Printer would not acknowledge

Worked for two small print jobs, but would not align properly for printing. After two print jobs my printer no longer would read the cartridge as installed and would not print anything, not even non-color jobs despite my repositions of the cartridge numerous times in an attempt to get it to acknowledge it was installed. I had to buy another color cartridge to be able to use my printer at all.
