I used our brand new electric knife for the first time two days ago on Thanksgiving. This may be the worst kitchen appliance I've ever used. Yes, it cuts, but because it's difficult to grasp and manuever, we ended up shredding quite a bit of turkey while trying to slice it. My chief complaint is with the design of the body. It tapers toward the blade. That means that if your hands are the least bit wet or slippery (you're handling food so what would you expect?), it's impossible to grasp the neck of this thing and squeeze the trigger without your hand sliding forward. Eventually, your hand will be so far forward that you're squeezing the trigger with your third finger. It doesn't feel natural, it's out of balance, and it's awkward to try to use that grip to position the blade where you want it. I eventually wrapped the body of the knife in a towel to keep it from sliding and had to contend with a piece of fabric dangling into the food. I don't think I've ever seen a knife with a handle that tapers toward the blade like this. None of this occurred to me when I tried it out after I bought it a week ago. I figured that if it worked out of the box and lasted a few years, it was worth $20. It isn't. It's a very bad design.

This was just a terrible product. It comes with a bread slicer, which i didn't use, but i used it to slice turkey and it was a disaster. Even though the blades oscillate back and forth it just wouldn't cut. I even tried sawing back and forth as i was cutting and it still didn't work. Couldn't cut a slice of turkey to save my life. I had small pieces of turkey coming through the small gap between the blades as i cut, what a mess. I read the reviews on Amazon and most were positive but there were also a few bad ones like mine. Are some people being paid for there positive reviews? I rarely write reviews but i thought this knife was so bad i had to write. I wish some company would revive the Sonic Knife, which was an "as seen on tv" product. The rechargeable battery was the issue as i would not hold a charge very long. When it was new and worked it was the best electric knife i ever owned.

I needed to replace a very old Hamilton Beach knife that was broken, and it wasn't easy to find one that met my needs. This one met my needs with respect to price and with respect to taking up little space when in its storage case. However, the release button is on the top of the knife, where I need to be able to grip it. When I move my hand to the rear part of the grip, my hand begins to hurt. I've used the knife to cut up a fresh pineapple (excellent#, and a preformed, processed turkey breast #acceptable). The model I purchased came with a meat fork and a bread slicing guide, both of which I may use in the future. I will be keeping this product because I haven't seen another one that meets my price and space requirements. If I found one that was better designed ergonimally, I would pay more for it, but until I find it, I'll be keeping this one.

Awkward knife

I received this knife as a gift. Before I used it, I threw my old electric knife that I had used for 30 years away. Boy, was that a mistake. This one is awkward to handle and control and has flimsy blades. And I was only cutting bread not meat! Can't imagine how I will be able to carve a roast with this knife.

Had a Proctor Silex knife for twenty years that I loved. Had to replace it and could only find this one. I hate it. The box is very difficult to open, the handle is awkward and uncomfortable to grip, the blades are flimsy. I am looking for a different brand.

My advise is pick another one. I am trying to find another knife to replace this one, and its practically new. The blades are very flimsy, and almost bend. I threw the case out after the third use. You have to literally fight with it to get it to open. This knife is so NOT user friendly.

I decided to make new cushions for couch but I needed to cut the foam to fit . I thought we still had our old electric knife but could not find it to no avail. So I needed a new one... We hated that old one so I guess that is why we got rid of it... So I ordered this one after reading the reviews...The price was right.... I got it home and gave it a test drive... And it worked perfectly ! It is much smaller then our old one and easier to use and it cut beautifully... So hubby will use it to cut meats too because I do not know how many times I will be making new cushions for couch. :) I recommend it highly .

I bought this product sight unseen but I am very glad I did. I will use it a few times per month but it works well in slicing bread and also on meats. I hope it lasts as long as my previous electric knife - 33 years.

HORRIBLE -- won't even cut bread

We got a Hamilton Beach electric knife set, pulled it out at Thanksgiving to carve the turkey -- and found it wouldn't. I ended up grabbing one of our regular kitchen knives to do the job. Then a few days later I tried to cut a loaf of bread and the knife hardly cut through. Figured it must be a fluke...somehow we just got a set with a dull blade. So we got another Hamilton Beach electric knife set. Baked up a loaf of bread and went to cutting. Same thing! The knife barely made it through. It was so bad my wife finished up cutting the loaf with a regular bread knife. DON"T BUY ONE OF THESE! They are worthless.

  • A. One short blade I had a set like you are referring to that had a long blade for big things like Turkeys along with a short blade more suited to bread or roast. Loved it and wore the thing out after several years. Boy oh boy was I dissapointed when we got this one and it wouldn't even cut through a loaf of bread without a lot of effort!

  • A. the thickness of the blade(s) are less than 1/4" combined and no...it will not cut s tyro foam or rubber foam, it will only chew them up just as any other serrated knife will. it's best to use a straight edge when cutting up any foams whether it be s tyro or rubber.
