Same product as New Air's but $100 cheaper!!!

This product is excellent. I had the white Magic Chef but it broke after 3 months. It had developed a pinhole in the evaporator at a weld joint and without service ports it became useless. Anyway, I took a chance on the Igloo and couldn't be happier that I did. This unit is nice! As in looks, stainless steel, all the way around, beautiful. They have now used a more efficient compressor that only uses 120 watts. You can barely tell it's running. The fan on the side is all you hear, and it's minimal, until the defrost cycle and the ice drops. No louder than a regular ice machine on your refrigerator. This is the EXACT same unit that New Air sells for 100 dollars more. I can't speak for its longevity as I have not had it for more than a couple days (spitting out ice for 48 hours straight now), but if it is anything in build quality like the outside of the machine, I have no doubt about having it for a long time. As stated, I've had the Magic Chef, and I can see the design improvements. I couldn't be happier. The pictures online do not do it justice so I will provide my own. Can't wait to take this camping.

This was purchased for our summer vacation home. We have one at our main home that looks identical, but different brand. We are very happy with this purchase. It works just like our other one that we have had for several years. I highly recommend this product.

I rate this ice maker good because it serves the purpose that we bought it for. We bought if for use in our RV but our ice maker went out in our refrigerator freezer. It makes enough ice in an hour or a little over for 2 people to use for three or four days on the recommended fill line. We has visitors last weekend and we had plenty of ice for eight of us and there was enough for 3 days after. The only thing I don't like is that the ice sticks together when you put it in the freezer but a 3 pronged ice pick breaks it up nicely. It is sure better than having to buy ice until we get our ice maker in our refrigerator freezer repaired. We will most likely use it anyway at home when we have company and of course in our RV.

Whatever you do, don't buy this icemaker. I bought it from Walmart.com on 11/26/13. Approximately 6 months later, it failed. I called for warranty repair and was told that after shipping it back at my cost, it would be 8-10 weeks until it was repaired. I shipped it back on 6/23/14 and they received it on 6/25/14. Eighteen weeks later, I realized that it had not been returned. I called their customer service. I was told that it had never been received. I advised them that I had proof of delivery. They told me to call them back in eight days and they would have an answer. I told them that I was the customer and that it was their responsibility to call me. Today, more than nineteen weeks after it was returned, I received a new, but smaller, cheaper model. I had purchased an extended warranty on the specific model and serial number. I don't know how that will work out. Never buy anything from Curtis International in Plainfield, IN. (Curtis is apparently the importer.)

    • A. Yes, just wouldn't leave it in direct sunlight. It's not a freezer so your ice will melt quicker if not used promptly even though it would continue to recycle the melted ice.

    • A. The tray is meant to be lifted out. But is needed inside the machine to catch the made ice cubes. So you only take the tray out to fill the container you'll be using for the ice cubes you've made.

    • A. Yes it does, but the ice is wet so if you put it in the freezer it will all freeze together as a solid block. Not really very good if your intention is to make ice to use it at a later time.
