My air conditioner was not as cold as I thought it should be so I bought some r134a and put it in to the pressure according to gauge. It lasted for over a year but a year later and again it wasn't as cold as it should have been. I decided there must be a slow leak so to fix it right I needed to find the source of the leak. I've always heard that the ultra violet dye was the easiest way to find a leak for a DIY. I bought this product and followed the directions... tipping the can back and forth to ensure the contents was well mixed during installation. The problem is that during installation you must be careful because as you press the button to release the contents it leaks around the button and the r134a gets extremely cold on the finger not to mention it also leaks a bit at the hose fitting, not the actual adapter connector but the hose connected to the adapter. Now the messy part is that during all this you probably will not notice the dye unless you have a ultra violet light focused at the site. What you find after the installation with the ultra violet light is that the contest has sprayed everywhere... it's on your hand and everything you touched while still wet and there's spray all around the fitting area and the ultra violet lights up the dye as intended to find any possible leak. I'm sure it will clean up (which I haven't done yet) but it is quite messy. The other thing that I have to wonder about is that it hasn't shown any sign of a leak and I will keep checking it. Since it is or was a slow leak it may not be detectable since this product also has a sealer. I was hoping that I would be able to find the problem and fix it right, I'm not a fan of sealers but time will tell if this was the way to diagnose the problem. I will say for $9.68 it is a very inexpensive option. I would recommend this product as long as you understand that this will probably be a bit messy but it also may be the solution to finding a leak.
