You offer the 9411A, G, and N versions at signifcant price differences but I can't tell the difference between the specifications. What am I missing

  • A. Actually the PLUS HP8600 also scans and copies and faxes on both sides of the paper, i.e. duplex function. Whereas the HP8600 Pro e-machine regular for the lowest price only prints in duplex mode.

Exceptional MFP!!

This is an excellent and very versatile AIO!! La creme de la creme, if you ask me! You get multiple choices on how to scan a document, either starting from the computer, from the printer directly to a computer, directly from the printer to an email account without the need of a computer and even from the printer's embedded web page without having to install any SW on a computer!! The legal sized scanner bed gives you ample room for your original documents. And the printer is almost as fast as laser, but a fraction of the cost. Also, you can print, and scan, directly from your ipod and ipad. This is a great value for the level of service you'll get! Highly recommendable!!!

Paper files to PDFs works very well
11/23/2012

I have several file drawers of paper files, manilla folders in file separators, and I wanted to turned them into an electronic file system. I'm making great progress. I can scan a 1/4 inch stack of 8.5 inch by 11 inch papers in the feeder and then add non-standard sizes to the PDF. After the scan of non-standard sizes, I can individually tweak the brightness of the scan which goes in the PDF so I can scan faint hand writing and bold black text to the same PDF. Working great so far and I'm doing one folder in about 15 minutes counting my waiting for the scan and verifying the results in the PDF. I'm pleased with these capabilities which are not elaborated in the sales promotion information. I tried 200 dpi first but switched to 300 dpi for better scans. For file folders with pictures I use 600 dpi on the photographs. Very practical. Printing and other features seem to work as expected but I do not use the web features since I connect with a USB cable. I don't FAX either.

Excellent Printer
1/13/2013

Customer review by HVTKCO102

The printer is excellent, prints letter and legal size, envelopes, and photos. Scans and copies up to legal size. Unfortunately, non of the specs or advertising literature tells a prospective buyer this. When I got it home I thought it did not print legal size and the paper drawer was too short. I searched all the instructions but they made no mention of legal size. After two days I noticed a small blue tab inside the left front of the drawer. By pressing this and pulling the front of the drawer forward it increases its length to accommodate legal size. The engineers did an excellent job but the marketeers and sales types did a poor job in writing the sales pitches and an instruction manual. I thought there would be a comprehensive instruction manual on the internet - no, just a brief "setup" type. It is in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese though - lots of help that is! So- five stars for the printer - no stars for the HP marketing and sales departments. Meg Whitman should look into this problem.

won't print on custom sized paper :(

This printer is very fast and quality is pretty good. It seems to be very economical on the ink as well so far. BUT, in the first two weeks of owning it, I have had 2 problems 1st: Upon faxing, the sheet of paper fed through but got stuck at the last bottom third so I had to yank it out 2nd: It will NOT print on custom sized paper. You can only pick from the preset sizes that are available but if you have a custom size you're out of luck. You will always get error message "paper size does not match." The only thing the tech could recommend to me is that I print on regular paper first and then cut to the size I want (which I can't do because I have already pre-cut the paper) I have also had to re-start the printer a few times. It seems to give me problems because I do so much printing on special sizes and envelopes. I think this is a great printer if you run an office without all the special papers. I can't say anything about photo printing...never used it for that.

My Best Printer to date

I received this printer and had it hooked up in no time. It was easy to figure out for a 70 year old woman like me. I especially liked the way I can print from my phone or printer and the wireless printing is the BOMB. I had the printer for less than a week and lightning hit my phone line and ruined the printer but HP is replacing it for free. The technical support is still somewhere in India and their English is not always the easiest to understand but they seem to try hard to please . Let me explain ;The first email from them showed they were sending the wrong replacement printer but after about an hour on the phone with them we got it straightened out. Good thing my cell phone is unlimited minutes. I am just happy they are going to replace it for free. I wasn't expecting that from them but it is so new and still under warranty. The ink is not cheap nor too expensive because it lasts a long time with the XL series. I have had HP products before and I am going by that experience for the ink. I uise it a lot for sending faxes and I can stack pages and it feeds perfectly without sending two or more at a time like some fax machines I have had. That is especially useful to me because it is stressful to have to resend a fax because some of the pages stuck together and didn't get printed. Most of the fax machines I have had they have you put the print side down but this one has me put the print side up, I need to adjust to that or I will be sending blank pages. I will be sure to unplug my DSL when there is a storm from now on because I don't want anything to happen to this new replacement. I wish I had more experience with it but I will update this information if there are changes to be nade.

Exceeded expectations

I have a reputation for having "high expectations" and this printer EXCEEDED them. It arrived timely and undamaged. Set up was a breeze. Step by step instructions are included but you may find, as I did, that everything about this printer is so logical that you don't need them. Just assemble, plug in, load software, follow prompts and you are up and running. I waited to write this review until I had used it for a few weeks. I do a lot of printing for my 2 small businesses and this printer has had no problem keeping up. Print quality is great and the speed is excellent (my husband who works for a large corporation with access to high dollar printers even commented on how fast it it). The 2 sided printing feature has been wonderful, saving me both time & irritation (not re-loading paper by hand) and money (from saying "forget it" and just printing on one side). Scanning documents is easy and contains the ability to save in multiple formats at multiple resolutions. As you can tell, I love this printer and would highly recommend it!!

Just okay for the 8600 because the feeder did not last long at all, but ad for online printer/server set up it gets 5 stars. I LOVE my 7500 and any printer made prior to that, as the ink lasts a super long time. I have had over 25 printers in my lifetime, and that said, I do think HP is the "best-of-the-best" overall. As for small home office type settings you cannot go wrong with HP. So, pick up an HP but grab a warranty, so you can trade in if needed. Technology is evolving daily. I do love the older HP series, so I hope HP will go retro when designing in the future. As for 7500 series- my employees tend to make fun of the ol' workhouse, HP printer... until the have to print several documents @ flyers per cost-. After the employees use my 7500 for 1 day they ask how much I want to sell the "big" ol' machine for? I pass every time. ink is cheaper with older series so don't trade them in- if you can store one for just photos etc.

I have over one million copies or prints on the 8500 unit. Far exceeding all expectations. In fact, I bought the 8500 to use as a temporary unit until I decided which laser printer to buy. After a short time, i realized the 8500 was much cheaper and faster than a new laser printer. I truly did not expect it to last long so I kept searching for a laser jet. After 100K copies or so, draft mode, 36 ppm, almost zero warm up time, I stopped looking for a laser jet. At approximately 1 million copies the print head started to streak just a little bit. Rather than buy a new print head I decided to buy the new 8600 unit and use the 8500 as a backup. Very pleased so far, thank you for deciding to continue (HP) printers an PC's. Brilliant move on one of Meg Whitmans first decisions. I'm now a true believer in pneumatic printing, crisp copies, fast, inexpensive and easy to use software. GO HP. Note to HP: feel free to correct spelling, edit or modify my post as needed. Oh, and feel free to send a pack of cartridges to me if you feel like it. Cheers, good job, Proken

Doesn't Print Envelopes
1/24/2014

Customer review by Havitchurway

I recently purchased the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus as a replacement for my dead HP 1200 officejet printer. I soon found two office printer functions the 8600 does not perform. 1. I have not been able to print #10 envelopes with either MS Word 2007 nor WordPerfect X15. I followed the instructions found on the HP website to the letter and no joy. It feeds the envelopes fine but will not print them. In addition, there is no provision in the design for hand feeding either individual envelopes, individual card stock, label sheets or odd sized paper. The only way to feed the printer is via the paper tray. Thus, the tray must be removed, emptied, configured, loaded and reinserted for every change of paper type (including envelopes). Then these steps must be reversed to go back to normal printing. Very inefficient time management. 2. The design of the duplex fixture has no provision for straight through feeding of heavy card stock, label sheets, etc. In short, the 8600 is an acceptable printer only if you never print on anything other than 8.5x11/14 plain paper.

Cheap, plastic junk

I have owned this printer for less than 2 years, and I have had problems that began shortly after the warranty expired. The document feeder has failed to work at the most critical times on many occassions. As far as the basic functions of printing, copying, and faxing, it is fine. Print quality is great! However, if I need to send a multi-page fax in a hurry, I can always depend on the feeder refusing to operate requiring that I reset the machine by unplugging the power cord, waiting for the unit to come back on, and then hoping that it will work. I have sometimes been able to get it to work by manually rolling some of the cheap, plastic gears that drive the feeder, thereby resetting the feeder. Today, it has just totally died! No power, no screen, no nothing! It will not even come on. Perhaps it would be better if you looked at another brand as this is one of the best officejets that HP offers.
