We don't have a daily need for GPS navigation but we frequently travel to places we've never been. I grew up using road atlases my whole life but I decided it's 2012 and time for me to go beyond carrying map books everywhere and printing directions to specific addresses off the internet. Since Ive never had a GPS unit of any kind I researched a lot before finally deciding on the Garmin nuvi 1300LM bundle from Walmart dot com. The box contains the unit (of course), two bases (one for dash mount, one for windshield mount), a computer USB cable for update downloads and home charging, 2 DC power cables for power on the road, and a case. Researching at stores proved essentially worthless because the units are unable to receive satellite signals inside stores, thus, you can't put them through their paces. I did glean ONE useful bit of information from one of the big box stores. An associate had owned units by two different brands - a Garmin and another brand. She prefers the navigational accuracy of the Garmin. I continued my research reading countless reviews. Numerous people who had used different brands said they preferred Garmin. So I decided on Garmin. I searched numerous sites for units, prices, features, etc, and settled on Walmart's nuvi 1300LM bundle. It isn't "this year's model" but I've never been one who looked for the latest bells and whistles. This unit fit my needs and it fit my budget. After purchasing online and getting the unit (a day BEFORE the promised arrival date) I got it charged up, registered, and downloaded and installed the free updates. After about 4 hours of charging and downloading and installing updates (a long but very simple process), I finally started playing with it. I took it to the front of the driveway and set the "Home" location. I experimented with "Points of Interest" looking for gas stations, stores, hotels, restaurants, etc. I was pleasantly surprised when the names and locations of the eateries and convenience stores around here whose advertising consists of nothing more than word of mouth and "the sign on the post out front" appeared on the screen. After using it on familiar ground for a week or two (back and forth to work, stores, family's homes just to get the feel of the unit) I got the chance to take it someplace I hadn't been. We needed to drop a friend off at an airport I hadn't been to and decided to make a day of the big city. We dropped off the friend and decided "let's go here". So we looked it up on "Points of Interest", found it, touched "Go" and just followed the spoken directions: what exit to take, what street to turn on, left, right. It never missed a turn and took us stright to our chosen destination. We got hungry. We went back to "Points of Interest", clicked on restaurants, picked one that was within walking distance, touched "Go", and set the nuvi to "Pedestrian Mode". We unplugged it from the power cord and, using battery power, carried it as we walked. It guided us right to the front door of the restaurant. After eating we got back to the car, set the unit to "Home" and it got us right back where we started from. After all that I have no reservations about GPS technology and the ability of the Garmin nuvi 1300LM to get us to unfamiliar places every time. As we drove there were some construction sites with slight re-routing of the road. The nuvi sensed those places immediately and recalculated. As it turns out the re-routing we experienced was simply a re-route and not a full blown detour so after exiting the construction zone the nuvi quickly picked up where it left off and guided us onward. I'll add that a couple times I have intentionally taken wrong turns to see how quickly it can get one turned back in the right direction. It recalculated within 15 to 30 seconds each time and took me right back to the proper route. I am amazed with the capabilites of GPS technology. I am extremely satisfied with the way Garmin and it's nuvi get one where one wants to go and helps one find places like restaurants and gas stations and lodging. As I said, the nuvi 1300LM isn't "this year's model" but in the end it has exceeded my expectations for less money than I would have paid for the latest model. And the latest model doesn't come with a case. You'd have to buy that extra. And if you want to have power and mounting in two vehicles you have to buy those as accessories with the latest model. They come in the box with this bundle. The Garmin nuvi 1300LM bundle from Walmart dot com is an excellent deal on an excellent product. I highly recommend it.

I bought the bundle for my son for his birthday...I own the same model, and wonder what I did before I had it! I travel to artisan shows around the state, and this has been an invaluable tool. No more hoping Mapquest or Google maps are right. Plus, if you decide you want to stop at a store on the way home, if you've used the old fashioned Mapquest, etc., you're sunk. With the Garmin, you can search for the store, bank, or whatever you need, then just add it as a "via point"... It's so handy. Yes, sometimes the Garmin will show you at your destination when you may not really be there yet, but I suppose that's normal...sometimes the property line of the address you're going to will be before the actual house. Being able to update four times a year is great. So far, I've had no trouble with it. It's easy to use, and you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure it out. Worth every penny...I highly recommend it! The thought of going back to printing a set of directions before your trip is like trying to go back to trying to find a pay phone to use...clearly a thing of the past! You won't be sorry with this purchase. It also has a pedestrian setting, as far as I know. I've never used it, but that would be invaluable as well if you're bicycling or hiking. Just get it...you'll see how handy it is!

I highly recommend this model GPS. I literally took it out of the box, downloaded the map, and took off for a cross country trip. It's so easy to use, it's my first time using a GPS and I was able to navigate simply with the start up guide, which was included. Simply touch each icon to discover what it can do then use the back and forward arrows as needed. This doesn't come with some of the "fancy" features (phone pairing etc) the more expensive models offer, which wasn't important to me. I just wanted to go and not get lost. It works! The bundle includes all accessories you need, including an especially nice case for the device.

This is my first GPS and I love it. I am in Morocco and I have learned to trust the Garmin even when it takes me in the opposite direction to access the highway entrances. Some of the roads are remote and out of the way but, its on the Garmin and I get to my final destination. Great buy for the beginner. I never leave the house without it.

This is my first GPS navigation system. Installation and use was very user-friendly. I got a two-car installation package at a reasonable cost. Now, I feel confident about going long distance without getting lost very frequently. A good buy!

The Garmin bundle is a good purchase mix... sets you up for both Autos'.. the life time Maps software on-line is quick to down load, (could use a step by step feature..but sufficient). The carrying case is really not needed, could offer some other option.. because you can use a digital camera case as your Garmin carrying case. So far very satisfied with the larger display and early street detection on the map... the female voice could be a little more sexy and tender for Males, she sounds more like a Drill Sargent, 'Turn Right next Street', instead of 'your right turn is coming up at next street.. drive safely..' ... and ... 'I am now choosing another route for you' .. instead of ' RECALCULATING ' (not promoting 'you dummy, don't you know where you are going?' ... and If I did... why would I spend hard earned money on a GPS... : )
