After FINALLY getting the hatcimals just a few days before Christmas, I was anxious and excited for Christmas morning. My 5 year old screamed with excitement! The reaction I was hoping for. We took it out of the box. The eyes lit up, It started making noise immediately. We followed the color codes. Pet, nurtured, patted, "fed" it etc ... after about 35-40 mins we heard a "peck". Once again following the color codes , it turned and pecked, turned and pecked, when it stopped we'd tap the egg and it would continue its great Escape. We removed bits of shell as it went along. It took a little while, probably another 40 mins for the hatching process. Then we help lift off the top shell, broke apart the bottom half released it from the base and listened as it sang/chirped the "Happy birthday" song <3 Patience was the key. But it was fun. My oldest daughter is wanting one now to hatch!

Broken before it could even hatch
The hatchimal egg was slightly split open at the seams. It would not hatch on its own even after hours of play. After we broke the animal out manually it completely died. We replaced the batteries and it turned back on. And now it seems to be stuck in the baby stage and keeps replaying the happy birthday song. Spinmaster has been really good about replacing the hatchimal. They are shipping a new one out and we should have it in a few days. It won't be a Burtle, but we will take what we can get at this point.

Different and Fun!

My granddaughter loved this! I bought it for her birthday because she had asked for it. I'm so glad that I found it online because they were all out in stores. Great toy and fun for adults also! We couldn't stop watching for what stage was next! Awesome!!!

My kids love it

You should have seen my kids faces when they got these as an early holiday presents. The screaming and excitement was through the roof. They've been playing with them non-stop for a week now. Happy kids = happy parents :)

Adorable & Fun

Watched youtube videos on these and thought they would be great for Christmas Presents for grandkids. Bought them and they will hatch on Christmas Eve!!

Fun for all

A wonderful birthday gift for a ten yr. old little girl. Just what my niece wanted. So happy. Note: be mindful of small pieces with younger children and pets.

Nice idea but needs work.

The one I received had trouble hatching. For some reason it was in the hatching mode but it never started to turn in it's shell. It was stuck. Had to cut it out. Have read other reviews where they had similar issues. We made the best of it and called it our emergency egg-section.

So much fun!

This toy was the star of the show at my daughters 7th birthday. Kids and parents were very intrigued! The only con would be that the stages don't last very long. We are on stage 4 of 5 and we've only had it for one afternoon. I'm worried that she will move onto stage 5 and then lose interest.

Fun, interactive toy

My daughter loves anything animal related and loves hatching eggs of any kind! She played with the egg non stop for about 20 minutes before it states to hatch. Hatching took quite a while so she helped it along a bit by picking at the egg. A child would have to have an insane amount of patience to stick with this until it fully hatched. Once hatched the animal was adorable and very interactive. At each level (baby, toddler, kid) there are fun things to do with it. She doesn't play with t quite as often as she did when it first hatched, but still quite often. My daughter is 4, almost 5. This toy was for her. My younger child is 2 and thought it was super cool at first, but lost interest very quickly. I would recommend this toy to parents with children age 4/5 and older.

Great idea, doesn't live up to the hype

I bought this for my 6 year old niece for her birthday and snagged two more for my 6 year old daughters for Christmas. After massaging and patting this thing for 30 minutes and following it's color codes from the instructions, it finally started to hatch which was cool at first, but it kept going to sleep. Sometimes we could get it to peck again, sometimes we couldn't. After an hour, I broke it out of the egg. Once it's hatched you still need to follow the directions based on what color its eyes are. Not very good for kids that don't really read yet and just want to play. I really want to return the other two, but my kids swear they still want them. I don't know why. This will be in a pile next to the furbys two weeks after Christmas, I guarantee it.

1. Anything around the $50-60 price (toys r us might be a bit more) is the normal cost of the item. Anything in the over $100 range is probably being sold by a third party vendor, and in my option not worth the cost. The only difference between the toy is what they look like. They all do the same things!

2. 15-30 minutes

1. Once the egg is broken(it might need some help with parts of the shell) it comes out by picking it up.
by CommunityAnswer
2. The creature snaps off a base. The egg is then discarded.
