I love it, it's an easy to use laptop that is customizable and very nice. The overall quality is nice, and the Beats Audio is great. I've had the laptop for a little over a month now, and I use it on a daily basis, usually twice a day, for periods stretching from 30 minutes to 2 hours. The laptop has only 1 headphone jack, which is not a big deal, but for some reason, only my Studio Beats appear to work with it. When i plug in Apple or Skullcandy Headphones, the audio shuts off, even at max volume, which is strange considering this laptop is relatively new. I don't know if it's a defect or if the actual jack only works with beats devices. Also, the speakers on the laptop get extremely dusty every few days, so I keep a cleaning cloth nearby to wipe it, which isn't a hassle, but can be annoying. This review is mainly for the people who plan on watching videos/movies and listening to music on the laptop. All other features are good, and there's really not much else to it.

Amazing laptop for a student; however,

it has some issues. In the description, it says that this laptop lasts up to 9.5 without recharging. That is certainly not true. I turned down the brightness to its minimum, turned off the keyboard's backlight, and turned off the wireless connection and it only lasted for about 5 hours. The upside is that this laptop charges fairly quickly. It only took about 2 hours. In other words, the keyboard is slightly different from a standard keyboard so it will take sometime to get used to. The touchpad doesn't always work the way it's supposed to but that problem can be solved by turning it off and back on. My initial concern about this laptop was that it would be too small for my needs (I use programs such as photoshop and dreamweaver) but it's actually the perfect size. Despite my issue with the battery, I love this laptop and I would recommend it to others. Just be ware that you may need an extra battery.

Overall a very solid performer

Lightweight but a good, solid build. We bought this laptop to replace a pair of aging Dell Latitudes. So far, so good. I opted for the quad core processor, as well as the 7200 rpm hard drive. Performance is very good, as is the battery life. I have only a couple of minor gripes but nothing that would cause me not to buy another one if it were stolen. The matte black is a fingerprint magnet. I've learned to wash my hands prior to using it. The resolution is lower than what I'm used (typical for ultrabooks) to but the screen is a good size, width-wise. Also, HP ships this unit with a ridiculous amount of bloatware. It took a good hour and a half to uninstall all of the ancillary junk it came with. I will eventually upgrade this to Windows 8 and when I do, I'll reimage with a clean copy of the OS. Still, all that said, I like the form factor a lot, and would buy again. It's a very good value.

Laptop is as advertised, but.....

I ordered this laptop online through HP. It is pretty much as advertised on the site and for the most part functions okay. However, you have to be careful that you specify EVERYTHING you want. I assumed that it would have a CD drive, but it did not. Now I have to order an external drive, or go to the trouble of sending the laptop back. It was also short on the number of USB ports, and it had no connection for a projector, so I won't be making an presentations with it. You also need to make sure that it is loaded with the software that you expect. My advice...don't assume anything. I also don't care for the keyboard keys. I like my Dell keyboard better. The extreme sensitivity of the touchpad and the "one key" right/left click button had me logging out by accident and changing screens at random. I have had three other laptops, and at best I rate this one average.

Fair price for an hp thin laptop, the cpu+graphics+ram is more than adequate for business, technical and media users. An optional AMD Quad-Core A10-4655M Processor and/or more ram would have been nice but can be done after. I plan to use it for 6 months or so and then upgrade to 16gb ram and a ssd drive, although the usb 3 connections are so fast I may change my mind. battery life is impressive (min 5-6 hours heavy use),elegant metallic finish (very simple but good quality and solid) and sharp HD scree.n I expect this laptop to last years like previously purchased HP products, I replaced a 10yr old hand me down (but upgraded) 17" pavilion that overheats like an old car but otherwise works flawlessly. most negative thing I can say is the wireless adapter seems to be "temperamental", but when it works, it works.

Good Value

The Sleekbook 6z-1000 is a good value and performs well for my limited needs. I especially like the 15" screen (although a screen resolution matching its size would help) as well as the options I got for larger memory and larger hard drive. Keyboard works well but the built-in mouse pad leaves something to be desired. Strongly recommend getting a wireless mouse. The Coolsense feature doesn't seem to be all that effective; however, I have no point of comparison considering this is my first laptop. The Beats Audio produces a better quality sound than I expected; however, the headphone jack input is a big tricky -- the jack needs to be inserted and then slightly pulled back in order for the sound to go from the speakers to the headphones. Overall, I believe I got more than money's worth.

I Love it! but..

Ive had a Pavillion Dv6626us for around 6+ years. It had the core-duo 1.5 intel processor, integrated graphics and 2gbs of ram (upgraded from the 1gb it came with) so this laptop is a HUGE upgrade and i LOVE it. Its thin, its light and it performs great. My only complaint is that is comes with Windows 8 and no other option. I do NOT want to use Windows 8 and im finding it hard to put windows 7 on it, not to mention it voids the warranty by downgrading the Op Sys! Unreasonable to force people into Windows 8. I realize it was my decision to purchase the laptop knowing it had only option but i wanted to stay loyal to HP but found the only Sleekbooks offering Windows 7 were pre-built laptops. Also, i wanted a backlit keyboard, and they only offer backlit on pre-built 14in laptops. Not the 15.6. I had to wait about a month before getting my laptop. The housing around my keyboard (the bars that are in between the keys) is either not snapped in or tightened down around the ASDF portion. Its solid every where else but in that area its raised just a little and has room to push down then flexs up a little. I love the backlit keyboard, i gues it was worth waiting a few extra weeks for that. If i could successfully get Windows 7 on this i would be much happier

Windows 8 makes me want to throw the computer

Customer review by maolivarez

The computer is truly amazing, kudos to HP. However, Windows 8 makes me want to throw the computer against a wall. The OS tries to mirror MAC OSx so hard that it takes everything the microsoft had right with Windows 7 and destroyed it. You will be forced to link, or create, a separate Windows email to use certain features. For example, I was forced to merge my Skype and Windows account in order to use skype. Now that I have unlinked my windows account I cannot use skype. If you do not need a new computer dont buy one unless it has windows 7, or have no preexisting windows accounts. It has really made me consider returning this computer and looking for a Windows 7 laptop.

I have the customised 6z with AMD A-10 and 6 GB RAM and faster HDD. The set up is straighforward, and after the removal of the usual bloatware, is a pleasurable computer to use-mostly used for home office and VPN to my work computer. The speed is very good with Windows 7-a pleasant surprise. The downside includes a slightly heftier weight--however considering this is 15.6" screen it is acceptable. Lastly, an attempted dual boot with Ubuntu Linux did not go well-I am not sure Ubuntu has all the needed updates for the new AMD Trinity line-the graphics and speed with Ubuntu 12.04 were not acceptable (althought the next release of Ubuntu 12.10 might overcome this).

Ok so let's be honest you are paying a decent price for an amazing machine. I was completely satisfied with the quality of the build, the A10 processor and the machine as a whole is just all around awesome. Just to give you all some perspective I sold a huge gaming rig to go to a laptop for more space and portability and when it comes to computers I am extremely picky and I still went with this computer. Why? Because it's got it where it counts, nuff said. To all of those that have thought about buying this machine for more than a few days, just do yourself a solid and put one on order, it will be the smartest purchase you can make.
