nice unit

I installed it in a wall. It was fairly easy. It works great in my enclosed patio. Cools and heats very well. I've had the chance to use both in this Texas fall. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Supplemental heating option does not work...

I purchased this unit in May 2012. I used it to cool my apartment for almost four months. I started using the unit's supplemental heating feature in September 2012. At that time, I noticed that whenever the temperatures outside plunged BELOW 45 degrees Fahrenheit, a BURNING SMELL would come from the unit while operating in the supplemental heat mode... and when that happens, the unit provides little to no heat whatsoever! The unit indicates that its supplemental heating feature provides you with an aditional heat source "when needed." But what it SHOULD indicate is that its supplemental heating feature provides you with an aditional heat source "only when the outside temperatures are above 45 degrees Fahrenheit." When I brought this issue to the attention of the manufacturer of this unit (Electrolux Major Appliances), the manufacturer completely disregarded the issue! I had to contact a DIFFERENT air conditioner manufacturer (Friedrich Air Conditioning Co., Ltd.) in order to find out the TRUTH about HEAT PUMP air conditioner/heater units! This unit is a HEAT PUMP heating unit, rather than a STRAIGHT ELECTRIC heating unit. STRAIGHT ELECTRIC heating units can operate efficiently EVEN WHEN OUTSIDE TEMPERATURES ARE BELOW 45 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. This unit is NOT a STRAIGHT ELECTRIC heating unit, but is instead a HEAT PUMP heating unit, which means that the outside temperatures must be 45 degrees Fahrenheit OR HIGHER in order for this unit to operate. According to Friedrich Air Conditioning Co., Ltd., attempting to use HEAT PUMP heating units when outside temperatures are below 45 degrees Fahrenheit will OVERWORK THE COMPRESSOR and can cause a BURNING SMELL to come from the unit while operating... essentially shortening the lifespan of the unit. So if you are looking for a unit that can provide supplemental heating IN MORE EXTREME COLD TEMPERATURES, then this is NOT the appropriate unit for you!

Disappointing Heat Pump Performance

We closed in part of our carport to make a sunroom. Used energy efficient windows and insulation. Decided to pay more and purchase a heat pump/air conditioner combo wall unit rather than purchase an air conditioner and a freestanding infrared heater. The air conditioner part of the unit worked fairly well during the summer and as long as the temperature was chilly and not cold the heater worked ok. When the weather turned cold the unit wouldn't warm up the room. This is not a large room...around 11 by 17. We paid around $500 for this unit. We had to go ahead and purchase the infrared heating unit we were initially going to purchase and it does a much better job than the combo unit we purchased. We could have purchased an air conditioner unit larger than the 8,000 BTU on this combo AND the infrared heating unit for a little over half of the price of this unit. Now we have a heat/air combo that is basically an expensive 8,000 BTU air conditioner. Not a good purchase for us.
Great product for being an a/c and heating unit and small enough for a 110v plug. An ideal unit for a small room. I would definetly recommend to anyone.

This will work for me all year round

I needed this for my shop, A heater for the winter and a air conditioner for those hot summers. For the money I thing I got a good deal, and you can't beat the free shipping. Thanks

Easy to install

I was able to slide this unit into the previous sleeve! It works well and the remote control is a nice feature. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
We needed an air conditioner and heater for our sun/craft room so our supplies didn't get ruined from too low/high temps. This is perfect and it was relatively easy to put in. Great product.

Nice Unit

This unit fits the 12x12 room I put it in very well. I like its many features including the supplemental heat. Would be nice if it could switch between cooling and heating automatically. At this time of year daytime temps are in the 80's and night time in the 50's. I like to keep it at 68 degrees. Yes, it does cool and at times is slow to keep up with the cooling. I wish that when on cooling the fan would shut off when the temperature is reached and periodically check with fan - it keeps going and going even when the temp in the room has lowered to 60 degrees, and so I have to manually change it to heating mode, then in the morning manually change it back to cooling. So far, a few weeks of operation, I haven't seen any water draining anywhere. In fact I have a humidifier in the room to keep it at 50% and still no drainage - not sure why. Nice

It cools good but I just don't understand the heat on it cause it doesn't get that warm and it has been running on heat tonight has not kick off one time and I have it set on 70 if anyone knows anything about it and if it will make my light bill high please let me know
James1988, thank you for sharing your review. The supplement heating feature of your air conditioner is not intended as a primary source of heat. During the heat mode, your fan will run continuously while heat is needed. The temperature will automatically be maintained anywhere between 55 degrees Fahrenheit and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. We do hope that the information provided is beneficial. -Jennifer
