For $49, It's a Pretty Good Buy. But...

Ease of setup was probably THE easiest player I've ever had to configure (contrary to any Apple product). I never once had to reference the manual - everything just made perfect sense from navigation, to connectivity to copying over music. Speaking of copying music, when they say 4,000 songs, they mean 4,000 songs. I purchased this to play hold music for callers into our company. I had 4,734 songs to copy over (approximately 7.43 GB). All songs seemed to copy over successfully; however, when I looked at the content on the device, only 4,000 songs were listed. I can only guess they mean 16GB OR 4,000 songs...whichever comes first (probably another quality product from a now-defunct Detroit automaker). Outside of that little "feature," this really is a pretty slick device and, again, so unbelievably easy to setup and work with...unlike any Apple product. And you aren't REQUIRED to install iTunes, then authorize your computer, just to copy music to it. It simply works out of the box.

I luckin love this thing

I don't have a phone right now and this plus my iPad have saved my life

Over priced for what it is

There are several major flaws with this player. The first is the inability to change the type of pc connection, this will only allow MSC which means it's connected as USB flash drive hence only folder view no playlist. If this allowed a MTP connection (allows playlists) I would keep it. Second the cable supplied is to short, about 6" and uses a proprietary connection so using a different cable that is longer isn't possible. Playlists on the go, as they call it may seem nice but once you turn it off the playlist is deleted. Most of my music does come from CD's but I also have scores of them downloaded as singles and to have to scroll through all of them to created what is essentially an ad hoc playlists isn't very desirable to me. I've had two other Philips MP3 players one died after a couple of years but currently use a Philips Go Gear Ariaz (SA3ARA08K/37) and it's a very reliable player. What attracted me to this one is the 16GB and price, but as it is the player is useless.

Works and Doesn't Work

I bought this item because I needed more storage on my music player. I thought a 16 gig unit would work perfectly on my long 100 mile bike rides. Shortly after I received the player I loaded it up with music, which was not as easy as I thought. The manufacturer recommends using a software product called SongBird but I would not recommend it. It is a very generic software product. I was able to use Windows Media to transfer all of my music over to the new unit. Once loaded, I fired up the unit to check out the sound it would produce and could not get it to run for more than four songs. After four songs, the player would freeze and shut off. I took me four days to finally figure out how to get the unit to play for more than four songs. As of this writing, I have yet to get the unit to play for more than a few hours. The manufacture has been no help resolving this problem and many posts on the Internet continue to complain about this type, and many other types, of problem(s). If you can get a good unit that works properly, this is a good unit. Otherwise, I would look for a different player.

last years same model outstanding, this year cheap

I first read the reviews and one review said the plastic case was poor. I can agree. The screen is smaller as is the whole device. Can get over that. This years model has no built in speakers. the Bluetooth is not COMPATIABLE with many other Bluetooth. and when I plug in the ear phones that Philips Mp3 came with , there was noise distortion in the left ear. there was about 15 problems in all with the construction of the player. the previous year model I have and is excellent! this years model, this one, the album photos for many of the songs are blank with the turquoise music symbol. and when I use a longer usb2 cord the device "bumps off" when connected to my car, not playing continuously. Honestly built poorly, put out too quick without testing.

Not a good player for audiobooks

The specifications for this mp3 player states it will play WMA files. What Philips does not inform and/or make clear to customers is that it will ONLY play WMA files from Audible.com meaning you must become a member. If you are wanting a mp3 player to listen to audiobooks or any other WMA file, I suggest the Sansa 8GB clip as it will play a protected WMA (DRM) file. The Philips GoGear Ariaz runs about the same price as the Sansa 8GB clip. A positive for the GoGear Ariaz, it has Bluetooth capability.

Great product for the price

I was looking for an MP3 player thats is bluetooth and to go with my bluetooth headphones for workouts. There aren't many around and if there are they are about $150. This is the perfect player. Works great with my headphones. Easy to use. Only issue is setting up bluetooth with other items. It doesn't automatically find the other bluetooth object and you have to figure out how to do it. But once its setup its works great. def 4 1/5 out of 5 stars for this

Bought two, neither worked.

I bought one of these and the battery life was about 30 minutes. So I took it back and got another one. Same problem. Charged it up for hours then listened to it for about thirty minutes. After that it was totally dead and would never turn back on or charge back up. Worst mp3 player I have ever purchased.

Escape from iPod

This Philips GoGear Ariaz is proof that you don't have to pay the "Apple tax" if you don't want to. This is a fine iPod alternative at a MUCH more consumer-friendly price. The sound quality is excellent, and the Ariaz paired up quickly and easily with two Bose BT speakers I have, the Mini and the SIII. The FM tuner also produces excellent sound, but unfortunately requires that you plug in wired headphones to act as an antenna, preventing the BlueTooth transmission of radio programs. The Ariaz will also display photo slide shows and play videos, although the small screen makes these functions less than optimal experiences. Just considered as a great-sounding wireless MP3 player, however, the Ariaz is well worth the money. Recommended!

Pretty Easy but could be better

This is a good sounding unit but it could be better if it came with a wall charger for home use instead of having to charge off of your computer all the time. Having to be limited to using audible.com audio books is really not fair to the buyer of the unit as we should be free to use whatever service or audio books we choose too including those we buy off the shelf at the bookstore. Having to buy the home charger, car charger and sound splitter is also not a plus for this unit as it should be included for the price of it.
