    • A. You get immediate feedback by changing to the appropriate screen! Once I set my workout schedule, I change it to the feedback screen and just leave it there. I always know exactly how far I have run (or how far I left to run! :) just by looking at the screen! Its perfect for me since I do not have any paths to run in my town so I just run until it hits the 6 mile mark... or whatever distance I'm running that day!

    • A. it gives immediate feedback on your distance as you are running. its pretty darn neat cuz when you start off, it actually lists how many feet you've traveled and when it gets far enough, it automatically changes to miles (or km if you set it up that way).

If it will measure distance independently from pace, how difficult is it to program?
    by bethbeth 11/21/2010
    6 answers
    • A. It is not difficult at all to program. It tells you your current pace, best pace and distance. Also the total time you've been running/walking. No calibration necessary. The GPS does all the work.

    • A. Yes - I have done 5/1 for a half marathon and programmed it into my forerunner. It beeps when you are getting the the next level so you don't have to continually look at your watch.

    • A. Yes, I do interval running too and its perfect!! You set your workout minutes under train/rest. It will give you your time during both periods. It does ask you for the number of laps so just set it high... for me to run a 10k I set it at 50 intervals and so far I haven't exceeded. I am now training for a 1/2 marathon so I will be moving the laps up to 100. You don't have to finish the laps, just press stop when you're done. When you go to use it again, you just go back into workout menu and move down to "Done" if you are going to keep the same intervals...it starts over!

    • A. It will measure distance even of your pace varies. In the end it will give you an average pace, but you can also upload your data to GarrminConnect.com and look at your pace during each mile.

    • A. Yes, the 205 works just like a car GPS. You can download the lap (outing) to Garmin Trainer and view profiles for elevation, change of pace, etc.

I ordered this product 2 days ago via walmart.com for site to store pickup. 2 days ago and I got it today. Setup is easy, although intimidating if you look at the manual before trying it. I unpacked everything and got rid of packaging before trying to do anything else. I have not had a chance to use the product yet but thanks to walmart, I get to use it for the first time in a race on Saturday. I am extremely excited over this fact. If you are considering this product, don't hesitate. Get it through walmart. I have been shopping around for about 4 months and this is THE best price and the speed of delivery is great as well.

Garmin is Good but this isn't a Nuvi

I live near the town where Garmin is HQ so I have always purchased them because I believe in supporting local American business. I love my 2 Garmin Nuvi GPS devices. I was excited about the Forerunner. I maybe should have opted for the 305 with cardiac belt but Walmart had a good deal going. It is humongous on your wrist, clunky and a bit awkward. It is definitely difficult to learn. It takes some reading to set it up. I really had wanted it because I walk a lot and had had conflicting mileage between my pedometers and my friend's pedometers and the route. This seemed like the absolute answer for accuracy. At first I didn't think it helped. THEN I used the cd's and uploaded and it was a different story. BUT for a person who just walks, this is kind of expensive to keep track of your miles. It is excellent for people who bike or run and compete with themselves for time or distance. It is excellent for training. My Nuvi is slick, easy to use and versatile. My Forerunner is high tech and overkill for a simple walker.

This is much, much better than the 201. stays locked on the satellite even when you are around tree's, buildings and bridges for far better accuracy. The great new design will seem big to you at first but, that feeling will quickly fade... Walmart offers the cheapest price for this item. I looked in all the stores and even online. nobody beats them...

i've had this watch for the past month or so. i picked it up because i started more running and am planning on a half marathon next year. i've tried on-line sites like runkeeper to keep track of my runs and i've tried a bunch of apple iphone pedometer apps, but none of them seemed right. in fact many were far off. the mark. a friend mentioned a gps watch, so i looked into it. i snatched up the 205 when i saw it on sale for $129. i'm bummed to see that it just went for $99 recently. but $129 is still better than the original $149. is it worth $129? it is in my book! the watch itself is quite bulky; that took some getting used to. however, the multiple view options available are quite satisfying. i'm sure most people will be able to find a set of screen setups that they like. when using the 4 windows, numbers get a little small so its hard to glance down at the watch and see what you're looking for. the gps unit is awesome. after an initial slow bootup and acquisition, once its locked on, i haven't had it lose a signal. the instructions say not to use it indoors because it'll have a hard time finding a signal. i start it up all the time indoors and it still finds the satellite, though the initial lock-on does take some time. the buttons are easy to find while running, even with gloves in the colder weather. however, when trying to set up the watch, get ready for some sore fingertips because you have to push pretty hard. the backlight feature is great for night running. the customizability is quite nice. the included software (i use the mac version) works great. there are some nifty graphs, but i haven't found any significant use for them. there is a training mode that sets alarms to tell you to pick up your pace. i thought that would be useful at first, but after 2 times, i turned it off because it became annoying and i couldn't enjoy the run. for hardcore people really planning on training hard and pushing themselves, the training mode would probably be great. i got the watch more as a better accurate measure of my speed and distance, and for that purpose, the watch is great (as long as you can get over the monstrous size of this thing). the 205 version does not come with a heart rate monitor. i believe that's the only difference between the 205 and 305, but don't quote me on that. i recently saw the 305 for $99 as well. summary: would i buy this watch again? definitely.

I'm still learning all the features of the FR-205, but I am unconditionally in love with it. The ONLY drawback is that I cannot hear the alerts, because the volume is too low. But with this device and all that is in the (small) package, that's not a serious problem from my perspective. Support so far has exceeded expectations. I've sent two or three e-mail requests for info and they've been answered politely and promptly. I'm seriously in training for next year's Chicago Marathon, and I wouldn't give up this gadget for anything. If you run indoors a lot (or on a treadmill) you might want to consider the FR-305 with footpod. I don't think Wal-Mart carries the footpod (?). The extra cost is about $150 I think, but they allow you to record distance info where you are unable to get a GPS signal. I do most of my running outside, so it's not a problem. When I do run an inside track, I turn the GPS off and use the FR-205 to keep track of laps and time. Love it!
