Have the bulb in a cheap little floor lamp I bought and Walmart added a dimmer switch and it works beautifully. I forget what the lumens rating is but it puts out plenty of light for reading.

I Saw The Light!
SO FAR, SO GOOD
I HAVE ONLY HAD THESE IN MY DINING ROOM LIGHT FOR ABOUT FOR A COUPLE WEEKS. THEY HAVE A BEAUTIFUL SOFT WHITE LIGHT - NO BLUE OR YELLOW. THEY DO NOT FLICKER OR HAVE ANY OF THE PROBLEMS I HAVE READ ABOUT LED LIGHTS. NO REASON SO FAR NOT TO BUY GREAT VALUE BULBS. ALMOST $4 A BULB SEEMS PRICEY, BUT NO WORSE THAN OTHER BRANDS, IF THEY LAST AS EXPECTED AND SAVE ENERGY, THEY ARE WELL WORTH THE PRICE.
Great value (Daylight) 40 watt LED
I have never liked the yellow color the old fashioned bulbs gave off but did not want to pay $20-30 for each led when I found out wal-mart had these I was excited they come in very earth friendly packaging very little plastic. Very easy to open no scissors needed. (I folded down my boxes and put them away with receipts in case they fail in 3 years). Anyway onto the bulb they are basically half metal half plastic the metal is the heat sync as it does get warm/hot but not like a Edison ever did I can still unscrew it without burning my hand. This does seem to give off pretty even light distribution but if you really need a area lit up simply get higher wattage. We replaced every bulb in house with these or the 60 watters and all worked out of the box 6 months or so and going strong. Another word of advice really read the box if you buy in store they all look similar so you might end up buying the yellow one or a dim able/ non dimmable one. And yes they do have one that does work in enclosed luminaries. I recommend this strongly if you like saving money.
