Mostly satisfied but.... 1. Farm Rental 2015 Form 4835 Gross income is not carried to Sch "E" Line 42 and there is no way to enter the amouint manually in the program. Evidently not an issue with IRS as all past years' returns have been e-filed and accepted???? 2. When doing State (Nebraska) and finished there is no print feature and have to out-think the program to print the Nebraska Tax Return for a file copy. Also no 1040N-V was available to send State for tax due. 3. Printed filiIng instruction for e-filed returns instructs TAXPAYER to mail the return to IRS??? Should say the return was e-fild and transmitted on DATE - TIME, DCN#, to IRs and also IRS Accepted DATE - TIME..if instructions printed after accepted. 4. I owed 2015 taxes to IRS, a 1040-V was printed but the PROGRAM did not provide an option to print/send in Quarterly Estimates (1040-ES) fior 2016 or to enter the amount of tx owed in 2016??? SAME COMMENT FOR THE STATE- -NEBRASKA..????

I PURCHASED AND DOWNLOADED A COPY OF 2014 TAX PACKAGE TO MY DESKTOP AT HOME IN NEW JERSEY. I DID NOT USE IT THERE. I LEFT THERE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD, SO I PUT THE PROGRAM ON MY NOTE BOOK COMPUTER AS I WOULD BE DOING THE TAXES WHILE AWAY FROM HOME THE OTHER DAY I TRIED TO INSTALL THE PROGRAM. IT WOULD INSTALL BUT WHEN I TRIED TO RUN IT, IT WOULD SHOW THE PURPLE H& R LOGO BOX AND THEN DISAPPEAR. WHEN I TRIED TO LAUNCH THE PROGRAM AGAIN A POPUP WOULD APPEAR SAYING PROGRAM IS RUNNING. I REMOVED AND REINSTALLED TWICE, SAME RESULT. GIVING UP ON THIS, I WENT TO THE STORE AND PURCHASED A RETAIL COPY. I WENT THROUGH THE SAME EXERCISE WITH THE SAME RESULT. I HAVE NOW BOUGHT TWO COPIES OF THE TAX SOFTWARE AND STILL CAN NOT DO MY TAXES. I HAD A LENGTHY SESSION WITH A TECH REP WHO TRIED TO TAKE ME THROUGH THE INSTALLATION, WITHOUT SUCCESS. SHE TOLD ME SE WOULD CREDIT MY ACCOUNT FOR THE COST OF THE DOWNLOADED SOFTWARE, WHICH HAS NOT HAPPENED. I HAVE RETURNED THE RETAIL COPY TO THE STORE.

    Problems with Form 4952

When I added data from a K-1 partnership form the program created form 4952. End result of that form was an investment expense deduciton of Zero. When you print the return this form does not print. When I tried to do an e-File, the program told me certain lines on this form could not be zero, however I had none of what it wanted. It gave me an option to delete the form. I clicked on the button but it did not delete it. I also went to the forms and tried to delete and it wouldn't. I'm not sure what the issue is, but I am filing using paper instead. So, waiting days for a refund will now be weeks doing it this way. So a key benefit of buying this package was the e-File and I couldn't use it. By the way I used the sam program last year and when I opened the file this form 4952 was there and filled out exactly the same. It worked last year and for some reason doesn't this year. I will guarantee you that I will be using Turbotax next year. I will be writing the company a letter and asking for a refund.

    1. The 1099-DIV should be listed on the same page as the other 1099 forms. 2. Near the end, after clicking on the "Go To" links to update/correct any of the 1099 forms, user has to click through all of the screens again just to get back to where they were. H&R Block software should automatically take user back to the screen they were on after they updated/corrected the forms. 3. When printing the "Filing Instructions", it prints past the bottom of the page. It should stop at the set borders of the printer, and continue on (without truncation), to the next page. 4. To save a .PDF format of the return, user has to install additional software. It failed the first time (popped up a failed message), and clicking on the "Install PDF Printer" shortcut again, it says it is already installed. 5. It's very hard to find the CHAT button to launch H&R Block's CHAT. It should be easy to find in the H&R Block's Tax Filing app.

I've been using H&R Block to file my taxes for over 10 years. As I diversify my investments, I find less and less of the information I need. For example, I received K-1 forms from two oil company publicly traded partnerships. On 5 or 6 lines, the program says it doesn't handle the codes. The product is also very irritating as it makes me read IRS instructions for a state tax refund and manually fill in part of the form. Come on, folks, it's a tax refund.... Calling for help does no good - they only tell you that the software can't handle the K-1 form and to call the IRS. I can't import my E*Trade trades - they have to be entered manually. The software should let me either import from a spreadsheet, or at least copy and paste or enter the information manually on a spreadsheet style form. But no, I have to start every every trade from scratch, wasting hours of time for no good reason.

Intuitive Program, small glitch this year

I have been using this software since 2000 because it is intuitive, populates the previous year, and easy to use. There was one glitch this year with the 1099-R form when it was populated by the previous year's information. It erroneously taxed a tax-free distribution when it shouldn't have. I chatted with two techs online, and another on the phone, for a total for 2.5 hours, but it wasn't resolved, other than the suggestions to "override entries" (this will deny e-filing), or stop by a local H&R Block store for advice. After about six hours of trying to fix this, I decided to delete the specific 1099-R file and introduce a clean file. That fixed it. Lastly, though the software offers suggestions for expense write-off categories, it needs to include many more. For example, the competitor's similar software suggests Costco and Amazon Prime annual fees as acceptable business related write-offs. This software should include these and many more suggestions.

I attempted to file my taxes on 2/6/2014, but a bug in the online software caused it to be rejected. I have been getting the run around since then and finally today after calling support (didn't have to stay on hold for 3-4 hours like usual so I was shocked) they finally gave me a link to download the computer based software and a code so i "would not have to pay again" since I already paid during the first filing. I then had to re-enter all my information again in the PC based software and when i went to file, it charged me again for the state e-filing. I am currently on hold AGAIN while i try to get this straightened out. Customer service reps either don't enter what they say into your case files, or no one reads them as I had to go over everything each time and since i was going to be out of town for an extended period i asked them to email me with any updates but of course they did not. At this point i don't think I will ever use H&R Block again.

This is my second year using H&R Block. My tax returns are not that complicated. I could probably get along without H&R Block, but I like using it because it does almost all of the work for me. The reason I only gave it four stars is because it does have it's issues. One issue I found was with Form 8283 (Noncash Charitable Contributions). Section A on the form only has space for five entries. If you enter more than five, H&R Block creates a second 8283. However, in my case I had eleven entries. H&R Block created the first two 8283's, but not the third. The total noncash contributions on schedule A, line 17 was correct, but H&R Block failed to create all of the IRS required 8283s. Lesson learned - It's not fool proof. You need to review your return closely before filing. Another issue for me is having to install PDF995 before I can do a "Save as PDF". I already have a PDF printer installed. I don't want or need another one, and I don't need PDF995 resetting itself as the default printer each time I use the "Save as PDF" option. I would prefer to use the PDF printer I already have, thank you.

Things Not To Trust With Block Software

A few years back I switched from TurboTax to HRBlock and was satisfied until this year. My first and biggest complaint is that the software, apparently, defaults to 'no health care insurance,' if you don't notice or didn't answer the question. As a result, my initial computation for a refund came to a tax owed of over $2,000. Which, by the way, was shown as "Tax Owed, MINUS $2,000." I though that meant a $2,000 refund ... if you owe a minus amount, you must be owed, rather than owing. I also donated a vehicle, and I answered all the right questions, yet the software did not check 'yes' for vehicle donation. Finally, when I eFiled I couldn't get past the screen that said to check eFile status. I checked, and checked, and checked, and when I finally just clicked the Finish tab, it said I need to check the eFile status. There are just enough glitches that I'm going back to TurboTax next year. Oh, I also tried to contact customer support by telephone. After being on hold for 10 minutes and after not speaking with anyone, I was switched to their satisfaction survey. They got zeroes for that. *

Solid quality - fewer problems than we've encountered on the competition. H&R Block software, however, forced us to do the state's Retirement Income Credit determination. On the state return, the help function did not address Retirement Income Credit at all, and it isn't supported sufficiently in the H&R software for the state, so this required us to locate and print out the appropriate vaguely-worded state worksheet on paper and trying to interpret what they meant by state-specific terms. Took a couple hours extra to do that, with the result being 0 credit. But this is still less frustrating than the competition which made large unobvious errors requiring us to file an amended return. For the itemized federal deductions, it would be nice if H&R software suggested checking last year's state return for any optional charitable donations made that reduced last year's refund as these don't show up in the usual checks and receipts records.
