    Great stove, but the price.

I was going to Burning Man and wanted to cook a single person meal, but didn’t want to take large stove or complicated gas burners. This stove seems like perfect for me. The stove is a small foldable stamp steel product only for small cups, pans, and pots. It has two height setting, but really the lower setting creates unstable platform of cookware. Knowing it will be very windy at times, I build a large corner shape windscreen out of plywood. That ultimately effected cooking times. The fuel tables are individually packaged in blister foil packs. It takes a bit to ignite the tablets, so it is best to use long reach BBQ/ candle lighter. The tablets completely burn out in about ten minutes, after eight minutes the flame will begin to diminish. I was able to boil one cup of water in less than eight mins. But 1 1/3 cups of water, at 4,000 feet, was pushing it with one tablet. But spraying water will extinguish them and they can be reused again. Also, fuel tablet leaves a large amount of soot on cookware that can be easily wiped off with dry paper towel. As for the price; I walked into Wal-Mart, in another state and found the same type of stove, with the same amount of fuel tables for $6.00

    functional novelty

This unit does what it claims. It is small and convenient, and it works. One fuel tablet will just about boil ten ounces of water at 1,500 feet above sea level. Use two fuel tablets and boil more water or boil faster. SO... if you want something you can carry easily in your pack - or even your pocket so you can boil a cup of coffee or soup, this will work. This design is more sturdy and provides a slightly better wind-block than the old-school tri-leg folding solid-fuel burners. Most folks will use it a couple of times, get a kick out of it, and then never use it again. The cost of the fuel tablets has always been a detriment to using solid fuel stoves and that has not changed. Do the math. If you use one single tablet to boil on cup of water, the cost is between $0.50 to $1.00 per use. So, you really pay for the novelty. You can get replacement solid fuel tabs at most Army Surplus stores.

    where to find fuel

I don't have this model stove, I have another. The reco is for solid fuel stoves in general. I have found solid fuel in stock, on the shelf at backpacker stores like REI or EMS. The cheapest I found was online at ebay (Coghlans brand fuel). Walmart.com has some sellers, search under "fuel tablets" or "hexamine." Surplus stores sometimes have old Vietnam-era military solid fuel - it comes in waxy tubes, not boxes. Brand names for these type stoves/fuel in Europe are Esbit or Bleuet and you can search under those names too to find the fuel. Another kind of solid fuel is trioxane but I have not tried it and can't say whether hexamine or trioxane is better.

    Compact & awesome

I used this on an overnight biking/camping trip to heat water for coffee & mountain house dehydrated food. The fuel tabs burned for quite a bit and the water boiled real fast in my Stanley adventure camp cook set. Only problem I had was having to order it site to store as they hardly ever have it on the shelves in Walmart. Its small, efficient and a must have for backpackers.

    Impressive pocket stove

Wow this little pocket stove is awesome, so compact like a deck of cards, great to have for emergencies, survivor mans favorite.
