This was a gift for my daughter when she was 6 months old (now 4 years old). She loved this toy and actually cried when we had to put it away to make room for new toys. My 2 year old son also enjoyed this and they played together with this for long periods of time. We now have a 4 month old and we are ready to take it back out. It is great quality and has held up great through two kids and ready for the third. I have also purchased this item as a gift for my friend's kids. This is a must have!
A "Must-Have" Toy
This is definitely a "must-have" toy for parents. The Fisher-Price® Laugh & Learn® Smart Stages™ Home is an absolute hit with children of all ages and learning levels. The best part? You can select the stage appropriate to your child and have the capability to change the learning content as your child grows! The Smart Stages™ Home has a seemingly unlimited repertoire when it comes to fun and educational content. There are various phrases, songs, and interactive activities that change depending on the set level of play. The first level, for example, you hear simple words such as, "open", "close", "hello", "goodbye". The youngest children in our group loved to open and crawl through the doorway. Otherwise, they seemed content to simply listen to the various noises the House would make, dance along to the songs and colorful lights, and really enjoyed playing peek-a-boo through the Puppy window. The lights and sounds captivated their attention and sparked their curiosity to explore different parts of the House, curious to see what would happen after each little switch or button. Updating the learning level of the toy introduced fresh content involving numbers, letters, and making simple requests that allowed the children to engage more with the toy. The attached shape sorter helped in developing problem solving skills and the smaller kids would watch the older children use the different shapes to find which ones were the correct fit and would then attempt to mimic the others. In this way, the House encouraged all of the children to play cooperatively, despite the increase in the learning content. The kids especially loved using their imaginations. They would use the toy to play pretend "House": ringing the doorbell and allowing one another in and out, turning the lights on and off, assigning various jobs for each other ("mom","dad","mailman","baby"), and checking the mailbox for letters. It was very refreshing to see that all of the children were able to play with AND enjoy the toy as a group. A toy that everyone can play with together ...isn't that something?? Can't exactly put a price tag on that! However, Fisher-Price puts it at around $90.00. You would think this quite a hefty sum, until you tally up the cost you are saving buying new toys as your children grow and develop, the space you are saving in your home by, essentially, having 3 toys in 1, and the time you are no longer wasting trying to donate or, get rid of the older toys your child has outgrown. That $90.00 is starting to look pretty worth it, right? My main issue with the toy was that it was a bit difficult to assemble (It ended up being a team effort to complete it successfully). There were a lot of screws involved and while I'm sure this is to ensure the toy's stability, I wish they would find a simpler way. My only other problem was that some of the parts didn't appear to work or, close properly. One of these was the mailbox not closing completely and securely. At first, I thought perhaps I had gotten a defective toy or, that I had made an assembly mistake, but others have also listed this as a defect with their Smart Stages™ Home and this poses a problem when the children are playing with a different part of the toy because the interactive material will become interrupted when the mailbox falls open and triggers one of the songs to begin playing. Overall, it is a great toy with a few minor quirks. It contains quite a plentiful variety of songs, tunes and phrases (well, at least enough so that you won't be driven insane and the children won't become bored with the material too quickly) and offers lots of interactive activities to keep the entertainment going for hours and I highly recommend it! Disclosure: Vocalpoint provided me with two free Fisher-Price® toys in exchange for an honest review. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Lots of fun
I purchased the older version of the Fisher Price Learning Home and really loved it. I feel like the newer version is also great for babies and toddlers.
Pros: The Fisher Price Learning Stages are great. I love that! I have a 9 month old and a four year and this keeps their attention. My four year is more into the role play aspects like delivering/checking the mail and my baby loves the sounds.
Cons: I wish there would have been more updates on the product and a few more things for kids to do. For example, the picture frame doesn't do anything.
Overall: I would recommend this product. I think it has plenty to do for small children.
Fun for different ages
Both my 3 1/2 year old and 2 year old play with this toy a lot .it holds there attention and they always seem to find a new way to play with it .I do think it's better for the younger ones, also the mail box does not stay shut and the little window does not stay open ,also might be because I have to boys that play hard. Traditional has it's benefits
Deciding to upgrade to the new house seemed smart at the time with my first child turning 3 and my youngest approaching their 1st birthday. Pros: I like the 1-3 stages to select from; the storage cupboard for the mail and shapes and imaginary play for my oldest. The compact style of the new house is also nice. Cons: I preferred the clock that allowed both hands to move; the rolling numbers were more educational for an older child than the now 123. Even though I have complained to myself multiple times about the drop balls being missed placed for the rainspout, I now miss them. It would have been nice to keep that feature and have the new house be able to have the cupboard fit all loose components. I purchased the new smart home with the intention to donate the old house to my oldest child's daycare center. Now I am not sure if I should buy another original house and return the smart one. Hopefully, this is helpful to another parent questioning the benefits of upgrading. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I bought this for my grand-daughter. After one day the switch to turn it on and off is broken. It doesn't click to turn on. It just slides over and wont turn on. Worked for one day. Going to contact Fisher Price on Monday. Extremely disappointed. My grand-daughter loved it when it was working.
Was So Excxited... POOR Quality
I bought the FP Laugh & Learn Smart Stages Home for my child's first birthday back in October, he played with it right away. About 2 months later, the voice feature started malfunctioning as in the window sounds were replaced by the door sounds and so on. We haven't even had this toy for a year yet and now the sounds do not even work at all anymore despite new batteries. It's just broken. The way it's made is just poor quality as well, the window won't stay in the up position when we open it, it just slides right down. The mailbox is incredibly sensitive and if you open the door the mailbox will open. You shut the window, the mailbox will shut. My son gets quite frusterated with this toy now, the fact it doesn't make any sounds and it doesn't work as it should at all anymore just is so disappointing to him. He used to love it. The fact I saved up so long in order to buy this for him for his first birthday really bothers me, as it was a lot of money to us.
I was so excited to purchase this toy for my nine month. Santa brought it. Only to put together and the computer was broke! Can't push the buttons and change the age. The buttons don't even push in. And the power buttons are broke I'm very upset and disappointed. That is the main feature, the smart stages . And no one is there at the one eight hundred number because of the holiday. What happened to inspections? Very irritated. I'm site i can go exchange it. But come on. I Just put this whole thing together for it not to work and be broke!
