We go through light cream very quickly in my house so I have never had a problem with it going bad. I purchased two cartons on 9/30/2019 and they are both lumpy and curdled. I opened the second one today and it was the same weird lumpy mess. It's 10/2/2019 and the expiration on both says 11/14/2019. Very unhappy.
I usually buy my light cream at another grocery store, but I saw this at Walmart on 9/20/19, so I bought two cartons. The expiration date was November, but the way I drink coffee, the two cartons should be enough to last me about a week. Every time I have put it in my coffee, it has formed a skin on top of the coffee in my cup. I have been drinking coffee for over 50 years, and never have I had light cream (or half and half) form a skin on top in my coffee. The light cream looks fine as it comes out of the carton. It is not curdled or sour. One thing that I did notice on the label is that the light cream contains several additives "to prevent separation of the cream". My guess is that the additives are the culprit. I can think of no other reason for this to be happening. I have tried using it over a period of several days and different pots of coffee, and the result is the same. The light cream grows a skin on top of the coffee. Light cream from other grocery stores has never done this before. I have the receipt, but I have no idea if the Walmart will take it back.
