Buy another brand without cycle rates.
It is programmed to cycle in ten minute interval, and the inside house temp indicator is not true, inside temp will show what ever the set temp is. Buy a Robertshaw thermostat with differential temp setting, that way it will show the true inside temp. Call the company and ask them which ones have the differential temp setting without cycling.

Excellent product

Works exactly as described. Very easy to install. Simple and straight forward instructions. I was replacing a older Honeywell thermostat with mercury switches and this new one works flawless. Couldn't be happier

Honeywell Thermostat Great Value and Service

I bought this Honeywell Thermostat to replace the old one just like it. The old one was 20 years old. The Honeywell Thermostat is easy to install and operate. Great value for years of reliable service.

Easy Install / Worked with my HeatPump

Had some concerns as to whether it would work with my system after reading reviews. When it came in, I compared the wires on both the new and old. My Janitrol Heat Pump had 7 wires and instead of an Aux wire, it had one labeled W2. the new one had 9 wire connectors. Looking at the installation booklet it said call cooler/heat specialist if the letters didn't match. I did call to verify that it would work with my system. Tech support was very helpful and made sure he understood what I was asking. After talking to him, the entire installation took 20 min... one reason it took so long was that I decided to paint the area under the thermostat. It worked great! Loved the way the wires connect: instead of having to wrap them around the screw, they just slide straight down into the connectors and tighten screws. I love it and am glad I decided to go ahead and order it!

Easy install save money do yourself!!!

My old thermostat died as I could no longer set the temperature. Obviously a heat pump type because of the settings so I matched up the old to this one with the same settings available. My old one has 6 wires this new one has 9 connections available. I did my homework to find out having an AC place come out and replace would be well over $200. Yes they provide their own thermostat obviously jacked up the price 2X or 3X times plus install equals big bucks so why not try myself? The instructions even provide a listing for any possible non match labels which mine did. The only reason it took me a while is because my wires are very stiff and were hard to set into the very tiny screw holes that are lined up side by side very close together on this new one. Other than that it was easy. Just match up the connection labels from old thermostat to the new one. I thought if I couldn't do it and had to call some AC outfit at least I saved in the cost of the thermostat and would only have to pay for the install. Not mentioned is that you still need 2 AA batteries which I already had in my old one. I did it myself and saved money. It works fine.

Good Digital Replacement

After years of fighting with old analog thermostats and having seen this model in use at my Elks Lodge, I decided to take the plunge. The instructions were simple yet sufficiently detailed for me to connect these to my Janitrol heat pump systems, one upstairs and one downstairs, in less than an hour. They work great, and there is no more guessing at where the temperature is set! I don't know what the 'Y' is at the beginning of the model number on the Walmart model, but when you receive the unit, it is a normal Honeywell RTH3100C.

Great T stat

I bought 3 t stats before this one. This one was the best and the easiest to install. Honeywell's customer service is just like everyone elses (terrible) cant understand a word they say.

Easy to install by homeowner

I bought this thermostat because of the battery backup. Our old thermostat did not have a backup and the setting would not hold after a power outage. The instructions are fairly easy to understand, but the wiring may take some experimentation. Our 16 year old existing thermostat had a terminal labeled O/B, which was not covered in the new instructions. I put that wire in the O terminal of the new thermostat and the heat pump came on when the A/C should have. Switched it to the B terminal and the A/C works fine. Haven't used it in heat mode yet.

Proper thermostat for heat pumps

This is a proper thermostat for heat pumps - not all thermostats work right with heat pumps. Only problem so far with it is that the temperature display reads about 3-4 degrees too high, which according to tech support is within design tolerance.

Heat Pump Thermostat - NOT for all heat pumps.

Purchased this thermostat which says "for use with heat pump systems only" but what it doesn't tell you is it doesn't work with single stage heat pump. Before buying this product look at your old thermostat...if it only has 4 wires, then this thermostat WILL NOT work on your heat pump system.

1. this unit snaps onto the base with friction holding it in place. firmly grasp the front part of the unit and quickly jerk it away from the wall and the battery compartment is on the back.
by RobertoEspinosa
2. The cover pulls off from the bottom. It's tight, but it will pop off, and the two AA batteries are inside the cover.
by 96Miata
3. To replace the batteries in the Honeywell YRTH3100C1011 you have to remove the thermostat from the subbase that holds it to the wall. Once the thermostat is off the subbase, turn it over and you should see the batteries right at the top. You can also access complete instructions on replacing the batteries in the Owner's Guide, for the Honeywell YRTH3100, which can be found at the following link: https://customer.honeywell.com/resources/techlit/TechLitDocuments/69-0000s/69-2339EFS.pdf.
by Honeywell Support
4. just pop it off the wall or use a flat bladed screwdriver to pry it apart. If it was installed properly the base will stay on the wall. The battery compartment will be in the case part that pops off in your hand. Replace batteries and snap it back on the wall.

1. The Honeywell RTH3100C requires 2 AA batteries to power the microprocessor in it.
by Honeywell Support
2. it should work without batteries, the batteries just keep the display working during a power failure.
by RobertoEspinosa
3. Batteries are not required, but they will allow the thermostat to retain its settings in a power failure.
by 96Miata
4. Not if you have a dedicated power wire.

1. E M Heat is simply emergency heat. It would be what you would use if your heat pump would become inoperable. It bypasses the pump and allows you to use the heat strips in your furnace like a normal furnace.
by joker1271
2. I assume you mean emergency heat setting, that activates the auxiliary heating unit within your heat pump and should only be used if the heat pump can't keep up on a cold day.
by RobertoEspinosa
3. Emergency heat. It allows you to keep your house warm in the event of a heat pump failure, but because it is pure electric heat, it can get expensive!
by 96Miata
4. The Honeywell YRTH3100C1011 system switch has four positions. From left to right, they are: Cool, Off, Heat, and Em Heat. The SYSTEM switch allows you thermostat to be set to control your heating or cooling system, depending on the season. The function of each position is: • Cool: Cooling system control. • Off: All systems are off. • Heat: Heating system control. • Em Heat: Emergency & Auxiliary Heat control. Compressor is locked out.
