Can I use this printer USB wired for now, with my existing set up, and, of course, go wireless later?
by Mo41 9/30/2012

  • A. It has capability to do both USB and wireless...however it does not have Ethernet connections. Also you can have multiple computers on the network AND you can sign up for email printing where you can send an email of what you want printed from anywhere and it prints wherever the printer is.

  • A. I believe that it would, but it would remind you each time that it can only print in black., and you would have to click "OK". I believe that the only difference is the retailer that sells it. I don't know, but you should be able to get an answer from www.hp.com.

  • A. #1 It will print in color or black and white. I'm not sure about if just one cartridge is in, but you get the color and black cartridge with the printer. #2 Probably the price. This was only $51 shipped with a pack of paper. Can't beat the price for all it does. #3. No idea, check with Mac for your answer on that one.

  • A. #1...not sure...would guess NOT. #2...about $30-$40 less for the 3051a as I remember #3...the instructions say for Mac OS X 10.7 you need to download the software at www.hp.com/support They do not mention 10.8.

  • A. I just bought this printer but I have the 3050a and I was very surprised that it needed 2 cartridges to print at all. I did find with that one at least that you can put 2 of the color cartridges in and it will print just black and white. Seems strange. Again, I have not had it happen with this exact model.

My old (non-wireless) Canon PCS (printer/copier/scanner) needed new ink cartridges for about $38. I figured why not get a new WIRELESS PCS (with the ink) for a few $'s more. (I bought the "Value Bundle with Bonus Paper" for $49.98). Shipping was FREE and it arrived in 3 days. I'm somewhat PC-challenged but open box => ready to use took about 20 minutes ("Start Here" instructions in box => insert CD => click on "Setup" [near bottom of list] => download stuff => follow popup instructions to establish wireless signal from PC to PCS => DONE). Printed sheets look GREAT...as do copies!!! What more could one want for 50 guacamoles???

Pretty Good

I have been looking for several weeks for a printer to replace an old HP all-in-one, and I finally settled on this one after doing some research. So far I am pleased with my purchase, with two exceptions: - Setup was a little confusing and a bit of a headache in some places, especially ePrint. My printer would not give me the required info at first, but I guess it changed its mind and printed the necessary paper after a couple of tries. (Thank heaven for the included setup disc! I never would have been able to set this printer up without it.) - When I hit the scan button on the front of the printer, the scanner will not work. HOWEVER - I discovered that by going under my Applications folder (I'm running Mac OS X 10.6) and then going into the Hewlett-Packard folder, I can scan by opening up "HP Scan 3." After that, I have no problems. If I hadn't found this, I would have given up and returned the printer out of frustration. Also, I am not sure why there is about a 10-15 second delay between the time I hit the print button and the time a document prints. I've never had a wireless printer before, so I'm guessing that's what that delay is. I wouldn't take the printer back over it, but I wish it wouldn't do that. I'm sure I'll get used to it, though. Overall, I am pleased with this printer. Some people may find it to be noisy, but for me it's the same noise level as my old printer so that doesn't bother me. Print and copy quality is excellent, as is scan quality. It's not the nicest-looking printer in the world (black, gray and a really ugly burnt orange), but it gets the job done and is a great value for the money.

This is a great printer for a small home network. We have 4 laptops and a desktop wirelessly linked to it. The E-print feature was easy to set up and works fantastic. This printer runs quickly and quietly. A great value and a great product.

Great Printer for the Price

Customer review by walshopramnel

Overall, I like this printer. It is a low cost printer, so you don’t get all the bells and whistles as with higher price printers. Also, the software that comes with this printer for Windows 7 users is lacking, but you do have a work around so you can still work with it. I bought this printer one month ago and so far a great printer for the price. Con: Big one. Software does not have a low/save ink printing option. It does have a “fast draft” option, but that does not seem to print using less ink. Pro: Low price and does enough for all your home printing needs. Con: The software will allow XP Windows computer users to check the printer’s ink levels from their computers, but Windows 7 computers will not get this option. Pro: You can download a free standalone program from HP that will check the ink levels for Windows 7 computers. The standalone software program looks cheap, but it does the job. You can still/always check ink levels from the printer’s screen.

I needed a wifi printer for my iPhone and iPad because of the wireless printing involved ("airprint"). the Hp printer works great and can also scan papers back to the computer as images wirelessly. it was a special price and had a free ream of HP paper as an added incentive. it was quite easy to setup and the iPhone and iPad found the printer immediately.

Replaces a Dell all-in-one

HP has the best reputation in the printer market. Our Dell was working fine until Dell's printer manufacturer (Dell doesn't make printers) made an engineering change order on the printhead. I found this wireless printer on Walmart's site. The price was great, the printer installs flawlessly on multiple pc's, and its an HP. Its a no brainer!
