Get's you moving!
I received my Fitbit Alta HR and immediately set it up. I have been using the Fitbit Flex and this was a definite step up. It was very easy to install if you just install the Fitbit app. It pretty much just walks you through the setup. I really like that this Fitbit gives you your heart rate. I also like that it has a reminder for you if you sit too long it will tell you "Let's take a stroll" or another reminder. I have to pay attention when I charge it as it was a little tricky lining up the charger with the holes on the back of the unit. Just make sure you see the battery charging on the face of the unit. If you tap it once it tells you the time and the date so it is a watch also and an alarm clock. If you tap it again you will next see the number of steps, third is your heart rate, then distance, calories burned and finally minutes active. This tracker also tracks your sleep. The best part is this tracker doesn't have to have a dongle to sync it as it is wireless. Another one of my favorite things is on your dashboard (that's what they call the site you go to for accumulation of steps, resting hear rate, etc) , you can engage in competitions with other users. This really gets me going as I like a friendly competition. Overall, I would highly recommend the Fitbit Alta HR to help you keep fit.

Technology and warranty struggles
The tracking unit was replaced within first few months because it would not charge. Fitbit customer care made me jump through hoops. Then the old band had a loose connection to the tracking unit (of course they did not send a new band with new tracking unit). It falls off the wrist and I tried to get a replacement band but only if I will pay more. Not willing to invest more in a device this challenging to use.

Love it goning to keep using it-

First off, replace the band if you have silicone allergies or sensitive skin. There are leather and fabric options out there. To set some context for my review, I've never worn a fitness device outside of carrying my iPhone before trying this device. I'm also reasonably technical, and evaluate products based on my ability to pick them up and figure it out without reading instructions.

Initially, I was concerned, after unboxing I had to consult directions to figure out step 1. After determining that step one was downloading the Fitbit iPhone app… I never looked back. The rest of the setup process was 100% guided by the app, and I was able to connect to the website, and connect a MyFitnessPal app to my Fitbit account as well.

What I liked:

The device is slim, and fits comfortably on my wrist. (Although, it seemed a bit big for my petite wife). I've not worn anything on my wrist for 20 years, and barring some minor challenges with my long sleeve tight cuffs, have been comfortable, and unobtrusive.

The information I'm collecting I find fascinating to track. I love the sleep analysis information, and obviously the activity and heart rate information/baseline is great to keep track of.

You can connect to phone and alert you when receiving a text on your phone. I've found this actually helps avoid missing texts when my phone was not in its usual place. (This works only if the phone is in reasonable proximity).

What you want to be aware of:

The display, although limited has basic functionality and when you raise your arm comes on with the time and heart rate. I've had some challenges tapping to get the display to respond to scroll through information it can show. This may be something I'm doing wrong, and I find I rarely ever attempt to look at the screen (never worn a watch), so for me this is not a big deal.

When working out, Fitbit recommends a wearing in a slightly different position on your arm… it made a difference in accuracy when I followed their guide.

I was disappointed it did not track floors climbed (although my phone does).

Overall, the information I track daily has started to get me more conscious of my activity, sleep, and heart behavior and trying to exercise more. Keeping this one to see how long I can keep it going.

Great Product and Would Make a Great Gift!

I received my Fitbit Alta HR Heart Rate Wristband - Small, free, as a Walmart Spark Reviewer. This Fitbit would make a great gift for the Holidays for young or older. It is extremely easy to use. When I received mine there was no battery life so I plugged in to my iPhone plug. As soon as I did, I read www.fitbit.com (on the Fitbit screen), so I waited roughly five minutes and decided I would log into the website to see what I could figure out. I was actually sitting in my living room and checked out the Fitbit website while on my iPad. It was so easy. It asked if I wanted to download the app, I said yes, the app downloaded-I went to it and it said let's get started, so I was answering questions it asked, then at some point the screen flashed “searching.” I couldn't figure out what it was searching for (my Fitbit was charging in my kitchen) so I thought okay, I went in the kitchen took my Fitbit into the living room with me and the app found it and completed its download. The Fitbit measures your heart rate, really has a very long battery life. I haven't recharged since I have had this and first completely charged. This measures your exercise and automatically tracks your sleep as well. You can also sinc wirelessly and use your Fitbit to receive call and text notifications. Your Fitbit also shows the time and date on it. The cord has a clip that attaches to the three little dots on the back of the monitor and the other side plugs into your iPhone or Android plug to charge and takes roughly five to ten minutes to charge completely. Great product for any age group. The wristband is even interchangeable, if you decide you like another wristband better, you can take the wristband this Fitbit comes with and change with one of your choice.

Fitbit Alta HR

I have been toying with the idea of purchasing one of these fitbits for a very long time but was skeptical because I had so many friends give me mixed reviews on them. So, needless to say I was happy to be able to get the fitbit and find out for myself whether this would be something I would like or not. I actually fell in love with this fit bit after the first day I wore it. It tracks everything steps calories burned miles and especially that my resting heart rate which as I'm getting a little older I like to keep track of. This fitbit also tracks my sleep which i found very useful and interesting. You have to download the app and charge the device first. The app is very easy to use and the fitbit keeps a charge for a week! Overall i am very pleased with the fitbit and i wear it every day. I love knowing my overall cardio health and having options to increase my health with step reminders and workouts. I love it.

this makes my heart beat

I have previously had a fit bit flex which I liked very much, but all the extras that this fitbit Alta HR Heart Rate has so out does the flex, of course you have some of the same features as exercise steps, sleep time, calories burned, food and water intake if you wanted to add. The Alta HR has the time along with heart rate. I no longer have to wear my watch, so that leaves and arm open for other jewelry that I was unable to wear, so that is a great big plus to me. The heart rate feature has different zones.this shows you if your rate is up enough to be burning fat or cardio rate and a peak rate zone. You can choose a goal of how many steps you want to get a day and there is a bar on the step amount and it will show you how close you are. You get a little buzz reminder 10 minutes before the hour if you have not gotten in your 250 steps for that hour. You can have a reminder when it is time for bed. And to get up, up to 8 reminders a day. This is really the exciting part, you get calendar notifications, text and calls when on blue tooth is on to your phone. This come with the Fit bit and charger. And you can buy extra colors of bands to go with whatever you are wearing. So as you can see I highly recommend this product.
