post thr after. I highly recommend this.

Kilz Paint

I picked this to do my review on because i had a project to do and only needed a smaller can of paint .I purchase a old wood chair at a estate sale and painted it with the Kiltz chalk paint turned out awesome , i didn't even have to double coat it. This paint CAN BE APPLIED OVER MOST FINISHES WITH LITTLE TO NO PREPARTION , I didn't have to prime or double coat my chair and it was originally a mustard yellow. Paint covered the first time and i have enough left to do a few more small projects . dry's in one hour and up to 100 square feet coverage soap and water clean up .

Looks great, easy to use!

Even though we live in a small, rural town, there are many furniture and home decor manufacturers. Small workshop-type factories filled with friendly workers, creating American-made furnishings. Nearly all are made and sold with "aged" finishes, to give them a reclaimed-wood finish. So, last year during the holidays, my friend (an owner) said he needed some extra help, and I joined in. I ended up working in the paint and finishing department for many weeks, creating the finishes that people pay thousands upon thousands of dollars for. Among other things, I learned that when you're going for an aged look, it's hard to do anything that's actually "wrong," so long as you completely finish the work when you're done, either with a rub-on wax or a brushed or sprayed varnish of some kind.

So, based on my experience, I was excited to try this out. To my delight, with this chalk paint, not only can you not-go-wrong, it is very easy to use. When you use this chalk paint, first make sure the wood is free of dust, grease, or other things likely to wipe off in the future (taking the paint with it). And then... you paint. That's it. Super easy. Clean up with water. The paint tends to cover very well and go a long way, too, although I could imagine a need for a second coat in some unusual circumstances, as with all paints/prior finishes.

The best-case use for these is probably when refinishing furniture -- literally reclaiming wood or furniture. When replacing wood finishes, you normally need to strip the wood of any paints and varnishes up front; sanding is hard work, while the highly combustible chemical approach to stripping wood is arduous at best, and dangerous in many circumstances including in enclosed spaces or during pregnancy. Plus, if there is much detail to the wood, it can be nearly impossible to do completely.

To my mind, the smokey eyes color we got fits contemporary-to-modern decor, with the farmhouse style really ideal for chalk paints, generally. This shade might be best when you're looking for a darker neutral which still comes across with a pleasant-yet-noticeable impact of color. It would also work well with a contrasting color (say, a white) painting underneath, or on top, and then doing some easy, light sanding after it dries, to allow the colors to merge into a pleasantly uneven farmhouse-style look. Remember to add a finish when you're done, like wax or varnish, afterward.

Pink

The kilz chalk style decorative paint looks like regular paint. I ordered and received the cameo coral. If you're looking for pink, this is your color. I expected something a little bit more coral as the name suggested. For a kilz product, it took several coats to cover the tan paint that was on the wall. It also took several coats to cover a spot where I decided to get creative and then changed my mind. In that aspect I was pretty disappointed. However, it does look nice (for pink). I have only had it on the wall a couple days so not sure the duration of the paint life or if it stands up to younger children yet. Make sure to check out the pictures.

KILZ Chalk Paint

I have always wanted to paint my wall with chalk paint when it first came out but I never could afford it. Now with this quart of Kilz chalkboard paint that I get to try for free from Walmart Spark Reviewer I will be able to do just anything small in my house. Like for instance I have this glass book shelf that holds my books and movies in it. I can do each of the sides of it with this quart of chalkboard paint. I am super excited. It says on the container it takes and hour to dry and 2 hours to re-coat it. It's very simple to use. It says to apply 1 to 2 coats of this chalk paint on a clean surface or lightly sanded surface and dust free. Just make sure that whatever you are going to use this on that it is smooth. That it is clean of dust, peeling paint, mold, mildew, stains, rust and any other dirt or debris. You can use it on wood, cast stone, concrete or metal surfaces and you can even use Kilz Clear Sealing Wax to enhance durability. and you can even make it look old fashion or antique look by using the Kilz Dark Sealing Wax. Make sure to read all instructions before each use of it all. Thank you Walmart Spark Reviewer for letting me get to try this for free. I am adding a couple pictures on here. I have added a paint brush in one of the pictures. This chalk paint does not come with a paint brush. You can't really see it too well on the picture but it is a light coral color!

NICE KILZ DECORATIVE PAINT THIS IS :)

I BOUGHT A WOOD WALL PLATE TO PAINT IT IN WHITE I AM DOING A DIY PROJECT TO DAZZLE IT UP MORE NICER THE ROOM. I STILL HAVE TO BUY A POLISH BECAUSE THIS KILZ PAINT HAS NO SHINE TO IT AT ALL. THIS PAINT HAS NO STRONG ODOR NEITHER PLUS IT DRIES PRETTY FAST AS WELL TOO. I USED A SPONGE BRUSH TO PAINT MY WALL PLATE THE PAINT COMES OFF EASY WHEN YOUR'S RINSING IT WITH WATER I LOVE THAT. I DO RECOMMEND THIS KILZ PAINT IT WORKS WELL ON WOOD, YES YOU WILL HAVE TO GIVE IT MORE THEN 1 COAT OF PAINT SO IT GOES THREW THE WOOD GOOD AND IT DON'T LOOK DULL. I FIND THIS PAINT NOT TO BE THICK NOR THIN IT'S JUST RIGHT FOR THE USE I NEED THIS KILZ PAINT FOR. I FIND FOR THE PRICE TO BE A LITTLE HIGH BUT OVER ALL THIS PAINT WORKS PRETTY GOOD. Nice color

KILZ Chalk Style Decorative Paint is for use on new wood, cast stone, concrete or properly prepared metal surfaces. It is suggested that it is not used on horizontal areas with foot traffic as that will scuff up and ruin the paint job. This paint goes on as a matte and has a chalky look. While this paint can be applied on surfaces with little to no prep, the downside is that you need to seal it with a wax afterwards if you want a vintage or distressed antique look. It dries quickly to the touch within one to two hours and then you can apply a second coat. It goes on really thick and provides nice coverage. One quart of this paint will cover about one hundred square feet. This paint can also be used as a chalkboard paint. You will just need to use a darker color to contrast the chalk along with a base coat primer. The color I have is called Platinum Ring. It is a very light gray or silver color and it looks nice on my sample projects that I have however I like more of a gloss to semi-gloss look. Overall, this paint is nice but after all the things you will need to purchase to create the intended affect such as distressing or a vintage look, I would say it is not cost effective. Would I choose to get this in the future? Probably not but if you don't mind all the extra steps you need to achieve the desired look, then this is a nice paint. There are many tutorials you can look up in order to see how to use this and what all you can do with it.

1. Hi Ade, thanks for writing in with your question. Our Chalk Paint is not chalkboard paint. I suggest asking your local store for a recommendation on the right chalkboard paint to use for your project. Have a great day! -Giovanna

1. Hi Steve, The spread rate of each container is 60-100 sq ft. As it turns out, we don't recommend our paint on fabric surfaces because they're too flexible for our paint to adhere properly. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. ~Doris
