for the price, I like it
by -
I ordered this as a novelty thing, to be used sparingly. I've had it about a month since delivery, finally opened the box tonight for some onion rings (not frozen). I like it for the price, but have two complaints I feel like I should share. 1) pushing the "open" button pretty much flings the cover back. I don't fry indoors, but I still don't want to tip the unit over outside with hot oil. I realized this halfway through the first batch of rings, and was okay, but still.....needs to be pointed out. 2) the min/max line isn't anywhere close to appropriate. I filled to the min line, it was a bottle of canola oil. first basket of rings stuck to the basket. after prying the rings off the basket, losing half of the batter, I filled to the max line from another bottle of canola oil. I still had issues with things sinking and sticking to the basket, and there was never a risk of the oil bubbling over. I intend to experiment (safely!) with the oil volume, and will report back. but operating off the marked lines was not optimal.

HAMILTON BEACH DEEP FRYER
by -
I HAD THIS FRYER FOR ABOUT 4 YEARS, USING IT AT LEAST 3 TIMES A WEEK. FRYING FROM FRENCH FRIES, FISH PORK CHOPS , ANYTHING FRYABLE. I LOVE IT. LAST NIGHT IT WENT ON THE BLINK. I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. WHEN CLEANING IT, IT USE TO TAKE A WHILE BEFORE IT CAN BE USED AGAIN. THIS TIME IT DIDN'T GET HOT AGAIN. ANYWAY, JUST ORDERED ANOTHER ONE. LOVE IT.

This is a really good fryer
by -
I was a little alarmed by the negative review I saw here. So I gave mine a workout the day it arrived. This was a replacement for my Presto Cool Daddy fryer. This one is much more robust. The temperature control is a nice upgrade. It takes about 10 minutes to heat to oil to 375, filled to the max fill line. The outside wall does get warm to the touch. It feels like around 95 degrees. It's not so hot that you can't place you hand on. It's enough that you notice it, but I don't think it's anything to worry about. If you fill the oil to the max fill line, the oil will cover about 2/3rds of the basket. I'm, pretty sure it's supposed to work this way. If the oil ran all the way to the top, It will boil over dropping the basket with frozen food. This would cause a bad fire hazard. The oil will cover enough fries for about 2-3 servings, if filled to the max fill line. I didn't have any issues with the lid, as I saw some people had in other reviews. You do have to push down on a particular spot to close it. That spot comes marked on the lid. The device is not the sturdiest I've ever seen. But for something that sits on a flat surface on the counter, it stands up to daily use. This model is really easy to clean. The main reservoir, and the basket go right in the dishwasher. The heating element comes right out, and is the only part I wash by hand. This unit passed the french fry test with flying colors. At 375 for 5 minutes, the fries were crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside. For best results I recommend thawing and frozen food before frying. I think the issues I had with previous fryer were the oil didn't get hot enough. I really like this fryer especially if you're only cooking for one or two people. The only other accessory you'll need is a funnel and cheese cloth to recycle your oil.

Hamilton Beach Deep Fryer

This is the best deep fryer on the market. It heats the oil very quickly and the temperature stays constant throughout the cooking time. I like the easy clean up and the fact that the outside of the fryer does not get hot.

Horrible
by -
My son bought this deep fat fryer for me, because it was suppose to be cool to the touch. It's not, granted it doesn't get as hot as most of them, but it gets hot enough that you can't hold your hand on the side. My lid would never open when you pushed the buttom, you had to take the tip of a knife and lift the lid right beside the basket handle. My lid has already come off and I can't get it on to stay. The oil level isn't high enough to cook more than a half an inch of food in the basket. The booklet says fill the basket full with french fries, but if you do that, the oil never touches the top fries.
