This is much better than I expected! The waffles are HUGE, fluffy, and cook perfectly! Just from looking at it, it doesn't seem like it would make such big waffles. I purchased this mainly because of the price, removable plates, and easier storage. I also liked the variable temperature dial on it (like a toaster). Plus, I've purchased kitchen electronics from Hamilton Beach before and I've always been satisfied. I'm very happy with my purchase; I hope it lasts a long time. My only complaint (minor) is that you have to set it to the highest setting (3) for the waffles to have any crispiness on the outside. Even then, they need to sit for a few minutes after the 'ready' light to really get a bit of brown on it.

Excellent waffles, great features,
Great product that's easy to use.
This was an early birthday gift requested by my soon to be 8 year old granddaughter. We got it for her early since they are off school because of the COVID-19 stay home order. She told me they had to wait 2 days after receiving it because it was in “quarantine” in the garage. But on the third day they made waffles that were “perfect”. They were so perfect, that they were devoured by her brothers as soon as they hit the plate. Two days later they made a quadruple batch, so they would have leftovers for Sunday and they were again awesome.
Perfect waffle iron with removable grids!
My quest for the perfect waffle iron is finally over! I've been searching for removable grids for easy cleaning for a long while and this is the one. Makes delicious waffles that don't stick, perfect every time with 1 cup of batter. You only add a little oil on the grids for the first time you use it, seasoning them. I never added any spray oil or liquid oil since on the non-stick surface, even after running the grids through the dishwasher. Lights work great to let you know when it's hot enough to add the batter, flip it, and when ready the other light comes on. Makes them fast and easy for many waffles one after the other for a large family or gathering. The drip tray is great for when you add a little too much batter, and it cleans up with ease. I also like the folding handle for storage in my kitchen cabinet. I've used a recipe for whole wheat waffles, and I've also bought the boxed whole grain waffle mix. Both turned out delicious, so you can't go wrong. The instruction manual doesn't come with any recipes, so have one ready before you pick up your new waffle iron. One last thing, I really like how you can select how dark/crispy you want your waffle, comes in really handy for all the different preferences/requests. I love my Hamilton Beach waffle iron!
The Hamilton Beach Flip Belgian Waffle Maker makes the perfect waffles. The Grids are divided into four triangle sections and they are about 2 inches thick, depending on how much batter you use. If you overfill the Grids, there is a drip tray to catch any spills, and the tray is also removable. It has 1,2,3 settings and when the desired heat is met, the light will turn green. The Grids can be removed and washed, a great feature. You can use the handle to flip over the Grids to have a more even cook. The frozen waffles does not compare to the real deal.
Terrific unit for a first timer
After reading sooo many reviews, I settled on the Hamilton Beach Flip Waffle maker. When I got it, I read the instructions and followed them. I sprayed PAM on the removable grids and wiped them down. Then I made my batter the night before and put in the fridge. The next morning I made my first batch and believe me it came out better than a restaurant. I was amazed. The next morning I made batch #2 and they came out better than the first batch. The book says each time it gets better. I can't wait for the next time I make them. Price and quality from Hamilton Beach. KUDOS to them as they continue to make great products.
Looks great, cooks great
This product is a great compromise between economy and performance. A commercial waffle iron cost up to 200 bucks, but this little thing makes your waffles just as well as any more expensive alternative for a fraction of the cost. It takes about 3 minutes to get a great crispy on the outside soft and fluffy on the inside waffle. I'm very pleased.
Best Waffles I've Ever Had
I've used this almost every day since I bought it. Makes excellent waffles. Unlike most waffle makers, the removable grids make clean-up quite easy-just pop them out and wash in the sink or even the dishwasher. If you couldn't remove the grids, I doubt you'd ever get the waffle maker really clean. Waffles are cooked just right: golden brown and slightly crunchy on the outside, soft and moist on the inside. I set the control at the "2" position and cook a waffle for about 4 1/2 minutes and it's just perfect. I've tried two different waffle mixes and a made-from-scratch batter, and they all work well. I prefer Krusteaz Belgian Waffle mix, but the even easier Hungry Jack mix (just add water) makes acceptable waffles. What could be better? The control could have an "off" position so you could turn off the waffle maker without unplugging it. Not a big deal, just room for improvement. One of the best counter-top appliances I've bought.
Good Waffle Maker
I purchased this waffle maker because it has removable plates that are dishwasher safe. Have used it a few times and noticed a couple of drawbacks. Its highest temperature setting only produces medium waffles not well done crisp ones. Also, the plates heat unevenly producing waffles that are more done in the back and less done in the front. But for its price, it produces pretty good waffles. I just use a separate timer to get them as done as I like them.
Works great for my application.
I find the waffle maker takes 6-8 minutes per waffle. But, I typically make my waffles ahead of time, stack them and pop them in the toaster oven to finish them off as I serve them. Really nice. There is a "Bald" spot at the top of the waffle, which doesn't have the heat element present, horse shoe shaped elements. I tend to flip the waffle 3/4 through to get that side to cook through. This is done after the ready light comes on. The removable plates are great. It makes cleaning blueberry laden surfaces easy to do. I also use a timer in conjunction with the light. I tend to make a more thin batter, and may have excessive moisture, but that's just me. All in all, seems to do a good job. I also place a plastic flexible cutting board behind the unit when I spray no-stick on the plates, as it tends to fall on objects behind the machine.
Flip waffle maker by Hamilton Beach
First waffle did not brown well and was a bit flat. They indicated in literature that browning would improve on subsequent waffles. 2nd one was better on the browning and reasonable as was the 3rd waffle that day. Using waffle mix from Sams club and waffle next day stuck and came apart. Third day I used it I oiled the non stick again per instructions and waffle was again bit flat and not brown. I eat waffles every day and purchased this one for the removable grids. However, due to removable grids, warm up time is excessive since heater is not attached to grid. And end product is barley acceptable. Probably will throw it in the trash. I have used Waring Pro before and my only complaint with them is I wear them out in couple years.
