second time was the charm!!!
We got this to can some sauce from our tomatoes and the old one was toast. So the first one arrived and the lid would not fit correctly because the actual pot was warped and you cannot try to un-bend it because the porcelain coating will crack off. So we had a return and the second one was perfect. Must have been a factory error on the first one. But you definitely need to make sure the lid fits tight before using it, Otherwise a great canning pot holds 7 quart size jars, 6 around and one in the middle.

Not made in USA! Made in MEXICO.
Be aware that Columbian Home Products sold their granite-ware business to Cinsa USA, Inc of San Antonio, TX. The canners are now poorly constructed, made in MEXICO not USA, and have a sharp edge on the stamped metal lid.

Does what you buy it for

Verified purchase

My only less-than-perfect remark would be about the jar rack. The one I had 40 years ago and replaced with this new one had a more functional rack in that it had some raised areas that kept the jars more stable in the canner. This is not a big deal but I like the old rack a lot better.

Packaging needs improvement

Verified purchase

This is a tried and true water bath canner. I'm grateful to have it since they're currently in high demand, but due to poor packaging, mine arrived with chipped enamel on the pot and lid. Lid is slightly bent along the edge. It will still be functional but will likely develop rust where the enamel is missing.

Rusting after two uses

I've literally used this twice. The rack that comes with the pot has already started to rust. It's ridiculous.

Not like original

Verified purchase

They have changed this and now it is a hazard to handle. The edge of the lid no longer has the sharp lid underneath, which helped hold it on the pot when boiling, it is now on the top of the lid. This causes it to be very easy to cut your hand on when picking up. It is basically the opposite of the original lid from years ago... Like they reversed the lid when pressing the edge...

1. Yes, I used mine yesterday with pints. At first I thought they wouldn't fit, but then I realized the handles open up and hang on the side of the pot, allowing me to load the pints and then left them down into the water without touching the water. And getting them out is easy, just lift it up and hang on the sides. Very convenient!

3. Yes, but as with all canners, stay in the kitchen and keep an eye on it. I would not keep it at high heat for an extended period of time. Once your water is boiling, turn the gas down to maintain the boil.
