My daughters enjoy this cute, eye-opening biography, I am Amelia Earhart, about the famous aviator who set many records as a female pilot. It’s told in first person, by “Amelia” herself. My children loved the makeshift roller coaster/slide she built as a young child, and are learning that sometimes ideas, which may not sound like a good idea to doubters, may be the “best idea” for you. I really appreciate that it points out that Earhart wasn’t a natural pilot, but she enjoyed flying and worked harder than others until she was one of the best ever.

About This Item
“Kids always search for heroes, so we might as well have a say in it,” Brad Meltzer realized, and so he envisioned this friendly, fun approach to biography – for his own kids, and for yours. Each book tells the story of one of America’s icons in an entertaining, conversational way that works well for the youngest nonfiction readers, those who aren’t quite ready for the Who Was series. Each book focuses on a particular character trait that made that role model heroic. For example, Amelia Earhart refused to accept no for an answer; she dared to do what no one had ever done before, and became the first woman to fly a plane all the way across the Atlantic Ocean. This book follows her from childhood to her first flying lessons and onward to her multi-record-breaking career as a pilot.
This engaging series is the perfect way to bring American history to life for young children, and to inspire them to strive and dream.

Cute and informative!
I really thought this ...
I really thought this book was cool, and I like how it is part of a series. Biographies for young students never seem interesting and this kind of book I thought would capture the interest of students. The pictures in this book are really fun, and there are character talking bubbles included. Women power is a theme of this book as well as determination.
Summary: This book is ...
Summary: This book is about Amelia Earhart a first female pilot who flew across the Atlantic Ocean. It has alot of information about her and how she realized her dreams and entered the world history. Personal reaction: I think this is great book to read to kids and how even as female you can do anything you put your mind too. Classroom extension ideas: 1. The class could read this book during a history lesson about Amelia Earhart. 2. The class could make thier own paper airplane.
