I liked George and Martha

I liked George and Martha as a free reading book. There are five different short stories in this book and each story has a different main idea. I like the fact that there are multiple stories in the book which gives children the ability to choose which story they want to read. I also like that the stories are short and do not have too many words on one page. This makes it easier for younger readers to follow along. Finally, I believe the main idea of all the stories is the friendship between George and Martha and to show children how to treat their friends.

Do you always tell your b

Do you always tell your best friend the truth? In the children's book, George and Martha, written and illustrated by James Marshall come a live two hippos who are best friends. Through five short stories we discover the many lessons and truths about being someone's friend, whether it is because of pea soup, the will to fly, a mirror, a tub, or a tooth. This fictional book could be used in a classroom from Pre-K up to second grade with the focus and question of how to be someone's friend and what that might mean, as well as being a funny read aloud. This book really captured my attention at the end of every story when I realized what lesson I was learning without even knowing it!

A wonderful book of five

A wonderful book of five short little stories about what very good hippo friends, George and Martha. The stories teach about friendship, telling the truth, privacy, vanity, encouragement and comforting each other. A great vocabulary builder with words like lovely, handsome, distinguished, peeked, privacy, flying machine, species, exclaimed, sighed and loafers.

Very funny! Little lesson

Very funny! Little lessons on morality and friendship. Pictures are goofy and earnest. Maybe best not waisted on the kids, adults will enjoy these just as well ...

I LOVE stories about Geor

I LOVE stories about George and Martha. Their friendship is sweet, kind, and sometimes challenging--as so many friendships are. James Marshall has a knack for writing gently funny narratives.
