This is my first time to use a Hot Tools product. I am really impressed with this Signature Series flat iron. First of all, I like the purple color (a nice change from the black one I had). It's comfortable to hold. However, the controls on the side are in the area where you may grip the flat iron. Just take note that you could possibly increase or decrease the temperature accidentally.
When I first plugged in the flat iron, the LCD lit up blue with “Off” flashing on and off. As mentioned above, the control buttons are located on the left side of the handle. To turn the iron on, you press and hold the power button until you see a temperature displayed. (I really like this feature because you can't accidentally turn it on.) After turning it on, you may then adjust the temperature up or down. Once the desired temperate is reached, the display will turn from blue to green. The manual even has a chart with suggested heat temperatures depending on the type of hair. This flat iron heats up quickly! And, it can get as hot as 450 degrees in under a minute. A couple of other attributes include the automatic shut-off after 2 hours and the 8-foot cord that swivels (hallelujah!).
The heated ceramic plates smooth out my frizzes and straighten my errant waves. This flat iron uses “Pulse” technology which means that the temperature remains steady – no ups and downs. I love the way my hair shines and the silky feel. I've attached pictures of my first attempt using the iron. On this try, I set the temperature at 300 degrees. On a subsequent session, I bumped up the temperature to 340 degrees. I liked the results better and cut the time dramatically. So, you may play around a bit to find the right temperature for you.
I'm so happy with this line of products, I am planning on purchasing more. I want to try a smaller size flat iron. This one is too large to use to curl my short, above the shoulder, hair. That's not a reflection of the product, I am the one who chose the size I have, which is the 1 ½-inch.
