Didn't expect to find this in store right away! Classic vehicle. Treads are weather to look like it's been through mud and dirt. Sticker sheet for decals. New figure sculpt! Great toy/collectible!

G.I.Joe is back!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The G.I. Joe Retro Collection Cobra H.I.S.S. Vehicle reminds me of being a kid. My son has loved playing with it, and it even comes with an action figure. It was easy to assemble as the few large pieces snap into place. It moves smoothly, even in grass.

Ready to RIP it back in Action!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I loved playing with my small GI toys growing up. It was cool to get a reproduction of a toy I had as a kid. That said, I can tell it's not the old level of quality it was in the 80s. Even the figures are stiffer than any of the 500 I had as a kid. I also thought a little more art work on the tank would have given it a lot of believability.

 I gave it to my son, who enjoys playing with it so overall I consider it a win to see him play with the same toys I did.

Great Childhood Memory!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Cobra H.I.S.S. is with Rip It action figure is everything I remember as a kid growing up in the 80's watching G.I. Joe and other 80s cartoons. Going into this review, you have to look at this item from an overall perspective and then as having two potential uses... a) a toy and b) a showpiece (that is, something a collector would place on his or her shelf (likely in a box, never opened). I got this set with the intention of sharing a piece of my youth with my youngest son (9 and can appreciate taking care of sets for future enjoyment).

Overall, the box (which unfortunately arrived damaged) has the same spectacular graphics that I remember as a kid... on the front, the Cobra H.I.S.S. blazing into battle. On the reverse, an image of the actual Cobra H.I.S.S. "toy" and action figure (Rip It) and the character's bio. In the box, cardboard, the vehicle, action figure all all protected well enough. The individual wrapping on the character are a really nice touch. The vehicle comes disassembled, but is very easy to put together. In the box, you get the vehicle's parts, standard paperwork, assembly instructions (interestingly enough, the install instructions were printed with one of vehicle's side stickers printed upside down), really well-executed (plastic vs. paper) stickers, the character, and character display stand (emblazoned with the character's name). Overall, the vehicle body is really well-executed, with a lot of imprinted detail (even in the gunner's cockpit). Some stickers were hard to put on... requiring the use of tweezers to access certain areas to ensure the stickers are placed where and how they should be (so, if giving this set to a kiddo, I'd recommend helping them with sticker placement). Looking back on my childhood toys now (I put all the stickers on my toys... or forgot), I wish I would've had help to put them on right, as they'd be so much nicer now. Now, regarding the vehicle body, even though this Cobra H.I.S.S. must've been fresh off the assembly line, as there are no battle scars on the hull, the mud on the tracks gives the vehicle a more realistic feel... like it's on its way to battle. regarding the tracks, it's obvious that they're locked in place. The vehicle rolls on two sets of rollers built into the tracks. They're not individual wheels but two sets of locked-in-place columns with wheels on either side of the columns. The "wheels" roll easily, allowing the vehicle to roll over carpet, hard wood, or whatever your imagination can throw at it. If you used the vehicle in dirt, etc., it will get gunked up with debris and would be hard to clean. Back to the top of the vehicle, The gun turret fully rotates and the cannons flip up easily and stay in place where you raise or lower them. The cockpit's "glass" seems sturdy and raises up easily (and stays in place), as long as the cannon are either lifted or rotated out of the way. The only "gripe" I have is that, due to the way that the "glass" seats in a recess on the vehicle body, there's a lot of resistance when you try to lock the "glass" into the vehicle body. If the cockpit plastic locking piece (a small tab on the front of the "glass" wears out (or heaven forbid) breaks, the cockpit "glass" will stay in an up position, similar to (but not quite as drastic as) what you see on the package's reverse. For a showpiece, that seems understandable, after all, it looks cool with Rip It standing outside the H.I.S.S. on his stand, with the visor raised a little. For a toy, with a lot of use, I see this as a potential future failure point. Okay, now Rip It. He's really well executed... fully articulating at all joints and cleanly painted, the action figure looks so cool. I forgot just how well G.I. Joe action figures were made, as mine were boxed thirty years ago and stored. As either a show piece or a toy, you can't go wrong here. Rip It will make you happy either way. I just wish he had a pistol or something (or that the Cobra H.I.S.S. had control sticks or something) as Rip It's hands are in a grasping position. A pistol would've completed the look.

I looked at the vehicle from a show piece perspective and was thoroughly impressed (with the understanding that it's a "toy" show piece meant to look like and act like a toy... a nostalgia piece. I give it a solid five-star rating there. My son looked at it from a toy perspective. He said that he loves the Cobra H.I.S.S. and thinks it's an awesome toy (that he knows he needs to care for). He started a battle scene on his bedroom floor as soon as we finished assembly. He said that he wishes the vehicle came with another action figure, as, if this was your only G.I. Joe toy, you can't have Rip It in the cockpit and no gunner going into battle. I thought that was a pretty fair point. He also said that he wishes the cockpit's "glass" lowered and locked in easier (another fair point). I asked him for his rating out of five stars... a solid four. So, overall... that's the rating I'm giving, a solid four star. I really think, whether purchasing as a show piece to relive your battles of young, or buying as a toy for your future G.I. Joe enthusiast, you can't go wrong with this purchase. Yo, Joe!

A Decent Retro Action Figure and Vehicle

The toy came in on the scheduled delivery date, however it arrived broken.  The left leg of the action figure included was severed.  Quite disappointed to see the look on my son's face as he noticed his broken toy.
